Might have messed up my first xcom enemy unknown playthrough
Ive put like 16hrs into my first xcom playthrough and i was avoiding capturing aliens. I was confused why I wasnt unlocking plasma guns and did many missions without them until I captured some juggernaut guys. Now realizing i needed to capture an outsider to continue the story wondering if I've soft locked myself by not capturing an outsider sooo long.

You can actually post pone capturing important to story aliens indefinitely, and arguably it's better if you want an easier time, but you definitely should've captured "optional" aliens sooner. Because while you can post pone the story progression, eventually alien forces WILL get tougher, and you'll see Sectopods screw yo ass. Also if you have Enemy Within DLC installed... Prepare some plasma weaponry and late game armour before storming alien base, trust me, you don't want to get a surprise unprepared ๐

Yeah I just got my first sectopod now (this is my first playthrough of EW ever). Was wondering why the other enemy types seemed to have taken a step down then that thing showed up

You should still be okay, it's been a while but if I remember correctly an outsider will still spawn in ufo landings/crashes for you to try and capture. I could be wrong though

You're gonna mess up a bunch more of em before you win.
That's XCOM baby!

Im hoping to scrape a win together but based off these comments I shouldn't be surprised or upset if I end up losing.

You control the pace yourself on that particular issue. Take all the time you want.

Not sure about what the other user was saying, but Outsiders will keep showing on all UFOs missions (and only there) until you do the Alien Base Assault.

Gotcha I prob ended up just stretching the game out by not capturing one.

Eh- it's XCom, baby.
It's like chess with big guns against aliens. Which isn't like chess at all when I think about it.
It's honestly a game that's just worth playing to figure out on your own and just have fun with it, because if you spend too much time trying to figure out all of the whatsits and howsits and all that you'll find yourself optimizing the fun out of the game.

The best part about Xcom is youre not actually meant to win your first ever playthrough. The game is meant to be played over and over and you learn from the losses. So dont feel bad if its going very poorly. No one is expected to win their first run through the game.

Thats fair it is suppost to be a world wide seige on earth from aliens. Not suppost to be easy

You can post pone capturing the Outsider. But you better start catching the other aliens if you donโt want to get caught with your pants down.
