I haven't tested in ScummVM recently, but on its own, it's actually a decent game.

Imho, I would say it's more than decent, a 7/10 good. And for a free game, that's crazy good! Although I remember watching older GrimBeard videos, and he reviewed Alpha Polaris, and it used to cost money so... Kinda feel bad for the Devs who made it free, but still didn't get too much visibility.

I'm reading thru the scummvm wiki but still can't get how to get
Dragonsphere and Phantom of Opera running using the new build.

EDIT: Ah OK, just rename each 'game.gog' file and make it 'game.iso' then mount it using a software and just move the needed files so that scummvm can recognize them.

Why is it called "Never-slop"?

Probably insinuating it's coded 100% by hand and not vibe coded

No, they have an AI policy that does allow it: https://github.com/scummvm/scummvm/blob/master/AI-GUIDELINES.md

Makes more sense, for a free project not relying on AI to make the job faster is just an inefficient use of their time.

People donate time to volunteer projects; LLM tools cost money. Human code writing is only an inefficient use of their time if they could pay for LLM subscriptions with time instead of money.

Time is money so you can pay with time.

try that at the McDonald's drive thru window

Actually, MacDonalds is the perfect example where a person can get a job with minimal requirements and transform their time in money.

you should tell the ScummVM contributors about this

For reverse engineering, AI is a godsend. A lot of this simply wouldn't be possible without AI.

It’s 25 years old and you’re saying a lot wouldn’t be possible without a 2-3 year old technology?

But extremely problematic if you depend on clean-room RE.

There are no clean-room RE implementations in ScummVM. On top of that, it is really hard to do truly clean-room RE. If you look at the assembly, at least once, it's over. Nobody bothers with that anymore, except you are multi-billon company and you want to have an absolutely clean reimplementation to avoid legal issues.

I thought AI code was "clean-room" by nature because it can only use the compiled code as a basis.

Harvester! Man I've been waiting for that one.
