Remember when this was considered scandalous?

The last 10 years have been thoroughly exhausting.

I get you, but I've found a new freedom in stopping myself from trying to correct or be offended by shitty people. Instead of constantly being amazed or aghast at people being awful, I just casually mark them as a waste time and effort and move on with my day.

Where before, I would try to do something like understand where they're coming from. Like, maybe they are just ignorant and don't know better. Maybe they are part of a culture where that word or action isn't nearly as offensive to them as it is to me. Maybe they've got some trauma of their own, and while inappropriate, this is how they cope, and all sorts of other -- yes -- exhausting things, now I just don't bother. Say racist shit around me? You're a racist. Say bigoted shit around me? You're a bigot. I don't care why anymore.

As a matter of course? That actually makes a lot of sense.

If that person is the President of the United States? I'm not sure that's a great idea.
