What do you think of The Glenshiel needing funding? Something sounds fishy

Hi everyone — I’m Pablo Diaz, and I work with Progressive Automations, a Canadian company.
We’re looking for a Polaris Ranger owner in Victoria or elsewhere on Canada to help us test a new electric dump bed lift kit.
The selected tester will receive the kit at no cost, including shipping. We’ll also provide virtual technical support during installation if needed.
Compatible models:
In return, we ask the tester to install the kit, share a few photos, and provide brief feedback about the installation, fitment and testing experience.
If you own one of these models and are interested, please send me a DM with your exact model, year and general area.

genuinely asking: is this normal here, or am I missing something?
i've been in victoria about a year. i'm disabled and use a mobility aid, so every errand has a real cost. lately i feel like i'm spending hours a week just trying to find basic things.
this week alone: drove to two stores for tulips, one had the flower section closed, the other stops selling flowers after 7pm. searched three stores for vanilla milk. can't find yerba mate teabags anywhere (not lifestyle markets, not amazon). no sumo oranges at any of the usual places.
none of these are wild requests. these are things i could find without effort in any mid-size city.
i know victoria is smaller, but i'm used to smaller cities. this feels different, like the retail infrastructure just doesn't match the cost of living or the population's actual needs. the time and energy it takes to find ordinary things is significant, and for people with mobility or access constraints it's not a minor inconvenience.
how do people account for this? are there stores or systems i don't know about? or is this just the victoria tax?

I am not the author of this letter, but I am a long time shopper at the Moss street farmers market. During the pandemic shopping at Moss Street farmers market was an island of safety and sanity when all else felt devastated. What was once a random side trip became the cornerstone of my family’s nutrition and health. It is one of the only local, walkable farmers market that is open all year round. We value and depend on obtaining our groceries and visiting with the farmers and friends who grow and produce our food weekly and cannot believe what is happening!
Shopping at the farmers market has not only made it easier to obtain high-quality and nutritious food but very often it is at the same or lower price than found at grocery stores. Purchasing seasonal, locally-grown food is more sustainable for the environment and reduces the Island’s reliance on imported foodstuffs. The production and sales of food and goods at the farmers markets are an essential component of our economy and this threatens the livelihoods of many local businesses who depend on the Moss Street farmers market to distribute their produce and products. Eliminating these dates will threaten their production cycles, cause financial hardship and could lead to the loss of diversity in the foods available.
Join us in telling the School District that cancelling these dates is unnecessary and pressure them to find an option that allows this valued and necessary food security option to remain open and available as it has for the last 12 years.
Please read and share this on your social media and right to School District 61.

RE: School District 61 Cancelling Winter Market Dates
Dear Market Vendors and Customers,
The School District 61 (SD61) Rental Department has cancelled our gym rental for five 2025-26 winter market dates (December 20, 27, January 3, March 21, and 28) due to custodial constraints (they require a custodian to open the school, be present throughout the market, and lock up).
I have appealed, noting that we have rented the gym for our indoor winter markets for the past 12 years, without interruption. And that this winter, with La Niña predicted to bring stormy conditions and cold snaps, outdoor vending will be even less viable than usual. The December and January dates are particularly likely to be a serious setback for the market and our participants. Also, over the past two years, SD61 has eliminated our historical 50% gym rental discount, with our rent now doubled to over $1,300 per market.
I have explained that our customers and community rely on the market as a consistent year-round source of fresh, local food. The market directly contributes to the local food movement, is a vital part of the local food chain and the economy, and supports farmers, food vendors, and artisans.
Before we started in 1992, the market's founders met with the SD61, the City of Victoria, and the Fairfield Gonzales Community Association, and each then realized the importance of a local farmers market and worked to support it. I hope SD61 can realize that wisdom again and continue with that vision.
My appeals to SD61 senior management have gone unanswered.
Call to Action
Please email SD61 Rentals Department at rentals@sd61.bc.ca to express your support for the Moss Street Farmers Market, ask them to find a way to ensure our access to the gym for all Saturdays throughout the winter (except on statutory holidays), and consider restoring our reduced gym rental rate.
Sincerely,
Kyle Goulet Executive Director Moss St. Farmers Market
