I hate to beat this drum every few months but imo if some people see it who were previously unaware and then they don't die or get soaked that's a good thing.
„Fyrst og fremst er það fólkið sjálft sem ber ábyrgð á sínu eigin öryggi“ (“First and foremost, it’s the people who are responsible for their own safety.”) The landowners have done what they can. It's up to us to pay attention.
Safe Travel has a terrific website and they have an app, too. Here's the relevant page for safety on Reynisfjara. Note that if you do manage to get sucked into the water, no one is going to rescue you. It will be a body retrieval mission, after the ocean has tossed you or your child around and you've drowned in front of horrified, helpless onlookers.
FYI there are a number of beaches with black sand in Iceland that won't kill you so long as you also exercise common sense and respect the ocean. For example, nearby is Gígjagjá aka "Yoda cave" and it's like a full 2km of beach there from cave to water, no one is drowning unless they want to. It's huge and moody and you can explore around the beach in peace. There's a cool cave. When conditions are right you can also hike up to the top of that formation which is called Hjörleifshöfði and in clear weather the view of is unmatched.
If the allure is seeing the basalt columns, Guide to Iceland (I have no affiliation) has a write up on where to see them.
BE SAFE, ENJOY YOUR TRIPS, COME HOME ALIVE!

We (2 adults, 1 x 13year old) have a full day in Reykjavik on Sunday (19th) and was wondering if it's worth doing the Perlan, the aurora museum and the lava show. Or if it would be overkill?
Also, is it generally more cost effective to book online, or do the same admission prices apply on the door?
Thanks

Hi! We’re visiting soon, and I loved the Icelandic sweaters we saw last time we were there, but I’m allergic to wool/ lanolin. I know it’s unlikely, but do any shops with locally made sweaters offer options made from alpaca fiber?

Hi all! I am traveling to Iceland soon, and am currently going through menopause. I run hot and have hot flashes regularly. I hear that indoor buildings and the cabin in Iceland air run warm, so I am wondering if anyone has any advice on the best type of portable fan to bring to keep myself cool? Any tips for a woman in need? Haha. Thanks!

Hi I’m thinking on visiting next month for 4 nights. Any recommendations for hot springs to visit, or any resorts/spa to stay there? Would like to see northern lights also thank you

Hi! I'm planning my first solo trip to Iceland from Dec 28–Jan 6, with a 7-day guided tour covering the major attractions.
The total cost, including the tour, accommodation, and flights, comes to around CAD $6k. I'm excited about the Northern Lights and ice caves, but concerned about winter storms, limited daylight and potential tour cancellations.
For those who've visited Iceland in winter, how was your experience? Would you recommend it for a first-time solo traveller, or do you think summer would be a better choice? I'd really appreciate your thoughts!
Would love some honest opinions! 😊

Hi all! I am currently in Hofn í Hornafirði tonight, heading back to lagoon tomorrow for (hopefully) an ice cave and glacier hike. Our current plan is to head up to Egilssstaðir after to stay there tomorrow night (Thursday), drive to Ayekuri (stay Friday night), stay in Borgarnes Sat night, and fly out Sunday night. All the advisories are beginning to lift, but I’m still worried about all the potential bad winds I am seeing on Veður.is.
Is it safe to continue on that route, or should we just head back along the south to Reykjavík? All the websites seem to say something different and I don’t know how to best proceed in a safe manner.
thank you in advance!!

Hello, my husband and I are thinking go going on a 10-14 day holiday to Iceland either in February or March. I’ll be around 5-6 months pregnant at this point so we’re looking for ideas for activities we can do and also hotels/ accommodation we can stay at that’s peaceful and relaxing.
We’re hoping stay at a few different locations, hire a car, and be able to do some gentle hikes and exploration.

We have a 26 hour layover in Iceland in November. I know they don’t have uber/lyft there, and we’re traveling from the US. What is the best hotel to stay at near the airport in Reykjavik? We’re also hoping to book an excursion to see the northern lights and would take any other recommendations on transportation or things to do nearby! TIA!

A friend and I booked a pretty spontaneous trip and we’re flying to Iceland right now. We’re two guys in our late 20s with an AWD rental for the whole trip and probably more new pro hiking and rain gear than we needed. Here’s our rough plan:
Oct 15: pick up car 10:30 am. Golden Circle, stay in Flúðir
Oct 16: South Coast waterfalls and black sand beaches, stay near Vík
Oct 17: Fjaðrárgljúfur, stay in Skaftafell
Oct 18: Glacier/ice cave tour, Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach, stay in Höfn
Oct 19: Eastfjords, stay in Egilsstaðir
Oct 20: Mývatn
Oct 21: Blönduós
Oct 22: Reykjavík
Oct 23: Fly home
Google Maps showed about 26 hours of driving, which sounded manageable, but reading more has me questioning how much time that leaves for stops, sights, and hikes with October daylight and weather.
We’re into hiking and the outdoors, and mostly want to see amazing places and do fun, adventurous stuff. Happy with busy days and some driving, but don’t want to keep leaving places we’re enjoying just to reach the next hotel.
We’re open to completely reworking the route, including the first few days. Would you keep the full loop, focus on the south, or do south + Snæfellsnes? What would you cut or spend more time on given our dates and interests?

I’m arriving at KEF at 2:25 PM. What time would you recommend booking the Blue Lagoon for? I won’t need to pick up a rental car, as my sister will be waiting at the airport to pick me up and drive us there. I’d like to allow enough time to get through the airport and reach the Blue Lagoon without feeling rushed, but I also don’t want to wait around too long. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like wool/fur is a big part of Icelandic fashion for practical reasons. What are your views on the wool and fur taken from Icelandic animals to make clothing? I am not a vegan but I want to hear your thoughts/ethics behind how these products are harvested here. Thank you

I would be down to drive to see it also.

Hi all!
My fiancé and I are starting to plan our honeymoon trip to Iceland for May 22nd-29th 2027. I have come up with a timeline of where we want to be each day and I am trying to see if anyone has any recommendations on if it’s doable or will be too much for one trip, hotels in those areas, and any special things we won’t want to miss.
- May 22nd: flying into Keflavik airport between 6-9am, traveling to Reykjavik and spending the day and night there.
- May 23rd: waking up in Reykjavik and traveling to Snæfellsnes, we would like to hike, see the waterfalls, see the other sights around the area, and also hopefully see the seals at Ytri Tunga. We would stay the night around this area.
- May 24th: waking up around Snæfellsnes and traveling to the South Coast, see the waterfalls, do some light hiking, see the black sand beaches, and I really hope to see the puffins in Dyrhólaey. We would want to stay around Vík this night.
- May 25th: we will probably take it lighter this day and do some sightseeing around the area and possibly do a glacier hike at Sólheimajökull. We would stay another night in Vík.
- May 26th: we would wake up in Vík and continue along the south coast to see more of the waterfalls and try to stop along diamond beach, and try to stay the night in the Jökulsárlón/Skaftafell area. There’s also a possibility we may take a boat tour around this area as well.
- May 27th: wake up in Jökulsárlón/Skaftafell area and start driving back up towards Reykjavik, staying the night around Selfoss and possibly doing a lava tunnel tour in the area.
- May 28th: wake up around Selfoss and drive the golden circle, go to Sky Lagoon, and spend the rest of the day/night in Reykjavik.
- May 29th: the flight we would take back home would probably be around 4ish, so spend the morning and early afternoon in the city and then drive back to Keflavik airport to catch our flight.
I have tried to start doing research on the hotels to stay in these areas and it’s looking like they are relatively expensive, would now be the best time to start booking or is it possible pricing will change before we go?
Since we are planning to drive this trip ourselves we are planning on renting a car, probably from BLUE car rentals.
Sorry if this is long and slightly unorganized, planning a wedding and an in depth honeymoon has been difficult but I’m sure it’ll be so so worth it!
Thank you anyone for your help I really appreciate it!!! :)

Hi all,
My boyfriend and I are visiting Iceland next week and just decided we should do a photoshoot as Iceland is so so beautiful.
I have reached out to a few photographer on Instagram but since this is short notice it’s been to find someone.
If anyone has suggestions for affordable photographers please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you all :)
