Fester Mudd: Curse of the Gold was one of my favorites (if not the best) Monkey-likes and I'm so sad it will never get finished.

The humor and writing on this game is top top top tier. Give it a try if you like Monkey Island, which you probably do since you're on this sub.

I worked for Replay Games when this got released, I was one of it's beta-testers, for both versions (the one you saw and the one you didn't.) The entire game was a passion project developed by Paavo Härkönen. Replay Games agreed to release it, but insisted on having Josh Mandel do a rewrite pass over the entire game. I guess the thought was that attaching Josh Mandel's name would help the game have a bigger impact.

No shade on Josh, that dude is awesome, but I also felt kinda icky that they took the game this one guy made, and had another guy completely rewrite most of it. And then replay games folded due to scandal. I don't know if the company still owns the rights to it even though the company basically doesn't exist anymore...or if Paavo was so disenchanted with the whole process that he gave up.

But it's a shame, because it was a fun adventure game, and only the second time I've seen that genre in a western setting (The other one being Freddy Pharkas: Frontier Pharmacist heavily written by Josh Mandel).

well, it really sucks for the main dev but the end result was great. I could understand what happened tho.

I'd completely forgotten about this game. I loved it and it ruined my weekend discovering it wouldn't get an end.

They should have just released the game without the "Episode I" label to be honest

I wonder who owns rights to this or whatever the deal is. We should demand a new episode finishing the story.
