Question Curious about Maman Brigitte

I'm hoping to eventually write a story that incorporates the Lwa and Vodou culture as faithfully as possible, and with that in mind, I'm curious about some details surrounding Maman Brigitte.

I do understand that she's a psychopomp, much like her husband(?) Baron Samedi, and that she's a fun character herself. The quote I see most often circulated is something like, 'She's so chatty and full of jokes that she'll have you laughing all the way to the underworld'.

But that's about all I can find out about her with the sources I've found. I've also heard rumors that she has some distant connection to the goddess Brigid of Irish yore, but the depth of that connection is apparently a subject of debate.

Please, enlighten me. I'm dipping my toes into Vodou and hope to explore it more comprehensively in the future, but for now, it's one step at a time.

21 divisions and vodou differences?

Hello! I’m Dominican, both parents are from the island. My father’s side practices 21 divisions and I was told by a brujo that I have the misterios around through that tie. I would go to my grandmother to aid in the practice but, to be frank, she’s not the best person period.

I have never felt connected to anything spiritually like how I have felt learning about La division and hearing palo for the first time.

I’m wary of other practitioners, especially after a particularly unflattering experience I had with a bruja who said I couldn’t possibly have the misterios because I was homosexual. She even insinuated I was being punished or will be punished by them for that.

I was wondering if there were any differences between 21 division and haitian vodou. If so, are those differences closed practices? I want to attain as much information as possible on 21 divisions and practices, how to properly commune with ancestors and los misterios. But I find the information to be scarce and more as though it’s a practice of word of mouth.

Any help would be great! Whether it’s book recommendations or even practitioners who are willing to take in students. Again, anything would be a great deal of help

Transgender people in Vodou

Ayibobo! We've broached the topic of homosexuality in Vodou (thank you, u/Calm_Temperature3843), so, naturally, I wanted to talk about trans people in Vodou. As a humble trans practitioner, I merely wanted to verify that there's place here for me. I know both Èzilis protect trans women, but are there are lwas who protect and extend their patronage to trans men? Do trans people face the same kind of discrimination as gay people in some more Catholic Vodou sosyetes? Or is it better/worse for them?

The Ghede are fond of cross-dressing, yes, but I'm not talking about cross-dressing. I mean medically transitioning: hormonal therapy, gender-affirming surgeries, and the like.

Homosexuality in Vodou

As a haitian mystic, I do spend some time scrolling down on vodou tiktoks or lives. One thing I noticed amongst the Vodou practitioners, especially the ones in Haiti, is that they associate homosexuality (masisi or madivin) with a negative entity/spirit that brings bad luck “to the point your lwas turn their backs on you”. I am curious to know what is going on with that. As a queer, haitian born and raised, LUCK has ALWAYS been on my side no matter who I lay with, and my lwas have ALWAYS blessed me and communicate no matter who I am. Matter fact,
My peak is when I am in a same sex connection. I am not a millionaire but I think I do pretty good for myself across the board. However, I do see Haitian practitioners projecting negativity onto people based on their sexual orientation which does not make sense to me. It actually confuses me about the awareness in vodou. Lwas are supposed to be at a certain vibration that goes beyond time, space and human construct (which includes sexuality). But why are the people that are supposed to be their channelers stuck on human and christian conditioning?

What is your take on homesexuality in Vodou?

Rituals/Recette for passing an exam?

This might be an unpopular question but I am taking my LSAT soon for law school entrance. Are there any Vodou rituals I can do to help me with a high score? Besides studying of course! And yes I am full Haitian but I just never come across such rituals.

Question Is It Wrong To Get Another Fa' Reading?

Hello, I am ridiculously stuck and have been for months. I was fortunately able to receive an Afa reading from what I presumed to be a legitimate Ewe Vodun priest(s), but I felt it was lacking because not only was I told that my calling was to be trained in Afa (and told it would take more than 10,000 which I cannot afford) but also that I rarely had any deities with the exception of the deity named Afa which I googled and there wasn't one named that and it was the name of the practice I got my reading from. Not only that, but I was told things would be better for me if I bought one of their bracelets, and one of the priests was so pushy and insistent on me paying to purchase for their cleaning services and other things that would be $1,100 in total and how my one of my main ancestors are hungry and should be fed NOW and that paying them would feed them, I felt so frustrated that I just stopped talking to them entirely because I felt like I'd been scammed. They were accurate on some things, but the reason I wanted a reading was to see if I was being called because I have so much in the way of dreams...

I would like another reading from someone different, but I googled if I should get one and it said something about how everything will be muddled spirtually-wise and I should only have one Fa/Afa/Ifa reading in my life, so I'd rather ask all of you practitioners if thats true or not? I just want to get clarification on whether I am for this religion or not, I don't want to get scammed again.

Rituals for reconciliation and repair?

African American from NOLA who is a very casual practitioner more on the voodoo side. By casual, I mean very simple rituals to help me keep my day-to-day life feel meaningful, like adding florida water and salt to my mopping water to clean the energy of my house, lighting candles every day as a light ritual to invite alignment into my space and using them for color rituals, using tarot cards to receive clarity (NOT for divining the future or solutions, but just for understanding), and so on.

I don't actively do very many spells because I'm weary of bad spirits.

One of my closest friends (a very strong emotional and spiritual connection) is going through something, and I am too. Both of our individual lives are very, very heavy right now, and it is putting strain on our relationship to each other.

Of course I am allowing things time, space, and the natural emotional effort that it needs, but I am wondering if there are any spells or rituals that anybody could recommend. I'd like to focus on reconciliation and repair, but even suggestions for rituals to help lighten the load or provide guidance/support to each of us would be very helpful.

I am NOT looking for any kind of love or connection spells; I am looking for recommendations to encourage spiritual or emotional relief.

Do “same-sex” maryaj lwa ever happen? Like for example, could a male sevité marry Ogou Badagri or Met Agwe? Would a “male” lwa ever propose to a male sevité? Just curious about if this has ever been seen?

Women dressed in white

I had a really vivid dream last night and I’m trying to understand if it could have any spiritual significance. I’m relatively new to spirituality and Haitian Vodou, so I’m trying to approach this respectfully and not jump to conclusions.
In the dream, there was a light-skinned woman dressed completely in white with the head wrap . I went into her house because I was there to help her. Inside, there were a lot of candles and incense on a table. I also saw what looked like a whiteboard board with “LWA” written on it, along with a bunch of drawings and symbols that I unfortunately can’t remember clearly.
I had the feeling that this woman knew a lot about spirituality, and I was talking to her about how I’m getting into spirituality and asking her questions. The dream wasn’t scary or uncomfortable at all. I actually felt pretty calm and curious around her.
I’ve recently been getting into lucid dreaming and rebuilding my dream recall, so I’m paying more attention to my dreams now. After waking up, the combination of the woman in white, LWA, the candles/incense, and the symbols really stuck with me.
After the dream I’ve been researching different lwa, and Ayizan and Ayida-Weddo caught my attention, but I don’t want to assume it was either one or force an interpretation.
For anyone familiar with Haitian Vodou: does anything about this dream stand out to you? Does the imagery resemble any particular lwa or veve? I’d especially appreciate insight from practitioners or people with firsthand experience

(i am an fully african american person) i have always felt as if i had psychic abilities as a little girl or as i was smarter than everyone else. i have spent the past few days thinking i was neuro divergent because i had an higher intuition than everyone else. i’ve always felt a stronger connection to magical things, hoodoo/witchcraft etc, and nature. i think last night my grandmother who passed before i was born fucking possessed yume or it was another spirit. my best friend who i think also has similar abilities, we have been doing tarot cards and they have been coming back scarily accurate. i also think that my mother is possessed by a demon. call yall please ask me some questions and i will happily answer. i’m really fucking scared

> I am from Benin, birthplace of Vodun - If you don't know your Du, you walk without road - What Fa can show you before you do any ritual

Post image
5 Upvotes

Peace to all - Dah Gbèffa from Hoovi temple, Abomey-Calavi, Benin.

Many people ask me for ritual for prosperity, protection, financial freedom - But in our Fa here, we don't start with ritual. We start with reading.

Because if you don't know your Du, you don't know:

• Your road - What path is open, what path is closed for you now • Your Vodun - Which Vodun protects you, which one follows you from family, which one is angry and needs small respect • Your taboo - What food, what place, what word blocks your money without you knowing • Your ritual - Not big $500 ritual, but small daily respect you can do yourself where you live - palm oil, water, honey, small word - to keep road open

Many come for financial freedom, but Fa says: Financial freedom is not fast money. Fast money comes and goes. Real financial freedom is when you know your Du, you respect your taboo, you feed your Vodun small small every week, and road stays open all year - Not just 3 days.

In this photo, my mother (68) is making offering before Fa reading - palm oil, sodabi, water - To cool Fa so Fa speaks clear, not for money.

If you want to know: - Your Du (your destiny sign among 256) - Which way to go this year - Which Vodun walks with you - What small ritual you can do yourself for prosperity and protection

I do Fa reading with video at sunrise - I throw Kwin, I tell you your Du and what Fa recommends - Reading only, Ebo you do yourself.

You don't need to believe me - Just respect small daily.

If you have questions about Du, road, or Vodun who follows you, I am here to answer in comments - No need DM first.

Thank you for respect, Dah Gbèffa - Hoovi - Benin
