Yugoslavia: the role of the "undead" British Empire (~1:14)
I've been doing this research for the last 30 years trying to understand the war in former Yugoslavia. I was in my early 20s, volunteered for military service and participated in that war but before the war erupted 99% of the people probably thought it would never happen. I'm the child of a mixed marriage, my mother is Serbian and my father is Croatian. Many people were like that, mixed up, we didn't really even know who was who because it didn't matter.
But it's like the story of putting 100 red ants and 100 black ants into a jar. Basically nothing happens, but if you shake the jar violently the ants start killing one another. I don't know how better to explain the eruption of war than that somebody shook up our jar and we are the perfect jar to shake up because we have three constituent peoples: Catholic Croatian, Muslim Bosniak and Orthodox Serbian. It's easy to divide people by telling each side that the other guys are coming after you. I'm still not sure what it was all about but I'm absolutely certain that the undead British Empire played the key role in getting that region into a war.
Everybody talks about the American hand but if you scratch beneath the surface you find the pivotal role was played by the British. They're very good at concealing their hand. When the war started the Yugoslavian National Army was completely controlled out of Belgrade and most of the officer corps were Serbian or Montenegrin. The republics that wanted to break loose of the federation just had territorial defense units that were lightly armed. The central government under Slobodan Milosevic got the signal that the West would support them to keep former Yugoslavia together, which meant crushing all these independence movements by force. At the same time the British were insisting on an arms embargo.
We got weapons from Russia, they were willing to sell us the weapons on favorable terms disregarding the Western-imposed embargo. There's this perceived sympathy between Serbia and Russia because they're both Orthodox Slavs. We Croats are Catholic Slavs. But I think the Russian foreign policy people understood this new unified Yugoslavia was going to be London's catspaw in the Balkans, a new political entity under the control of the Anglo-Zionist Empire.
Slobodan Milosevic shouldn't be perceived as this staunch Serbian patriotic nationalist, he was an amoral apparatchik. He was recruited by two brothers, Petar and Ivan Stambolić, the gray eminences of the Yugoslavian Central Bank. He was sent to New York for four years as a representative of one of the largest banks in former Yugoslavia. After he came back he became the leader of Serbian Communist Party and started setting the stage for a takeover to centralize Yugoslavia under the rule of Belgrade.
Bosnia and competing Western interests (~15:06)
To this day there's a tug-of-war between the British and the Americans for control of the Bosnian Federation. It's difficult to see if you just read the headlines but you'll notice it if you pay attention to the news. Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of three constituent peoples, Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks and it's divided into 10 cantons. One of them is the Serbian Republic of Srpska. This is the result of the Dayton Agreement which was a complete mess that basically rigged the place for a future conflict.
It's been widely perceived in Bosnia and Herzegovina that the British run the show and that Sarajevo is crawling with British intelligence assets. By the fall of 2024 a war between Republic of Srpska and the other Bosnian enclaves was seen as inevitable. The federal government of Sarajevo is supposedly Bosnians, Serbs and Croats proportionately represented blah blah blah but it's dominated by a EU-appointed regent who can overrule anything so basically rules by decree. They were consistently harassing and antagonizing the leadership of Republic of Srpska so the Serbs decided to hold a referendum to secede from Bosnia and Herzegovina and join Serbia proper.
This would have ignited war, which was the aim. Papers from the UK's Royal United Services International think tank were saying explicitly that as the war in Ukraine was basically lost the Balkans were certain to become the second front in the West's confrontation against Russia. If the Serbs held their referendum and declared independence, federal forces would have to move in and crush them. They already had a warrant for the arrest of Milorad Dodik. former president of the Republic of Srpska. And just as with Călin Georgescu in Romania, they banned Dodik from running even though he was the most popular leader and would have won any election.
If the war had happened, the Serbs would've been drawn into it to protect the interests of the Serbian people and Croatia would be drawn in to defend the interests of the Croatian people. Croatia is a NATO member, Serbia is not so any conflict between the two could be grounds for Article 5. With NATO involved that could draw Russia in as well.
I was hearing from journalists and analysts on the ground there and from a Croatian politician in Bosnia that everything changed suddenly when Trump came to power. I was at a conference in Istanbul and there was a member of the Republic of Srpska cabinet there so I asked him about it. He said, "It's like night and day, like a different planet, all the war pressures just kind of dissipated all at once." Donald Trump threw his support behind Milorad Dodik and Trump administration officials coordinated with the Kremlin to persuade the Serbs to delay the referendum for a year (which still hasn't happened).
We talk about Trump a lot but there are a lot of competent people in the State Department and the Pentagon. I saw an interview with this Croatian politician talking about meeting with Trump administration officials: "I went to Washington and I thought I'd have to explain to them where Bosnia is on the map and who Croats and Bosnians are and what the hell the whole thing is about. But the people in the State Department knew everything in small detail, they understood the situation perfectly. The people in Bosnia have no doubt who was pushing for the war and no doubt it was the American administration that unrigged the situation."
Banking networks and the American divide
For the last 100 plus years, the British have infiltrated and co-opted the structures of power within the United States. So you have this deep state which is loyal to this imperial cabal, they're like the Praetorian guard of the empire. But the United States emerged as a reaction to the British Empire, the Declaration of Independence was independence from the British Empire. And there are people in the United States who are patriots, who deeply care about their constitution, about the American republic.
I don't know who these people are but they are there in the bowels of the Pentagon, maybe the State Department and occasionally they will formulate policies that are against the interests of the imperial cabal. But it seems to me that with the Trump administration, this expression of resistance to the British Empire has reached a kind of FU moment where they're not even pretending the "special relationship" is something anymore and they're openly defying the British. The most recent example was the diesel deal between the United States and Russia, which the British establishment was absolutely livid about.
Debt, oil and wealth extraction (~38:54)
It's always dressed up as something that's palatable to the public. The latest variant is freedom and democracy but the business plan of the empire is to lend money both to colonized nations and to their own clients who go to that nation to develop the resource.
Take an oil rich nation like Nigeria. You have to develop it, build oil rigs and ports and pipelines and a distribution network. That takes a lot of money, maybe billions of dollars, and to get those loans there has to be collateral. The key is getting political control over a nation, once you have that you can create a contract saying that Nigeria's oil is the collateral and now against that collateral we can lend Royal Dutch Shell a billion dollars to develop Nigerian oil fields. The banks can sell the collateral or give it to another corporation if Royal Dutch Shell is unable to repay the loans for some reason but the bankers basically command this wealth inside Nigeria.
That $1 billion loan to Royal Dutch Shell is a $1 billion asset on the bank's balance sheet and the amount that's repaid will at least double over its lifetime to $2 billion. But with fees and special clauses and such the loan could end up being repaid 10 times over and that's $10 billion dollars of wealth being sucked out of Nigeria.
Royal Dutch Shell doesn't care whether that billion dollar loan comes from a Nigerian bank or a London bank or a Wall Street bank or a Russian bank or a Chinese bank. But these corporations always have a representative from Goldman Sachs or JP Morgan, etc. on the board of directors so the business strategy of the corporation is subservient to the banking interest.
Corporate power and Enrico Mattei (~52:31)
The case of Enrico Mattei in Italy is very instructive. He developed the Italian energy sector, the refining, the pipelines, the ships and he did it on behalf of Italy, of the Italian people. He ran circles around the Seven Sisters. He'd make a deal with the Libyans, Algerians, Egyptians and he would do it on a very equitable basis. He'd say, "You sell us your oil, we build a refinery in your country and you employ people and you refine the oil and then you sell us the refined product, and we take it to Italy." He made a deal with Russia where Italian steel plants produced like 2 million tons of steel pipes to sell to Russia in exchange for Russian crude oil exports to Italy.
So what happened? Enrico Mattei's plane went down when he was flying from Palermo to Milan I think in the early 1960s [1962]. The American embassy in Rome had written many reports about this troublesome Mattei who wouldn't play ball, that his companies were growing more powerful, more prosperous, more profitable and were basically taking control of the Italian market. The same day or the very next day after Mattei was assassinated, the CIA station chief in Rome, Caramasin, filed a 20-something page report about it with his bosses back home and then he vanished, left Italy and never went back again. So there's no doubt about who did it.
Technological control, AI and the future (~57:35)
You can say maybe Alex is right and maybe Alex is wrong but if you take what I've talked about as a framework, I guarantee that the more you pay attention to what's going on, the more coherent the picture becomes. And if you look at the system of incentives within this mechanism and extrapolate it into the future, it gets to the point where all of the rest of humanity actually have to become slaves to this system. When they talk about their fourth industrial revolution and the Great Reset, they actually say that the future entails changing what it means to be human. You have Yuval Noah Harari saying, "This whole business about you being like a divine soul and sovereign being, that's all over. From now on, you're going to be hackable animals." So it's going into a into a really ugly dystopia and if we don't carefully study this human feed lot that we're being forced into, our children and their children might actually be slaves in 15-minute cities eating insects.
Public awareness and the case for optimism (~1:02:45)
I'm sincere when I say that I'm an incurable optimist because I'm not terribly worried about these things. I believe there's an awakening happening all over the world that is unlike anything we've had in the history of humanity. For the first time ever we have these amazing things like social media, like the internet, podcasts, these types of conversations and the powers that be are no longer able to control the narrative by controlling the TV, the newspapers and the radio. We don't know what will happen because we simply don't have any precedent.
So suddenly we've had this urgency in Europe to start a war against Russia and it's very important for them to create the impression that everybody agrees with this. But the reaction has been an explosion of posts online: "I'm from Germany and Russia is not my enemy." "I'm from Spain and Russia is not my enemy." Tens of thousands of posts that say "Russia is not my enemy" that are liked and retweeted by hundreds of thousands of people, maybe millions of people, and it makes you realize we're not alone in not wanting this war. And the people pushing this narrative the most - Merz and Burnham and Macron - are hated by their own populations.
A friend of mine who works for NATO told me that they monitor the public in Europe very carefully. Right after Russia launched its special military operation in February 2022, when you'd expect the outrage against Russia to be at its peak, they found that two-thirds of the people surveyed in Italy, France and Spain sympathized more with Russia than with Ukraine. And a major French polling agency found that 56% of the people thought Russia had legitimate reasons for intervening in Ukraine.
In Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania polls showed about three out of four supported Russia and that's been my experience. I come from Croatia which has what I'd call a mildly Russophobic culture but when I talk with Croatian people, about three out of four say "Putin is the good actor in this drama, Zelensky is the idiot who's going to set the world on fire." Because of this cultural cloud people aren't terribly open about this until they realize which side you stand on, then they open up and tell you everything they think and in three out of four cases they are highly suspicious of Ukraine and they are not afraid of Russia.
ETA:
Bankers' empire
When you go to school and study history, they tell you there was a Spanish Empire and a Belgian Empire and Dutch, Venetian and Ottoman Empire, the concept of empire is always conflated with a nation so it seems that certain nations end up colonizing the world and creating an empire.
But what is really happening is that you have an imperial oligarchy always centered around banking interests who basically co-opt nations that have wealth, military power, political power, diplomatic power and a strong intelligence network to use all those assets to create a global empire of colonies. As far as these networks are concerned, they don't care if the host nation is Holland or Britain or the United States or China so long as they keep control of these key assets so that they can force their foreign policy solutions on other countries, hold them in a subservient position and dictate terms of trade, who's going to fund their development and who they will pay their debts to.
Modern colonialism for the last two centuries has been basically to plunge nations into debt.
