C960 Discrete Mathematics II Passing C960 DM2 was the hardest class!!
I just passed so everything is still fresh but man oh man does it feel good to finally be done! It took me while to pass as I became extremely busy with work and life right around the time that I started this class. Nonetheless, it took me about 45 actual focused hours to get everything I needed to complete this class.
There are two types of difficulties to keep in mind with this this class:
- Medium | Complexity of algorithms you have to remember: This is something everyone infers/mentions but in my opinion is not the most difficult part of this class. Just like everyone else on reddit will say, knowing The Extended Euclidean Algorithm and Fast Exponentiation is required for Chapter 2.
- However, also knowing the following is also import:
- How to make probability distribution chart to find expected value
- Number base conversion
- There are numerous other concepts you have to know but those are simpler and easier to identify:
- Multiplicative inverse
- Congruence identities
- Knowing what the following are when reading a Bayes theorem question:
- X
- F
- p(X|F)
- p(F)
- p(X|NOT F)
- p(NOT F)
And some concepts you only have to go through a couple of times because the formula is on the worksheet that is with the exam:
- Binomial Theorem
- Bayes' Theorem (Again as long as you know what each variable represents)
Hard | Counting Principal's and when to use them: This part of the course in my opinion is the hardest part of the class. There are about 8+different principals and rules and it's hard to identify when to use what principle. Questions can be about coin flips, dice rolls, Drawing cards, selecting student body from a group students, etc. Sometimes you have to deal with conditionals like card being next to each other being of a specific suit, or dice rolls that can't have consecutive numbers in the rolls, etc. To make things worse, part of Chapter 5 uses this for doing probability which makes it even harder as you have to understand what the full total outcome is as the denominator while figuring out the conditional outcome as the numerator.
cool thing about that part of the course is that you can see how boolean logic plays a roll with it comes to OR (+) vs AND (*) as these same concepts that are in DMI are used in combining different counting principles together based on what the question is asking.
I believe finding the right counting principles for the right question is harder than remembering RSA, FE, EEA as those questions are easy to identify what you need to do and as long as you remember the steps you are fine.
The first time I failed its because I accidently skipped learning Chapter 3 because I just assumed it was all about induction. 🤣
I reached out with the same instructor who did the videos in panopto and the zybooks and had a quick live session with him on that chapter. When I took the test again, I didn't get a single question wrong in that chapter. 🤣

Other notes about this class
- Algorithm complexity can be difficult but the questions on the exam (Atleast for me) where the basic ones which made it easier. It was less about tricks and more about the obvious worst case complexity.
- I was afraid of induction because I am not good at factoring. However because of multiple choose questions, they usually do the factoring for you. You just have to identify the induction k+1 step, the step for justification if needed, or the base case step if needed. In other words, they write out the whole equation for you, you just have to be good enough to identify what is what.
- Recurrent relations is pretty easy once you know what they are looking for but there are different scenarios. You may be presented a question where they give you a_0 and a_1 and an expression that allows you to figure out a_x; using that they will want you to find something like a_4. You also may be presented with homogenous recurrent relations which requires some basic factoring.
- The last chapter are freebies. Let me be clear, most of all of chapter 6 about FSM is something you can learn 1 day before the exam and be good. Infact a lot of people don't even study it but its good to know what to do with NFA because DFA is super intuitive to see and understand. NFA maybe slightly confusing but the moment you know what it is, its easy to remember. I say this because if you struggle on any other topics you'll want to knock out these freebies with ease.
Time to enjoy the rest of my night, then knock out the rest of my classes!

Bachelors of Science, Computer Science Anyone use a translator for PAs?
French is my first language, and I feel like I could move through my PAs faster if I wrote my answers in French first and then translated them into English.
The ideas and content would be completely mine — I’d just want to make sure the translation accurately reflects what I wrote.
I know Grammarly is allowed, but has anyone done this with a translator or asked WGU about it?

Finished the MSCS AI/ML Program!
This is my 3rd program at WGU and my 2nd master's degree. The first was 4-years ago and I attribute it to significantly advancing my career. I manage seven engineering teams at a very large tech company and have almost 30-years of experience in software engineering and IT. I found the traditional computer science courses to be quite easy. However, I really enjoyed the AI and ML courses. I have seen some reviews from people that didn't think the AI/ML courses were hard enough or went deep enough and that could be true. But with WGU programs you will get out of them what you put in. I chose to really dig in on these courses and learn everything I could, and often times that mean finding my own content on Udemy and other places. When it came to developing the different models or preparing data for training I made sure to fully understand every step. Everyone will have their own way of getting to the finish line. I followed my path and I'm super happy with this degree.

Cheapest way to a computer science degree at WGU?
I’m planning on attending WGU online for a computer science degree. I heard from others that a cheap way is I can take a bunch of classes at Sophia.com or study.com and transfer them over so that I don’t need to pay a lot more at school for general classes. I’m 19 no prior college education so I don’t even know which classes I would need to take at Sophia or study.com for a computer science degree. Anybody know where I can get information on which classes I should take on Sophia.com specifically for a computer science degree at WGU that will transfer over credits? Thank you

MSCS Computing Systems MSCS Course Expectations
Just started the MSCS portion of the BSCS to MSCS bridge program and the first class has a requirment of having to record myself writing shell scripts.
While I enjoy my course work and I know this is to stop students from using AI to write their projects Its still very inconvenient for me. I typically do my school work at work in my free time but now im forced to use up time at home to record myself while doing my assignments.
MSCSCS Alumi, is it going to be like this for every class in this program or does it vary per class?

Starting WGU BSCS Nov 1 with 22 courses left, what order should I do them in?
Hey everyone, I’m starting the BS Computer Science program on November 1st and I’ve pretty much finished all the transfer courses I could do before starting.
My evaluation currently says 23 courses remaining, but my Natural Science Lab was just sent in and should transfer, so I should be starting with 22 courses left.
These are the courses I should have remaining:
- C959 Discrete Mathematics I
- C960 Discrete Mathematics II
- D459 Introduction to Systems Thinking and Applications
- D684 Introduction to Computer Science
- E010 Foundations of Programming (Python)
- C949 Data Structures and Algorithms I
- C950 Data Structures and Algorithms II
- C952 Computer Architecture
- D686 Operating Systems for Computer Scientists
- D197 Version Control
- D287 Java Frameworks
- D288 Back-End Programming
- E155 Advanced Java
- D281 Linux Foundations
- D321 AWS Developer
- D480 Software Design and Quality Assurance
- D685 Practical Applications of Prompt
- E074 Agile for Software Engineering
- E064 Mathematics for Programmers
- D682 Artificial Intelligence Optimization for Computer Scientists
- D683 Advanced AI and ML
- D687 Computer Science Project Development with a Team
I’m trying to finish as fast as I can, hopefully in one term if possible. I also want to apply for Georgia Tech OMSCS, and their first deadline is March 1, so if there’s any chance I can finish in time for that I want to try.
For people who have done the newer BSCS curriculum, what order would you do these in? Like which ones should I do back to back because they build on each other, and which ones are better to get out of the way early?
Also which ones are actually quick and which ones are the ones that take forever? I’ve seen people say some WGU classes can be done in a few days and then some take weeks, so I’m trying to know what I’m getting into.
I also have the whole month of October before I start, so I want to use that time to pre study. What would actually be worth learning now so I can move faster once my term starts? I was thinking Java, Spring Boot, Python, Git, Linux, DSA, discrete math, computer architecture, operating systems, AWS etc but obviously I can’t learn all of that properly in one month lol.
If there are any specific YouTube videos, Udemy courses, Quizlets, GitHub guides or anything that made a class way easier, send them too.
Also if anyone has accelerated around 20+ courses in one term, how many hours were you putting in and what classes slowed you down the most?
I do want to finish fast but I’m also trying to actually learn enough for SWE internships/jobs after this, especially the programming and DSA stuff. If you were starting with these same 22 courses and had October to prepare, what would you do first?

Failed my first attempt at discrete math 2
Definitely wanted this class to be over with but I feel this will make me stronger in this category and I can only grow from it. I don’t think I was that far off. I see where I need to be focusing my attention more. 2nd attempt I WILL ace this test.
Good luck to all that are stuck in this class. Just NEVER GIVE UP& LET YOUR FAILURES TEACH YOU SUCCESS .

D801 out of play until January 2027
my mentor let me know earlier in the month that D801 had a deadline to take and pass the OA by Monday the 28th. after that Amazon was retiring the course material. I learned yesterday that the course material will not be updated until January of 2027 when Amazon releases the new certification exam. it has basically sunk my plans to finish in one term. anyone else facing this too?

Course Recommendations
I'm looking for recommendations on best order to tackle some more classes. I have 9 more weeks left in my term and want to get as many of the OA classes finished as I can so I can breeze through the PA's next term. Here are the OAs that I have left:
D315: Network and Security Foundations
D282: Cloud Foundations
D386: Hardware and Operating Systems Essentials
D324: Business of IT - Project Management
D336: Business of IT - Applications
So far, aside from Version Control and Orientation, I've completed 8 courses this term.

Nervous about D336
I have slacked a little bit on my 2nd course which is D336 and I take my exam at 1:30 today. I’m nervous because Idk exactly what the test is going to ask and idk if I fully grasp everything. Don’t get me wrong but it’s kind of a boring course😂. I’m currently watching a yt cram video to help me out so does anyone have any encouraging words?

HELP 9 weeks 6 classes I have. trying to finish in a on term whole degree
Guys i have 9 to 8 weeks and trying to finishing whole degree in a one term because Im broke. I accelerated all available courses from Sophia and Study.com before two months enrolling and we're coming to the end. i just have 9 8 weeks and need to finish all of these courses. yesterday I finished Math 2 and previously a month ago Comp Arhitecture.
Which ones should I focus? I have previous knowledge for Data structure 1 and thinking it will not be hard for both c949 and c950, What you suggest?
Also, English is not my first language and I'm learning the language while studying these courses sometimes I'm not understanding so please give a advice for which classes should I continue for finishing the easy ones first. My memorization skills is scks I'm like a golden fish in memorization.
I actually see a post when i was begin the degree https://www.reddit.com/r/WGU_CompSci/comments/1vcw2rh/officially_a_wgu_cs_grad/
this one and it is so useful but i guess the person who write the post had different abilities than me because Arhitecture was my worst class ever I took 3 times the exam.

C959 Discrete Mathematics I conquered

My brain hurts and im tired but SO HAPPY. (Did calc 1 a few months ago, knocked out version control & web dev in two days. then discrete right after) I spent two months on this class (I was lollygagging for the first month due to life stuff) For the most part, I used Kimberly Brehms youtube series, the recorded videos from Colin under the DM resources page, cohorts, and lots practice with tests and zybooks exercises.
Regarding the OA, it truly is not that bad. I performed better on the OA than I did with the PA. The OA will change the pattern on how they ask questions so make sure you fully understand the concepts. As you can see the logic and proofs had me tripped up. I will admit there were some questions that were so easy it had me questioning if I was reading it correctly.
I got a lot of freebies using the ti84 for matrix operations so make sure you use it if you have it. You still need to learn row ops but ti84 makes it a lot easier. Let me know if you have any questions !

C958 Calculus I Passed CALC OA
This was a beast of a class to me, so happy this one's over. The OA was a good 1.5-2x harder than the PA for me.

updated spreadsheet
Anyone have an updated spreadsheet with the new transfer credits according to the new CS program? from both Sophia and Study.com. I have the 2024 link but i wasn't sure if anything changed.
Also, should I be taking the courses with a asterisk or the ones without the asterisk. In the past it would say the asterisk is prefered class but now its saying they may not be elligible for transfer but can be elective credit.
