Trump didn’t hijack the Republican Party - they willingly and eagerly handed over the keys.

They’re trying to plant the seeds for the “Post-Trump” GOP, in which they were apparently all forced against their will to support him.

He's the epitome of the Republican Party. He's everything they ever dreamed it could be. Selfish, only caring for himself, and unaccountable to anyone.

If this guy is just figuring this out TEN YEARS LATER then he has bigger problems. Because Trump has been a festering boil on the face of the GOP since term one.

Maybe one step at a time

Eh, Im willing to forgive those who realize they've been duped, especially if they only voted for him twice.

Its those who dislike trump but will continue to vote republican i strongly dislike.

But daily reminder that this is what the repuvlican party has always been and always will be

I have a lot of hope given how ugly, stupid and poisonous Trump is, but let's all get out there and vote / help to make sure we don't get Musked this time.

Sadly, there isn't more of that. Republicans, as a party, doubled down on extremist MAGA candidates in their primaries. In SC, you have Graham who was literally handed the job because he brother died and then won the primary because she told everyone she was basically Trump's lapdog. You have Paxton in Texas who unseated an incumbent whose only "crime" was opposing Trump on one issue. Hell, in a Michigan House seat, you had the Republican who was endorsed by Trump lose to a guy who dropped out of the race all because the guy Trump endorsed was a black man with a Muslim sounding name.

The sad truth is, the Republican party IS MAGA now. There is no saving it, you HAVE to oppose it in the short term by voting Democrat. Afterwards, you can take the party behind the shed, Old Yeller it, and then replace it with a new Republican party later on.

Elections are won with independents. Look at the numbers. Be happy to vote!

The Republican party has been this for a long time. They're just saying it out loud now.

I mean, cool I guess, assuming he really votes for Talarico, but I'm calling bullshit on people suddenly "aware" that Trump hijacked the GOP in 2026.

Y'all rolled over and licked his boots in 2016. You voted for the racism and are now just mad about gas prices.

I can’t stress enough how devastating losing Texas would be to the GOP.

It needs to happen, the Republican Party needs a full reset, and I think Texas is the key. And one diaper filler going away forever of course

As my
Old
Man says “ I didn’t leave the Republican Party, it left me”…

Imagine if Talarico was a Republican. They would not care if he was a vegan pansexual who took a week off to get shock therapy, if he could get votes

ill believe it when I see it, unfortunately. too many times its not been true

I don’t know why you’re getting downvoted, of course I want the tide to turn in Texas however I’m not sure we are there yet. I must say I will be very surprised if blue wins in Texas.

He's getting down voted because this sort of doomerism is lame. Wah wah political change is hard and didn't happen instantly the first time I wanted it, so let's all just cry about it.

There were piles of people in Arizona and Georgia doing this same stupid bit right up until the moment that they elected a bunch of Democrats to statewide offices. Colorado had voted Republican in 9 of the last 10 presidential elections before 2008, but now they are a D+10 solid blue state.

Republicans are obviously going to cheat every way they can to stop it, so it's going to be hard, but what kind of loser spends their time going online and trying to convince people that if the Republicans make it hard to vote, it's fine to just give up because nothing was going to happen anyway?

1

u/No-Celebration3097 13h ago

It’s not about giving up, lots of people don’t vote in Texas.

1

u/Forshea 13h ago

A bunch of them don't vote because Republicans close polling places in urban areas until it takes standing in line for 6 hours to vote.

But don't worry, if you convince them that Democrats will never win anyway, maybe you can save more people those 6 hours

reddit must be protecting me lol-can't see how many. But, Im not too concerned with it. I hope every-single-one of these individuals goes out and votes blue though!🥳

Watch CNN and you will indeed get more of that.

Watch Fox and not so much

Watch NewsMax to hear about all the amazing things Trump has done for our country

Trump didn’t hijack the GOP. He just dangled racism, cruelty, xenophobia and greed out in front of Republicans and they salivated and obeyed his every command.

1

u/ResurgentClusterfuck 11h ago

All of this. Talarico wants a better Texas for all Texans, even those who might disagree with some of his politics.

Clearest example of the Republican Party being hijacked is the R's from the 80's and 90's are absolutely rolling in their graves right now that we just helped Russia attack Ukraine.

This year, "Orange Man Bad" is enough for the sort of voters who decide elections. Rick Wilson was correct; 2026 is a red undertow, not a blue wave.
