They literally monetized what aaron wanted everybody to access for free. seems not to be a crime if you charge money for it. If you look at the scene more closely you will find similar storys to that of aaron (event though aaron was clearly an absolute exception) were you see people going to prison, theiir lives beiing destroyed and out of it spawns another tech billionair with a "brilliant idea" and sells it

Allegedly took his own life.

Right... you never know anymore right? I believe he did more than likely. Epstein is another story. I believe he was so sensitive and made to be so afraid such that he felt like there was no way out. There is always a way. YOUR LIFE IS ALWAYS WORTH LIVING. YOUR LIFE IS ALWAYS WORTH LIVING. STAY WITH US. WE NEED YOU. - Dan Reynolds

I’m actually pretty sure. Do a dive into who his girlfriend really was. I’d post a source but I honestly don’t remember where I heard about her but it was only a few months ago. She basically wormed her way into his life and tried to control him. That didn’t work, so…yeah.

Hmmmmm. I remember her. She seemed pissed and crushed by his death. But, today is a good enough day to check that out... interesting!

Youtuber Stephanie Harlowe recently did an amazing two part-er on Aaron and the dichotomy between how he was treated compared to ol Epstein (who was hanging around Harvard MIT at the same time as Aaron).
She speaks of him very respectfully and highly and rips the feds & Harvard MIT a new one. Highly recommend if you’re into long-format videos. I learned quite a bit.
Edit: Mixed up my prestigious tech schools.

RIP Aaron. You stood for everything I believed the internet should be growing up, were one of my inspirations to learn programming. Even in our current recessive, plagiaristic wring-and-squeeze state that tech is in, you remain a beacon in my mind that doing good is always a choice.

And 14 years later most of Reddit's userbase don't even know who Aaron is.
