Additional events may be found in the Regional Calendar or at DurhamRegion.com. Please feel free to highlight any of these in the comments below. Please adhere to the following guidelines:

Oshawa vs Whitby
Hello, my boyfriend and I both 22 are planning to move to Ontario in the spring (April/May) and I am looking for advice on which area we should look at moving to. We are looking for a cat friendly apartment in an area that has decent access to the essentials. We only have one car so public transit is also important. I have tried looking on subreddits but the opinions are so contradictory and feel very biased. I'm wondering what the pros and cons of living in Oshawa vs. Whitby are? Is the crime in Oshawa really as bad as people say? If you can also recommend neighbourhoods to look at/avoid that is appreciated.

Leahy’s antics - time for accountability
I received a flyer with a group of candidate flyers. I’m not impressed with his campaign and the deflection and Trump-style narrative he brings. He presents himself as the taxman but you don’t have to research far to see he has always cost the most of council members for his expenses.
I am tired of the BS that as a resident there is a group that are completely disrespecting residents.

Whitby councillors vote for accountability crackdown on parents of underage e-scooter riders
Only 23% of Whitby voted in 2022. Here's how to vote by mail this year (Election Day is Oct 26)
In the last municipal election, 23,872 of 102,618 eligible electors in Whitby voted, which works out to 23.26%. The Ontario average that year was about 33%. That's a lot of people sitting out decisions about local roads, parks, taxes, and services.
If getting to a polling station is the barrier, Whitby offers a Special Mail-in Ballot. Here's how it works:
1. Apply for a ballot kit using the application form at whitby.ca. Deadlines:
- By mail: Oct 4 (this is basically here, so use one of the next two options)
- By email: Oct 11, to [elections@whitby.ca](mailto:elections@whitby.ca)
- In person: Oct 21, 4:30 p.m., at Town Hall (575 Rossland Rd E)
2. Your kit arrives by mail between Oct 5 and Oct 12.
3. Mark your ballot following the instructions inside.
4. Return it either by mail (prepaid envelope included) by Oct 18, or by dropping it off at Town Hall by Oct 26, 4:30 p.m.
Official info and the application form are at whitby.ca/municipalelections. Please double-check dates there, since I'm summarizing and things can be updated.
If you know someone who's never voted municipally because it's "too much hassle," feel free to share this with them.

Strange flickering in the sky seen in whitby
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
While waiting for my bus I noticed this flickering in the sky that looked like a quick flash of lightning. But then it never stopped! It was flashing like this the whole time I waited for my bus, does anyone know what it is??? Seems too weird to be from an event or something
