Woke up early on our last full day in the park. Chris and I walked the Narrows for 2 miles out and back. Wow, what a workout! Definitely worth it though. That was a one of a kind experience and I'm glad I did it.

It reopened today for the first time since the big storm. Super fun hike and great payoff at the end. but LONG with lots of scrambling! The river was gorgeous with the mountains in the background and you can even see dinosaur footprints (apparently from the dilphosaurus, a 20’ tall 700-lb carnivore 😬)

Question What is this? Red Canyon

I was hiking in red Canyon a week or so ago and I noticed something dark on the tall left most ledge. You can see it about halfway up between the tree and the top of the rock structure. I zoomed in as best I could with my camera and you can see a picture on the second page. The park Ranger was very confused also.

Question Does anyone recommend a private trail tour, or amateur photographer in the area?

I’m looking to do a surprise proposal at Zion and want pictures of the event, but every private proposal photoshoot is the better part of $1000, if not more. I totally understand the pricing and expertise and don’t fault them, but I also only need pictures rather than an expert photoshoot.

So, does anyone know of any amateur photographers or trail tour guides who could surreptitiously be on the trail or lead us to be present to take a picture of the moment?

Kolob Cell Reception?

We are leaving the main park tomorrow morning and considering Kolob before leaving the area completely. My husband has a work call scheduled last minute. Is there good cell reception near the visitors center at Kolob?

End of November trip

I’m planning my first solo trip flying into LAS and then heading to Utah (Kanab) to stay for 4 nights.

Will I have ample time to hike in Zion and Bryce Canyon?

Heading to Zion Sunday with my two month pregnant girl friend. She’s pretty fatigued. I’m looking for some recommendations for some easy hikes. Some hikes with views, and maybe some stargazing places. We haven’t planned well but life has been lifing us! Any suggestions are appreciated thank you

Zion and Other Utah National Parks in February

I am planning a national park trip in mid February and one of the options I was eyeing up was hitting up one or two (or three?) of the Utah national parks. I will have 5 full days and want to be able to spend ample time that each park deserves and was wondering what would be the best way to do this. I think I would definitely hit up Zion, but unsure if I should add on another park while I'm out there and if so which one?

Any suggestions are welcome!

There was more rain in the forecast today. We knew, but wanted to shoot our shot with our Angels Landing permit while we had one. Wow, out of breath the whole time, but amazing views. Checked it off the bucket list. It rained when we got to the top and half way down and then the sun came out again.

Will we be able to access the Zion Shuttle system coming in from the east entrance to the park today, 10/15? If not, are we able to access the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel and Checkerboard Mesa coming from Springdale?

Any recent Condor tips?

I spent a lot of time on my last camping trip this spring searching for condors in Grand Canyon and Navajo Bridge area, but alas no luck. I’ll be spending the next week camping and day hiking in the Zion area and it would bring me to tears to catch a sight of one in my binoculars. I’ll be a few days exploring the Kolob area, then the red cliffs area near Leeds, then staying a few days at Watchman. Looks like there may be a decent amount of rain when I’m in Watchman, does that affect condor activity? I’ll be checking eBird too…

Hiking narrows today!

Two quick questions I can’t make it until around 1 pm is that still plenty of time to do some of the narrows?

Also would you rent warm weather or dry bib package?

We knew there was rain in the forecast this morning, but wanted to get out and hike what we could. We went to the lower emerald pools train then decided to go to the upper emerald pools trail and then took the grotto trail down. We were soaked, but it was worth it!

Angels Landing this morning (10/12)

Hit the chains around 10:45am. It was raining in the morning and started raining after we left, but we got lucky with a pretty clear window, just a bit of drizzle. Wet sand on the rocks made it a little more slick than usual but still felt safe. The views were even more beautiful than usual and fewer people too!

First timer

Visiting Zion for the first time this Friday and Saturday. Had plans to do The Narrows Saturday morning. But in the case that it’s still closed, what else do you recommend as a must-do trail? :)

Question Taking my kids through the Narrows and I'm worried about bathroom problems.

My wife and I are taking our 4 kids (13g 10b 9b 5b) on the Narrows this weekend. I think the older 3 would be able to handle it and I'll obviously have everyone use the restroom before we go, but what the heck is the plan for when/if one of them has to poop while hiking? Bring doggy bags and pick it up?

My wife and I have done the hike before so I know there's not exactly room to go or any privacy and leaving it there is not really an option.
