Discussion Insider program enrolment and 26h2 build somehow installed through windows update on my unsupported pc.

Hi all, ages ago I did the necessaries to clean install 24h2 using rufus and skipping the checks etc, and a few days ago an update failed due to my computer not being supported, so imagine my surprise this evening when not only did it allow me to enroll into the insider program, it also downloaded and installed it through the official windows update channels and it runs perfectly.

How is this even possible?

Different Insider channels have varying hardware requirements. It is possible to easily get the Dev/Experimental channel builds on unsupported hardware like yours while not being able to natively get the production release versions.

The 2 old unsupported computers I updated are just on the Beta channel.

I did that last month on 2 computers that aren't supported, 1 that is at least 15 years old and the other is at least 10 years old. Both are totally up to date now with all the new features.

15 years old means you are using windows 11 on cpus from 2011, 12

Of course it's usable. Runs wayyyyy better with Windows 11 than it did with Windows 10 and Windows 7 before that. No reason why it shouldn't.

I’ve got an old core2quad q8300 that I threw together out of spare lga775 parts and with an ssd and the maximum 8gb ram that the motherboard can handle it runs 11 surprisingly well.
