Just a Post Just recently bought Xenosaga episode 1 and 2
My local game store had these on the shelves for $106. I decided that "sure why not?" And bought them.
They have episode 3 as well but it's over $300 so that's very unlikely to own.

Was ep 3 really that low in print? Happy that I still have my copy CIB from release day. Best of luck, and here's to a remaster someday.

Yes because 2 did THAT bad. I was there to see it also be sandwiched with Tales of the Abyss and Final Fantasy XII as well.

1 & 2 are still pretty reasonably priced. 3 is ridiculous. But it feels really good to play 3 after never really feeling powerful in 2.

1 was $38 and 2 was $58 so it was a decent deal

I'm pretty sure I paid $60 at launch when it came out wouldn't pay more than that

PS2 games were $50 in US back then.

Most PS2 games retailed at $50, but some were cheaper. the greatest hits version of XS1 was $20.

2 was bad compared to the others. If they can redo all of the trilogy using 3 as a base

eh, 3 had a pretty generic JRPG combat system, and while it was miles better than 2s, I still prefer the battle system 1 used best.

If you have the ps2 with the HD bay I recommend buying one of those and filling it up with games, the jailbreak is super easy I think I paid $8(US) and that's how I was able to play episode 3 on OG hardware. I would love to have 3 on the shelf but I'm just like you I bought 1 and 2 and said heck no to 3's price.

Or usb with slim, that 40gb hard drive was ass I had the official one back in the day.

You're better off using mmce with psxmemgen 2 than that shitty USB port. HDD>MMCE>USB

I mean it’s a ps2 it’s all kinda garbage at this point. I just remember the OG 40gb HDD really wasn’t worth shit, especially without jailbreak it was honestly criminal.

I don't really agree with that. Even mmce is more than fast enough for the overwhelming majority of ps2 games as long as you configure freemcboot correctly. The USB port is simply too slow. For HDD, you need a sata adapter for modern hard drives and it runs pretty smooth

I mean, sadly the fastest way to get data to a PS2 is with a hardware mod that adds a micro SD card slot through the goddamn Memory card throughput.
Yes, the PS2 memory card slots are faster than the HDD and the USB 1.0 ports.1

You are describing mmce. That is the mod I am using. HDD is actually faster tho, given you are using the proper hdd spec. I use mmce because it is more convenient

it's now possible to swap out the hard drive connector for a more modern SATA one, which makes it possible to use an SSD instead.

Oh that’s cool. Either way it’s a ps2 doesn’t make much difference lol in long run.

I also have 1 and 2 on disc but I just decided to emulate 3. It’s way too expensive.

I do think that if you're purchasing a physical copy of Xenosaga in the year of our Lord 2026, it's probably to own the physical copy and not necessarily to play them.

u/MithrandirHabibi 18d ago
lol I’m playing 2 on my ps2 right now
1
u/improbablesky 18d ago
It doesn't mean you won't play them, it's just that you don't need to own them to play them, so like, you're gonna go buy them if you want to own them

Good Luck in 3 cause I had to pay $350 via a half a year payment plan for that one. worth it.
