Health Care After many years I finally went to mental health but she is not helping me

She told me to breathe in and out, 2 mins a day. and come back next month.

She hasn't asked me about anything really...except the anger issues. She doesn't know about my hygiene issues or anything, because she didn't ask.

Is this common? If there's a better reddit forum to ask this question, please let me know. She's not a therapist..and I can't remember what she said she is. But she acts like a pre-school teacher and I'm the pre-schooler.

If you work and you’re 100PT are you also paying for spouse + child dental and vision? Is there a better option so you don’t have to pay for yourself?

Other Stuff Thoughts on the use of Adjustment Disorder?

Ive been out the Air Force for about a few months now under an Adjustment Disorder Administrative Discharge (USAF). I know a few people that were also discharged under Adjustment Disorder, but they themselves are rated through the VA for something not related to it like MDD or PTSD and continue to struggle even after the 6 months of recovery that AD allegedly takes to sort itself out.

It just seems like the military as a whole likes to use Adjustment Disorder as a catch all to quickly get rid of people that have Mental Health issues without going through the proper MEB/Medical Seperation process.

Has anyone here seen this play out? or perhaps been on the reciving end of this?

Edit: I was in for three years, second/last year of enlistment is when the involuntary hospitalizations, meds that messed with my mind, and TTMs happened. Ive since been service connected and have a civilian job again (still reciving VA therapy) still stings though, the gaslighting i underwent was insane.

Housing Is it really possible to buy a house nowadays with the VA Home Loan with your only income being the 100% rating?

I am rated at 90% but have TDIU. I'm grateful for it but to be honest, with my current rent/bills/etc, it is really hard to save money and I know you need some decent cash upfront when house buying, even with the VA home loan program. I am really worried about the future and don't know how to get ahead and feel like I'll always be stuck, and when thinking about a house, I feel like my income being fixed and not that much will get me turned away or things will be outrageous. That said, there have to be plenty of vets who only live off their fixed income and manage to get a house right?

I also know moving would help of course but I was hoping to stay close, I am in the Philadelphia area. Also if it's relevant, I'm 34 and have pretty good credit (it was like 750-something last I checked). I apologize if these aren't appropriate questions, this whole thing is just really confusing to me. But thank you very much for any help!

VA Disability Claims Back pay question

Quick question I’m at 90% (87%) with a few appeals and deferred claim. My question is if I get let’s say another 30% which won’t be enough to get me 100%. Would there be back pay? And how much if there would be back pay?

VA Disability Claims Retroactive pay

Can someone explain to me why my retroactive pay is so low and why it says it’s completed and they paid me but I don’t see it in my account so I went from 60% to 70% and it says effective date aug 11 and then it says payment start date September 1st and it says retroactive pay deposited October 14 but it’s only 373.43 and I don’t see it in my navy federal account

VA Disability Claims PTSD Rating / Employment

Hey everyone,

I’m a veteran with a 70% VA disability rating for PTSD. I’m looking into armed security jobs and wanted to get some real-world input from people who’ve been in a similar situation. Unfortunately the only experience I have is many years of Military Police, so I've been struggling to find any other jobs and can't seem to get any interviews in other fields with even tailoring my resume to them.

Does a 70% PTSD rating automatically disqualify someone from:

  • Armed security positions
  • Getting the necessary state armed guard / firearms permits
  • Passing employer background checks or psych evaluations for security work

I’ve heard mixed things online. Some say the rating itself doesn’t matter and employers care more about current fitness / ability to do the job. Others say mental health ratings can cause issues with weapons permits or hiring.

Has anyone here worked (or currently work) armed security, private security, or similar roles while having a PTSD rating in the 50–70% range? Any experiences with licensing, background checks, or employer reactions would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

VA Disability Claims 3 interlinked claims

I am close to submitting 3 interlinked claims at the same time to protect an earlier ITF date. I'm claiming Sleep Apnea secondary to service-connected PTSD, Diabetes secondary to PTSD with obesity as an intermediate, and Coronary Heart Disease secondary to Diabetes.

The three claims have 92 Exhibits and total 374 pages with several shared Exhibits. I have indexes for each claim that show exactly what each exhibit does and the crossovers. I have 4 nexus letters (Primary Care for Diabetes connected to Obesity, Cardiologist for Heart Disease connected to Diabetes and obesity, and paid nexus from a Psychiatrist for PTSD related to Sleep Apnea and Diabetes.

Anyone have any experience or horror stories from inter-connected claims?

VA Disability Claims Turn around on having your congressional rep contact the VA?

I've been waiting on a Higher Level Review since June 5th. At the 125 day mark, I got my congresswoman's office to contact the VA about this, they did so promptly. It's been one week today, do I just wait or what?

Health Care Having Surgery. Wife is Worried I'll Die. What happens if that actually happens?

I'll be having a major surgery soon that has a low risk of death, but you never know. My wife is concerned of course.

I'm a 100% Disabled Veteran. What happens if that actually happens? Do the surgeons carry insurance, for malpractice? Or would my wife have to potentially sue?

This isn't a surgery that should cause issues, I'll be under for just a couple of hours.

Education Benefits GI bill tuition - School is dragging their feet with refund

Im using my GI bill at a private school that has kind of been dragging their feet and giving me vague " we're working on it" email updates when I inquire where my refund is at. My title IV funds covered my tuition - and the VA paid the school on 9/26 and its currently 10/15 as I write this

Ive already received my housing allowance, book stipend, and the overbalance payment from the title IV ( it wasn't much, but the pell and loans covered 105% or so )

I emailed the financial aid office- they CC'd me to the veteran SCO and bursar. The SCO just tells me they're waiting for the accounting team to workout bank balances and they appreciate my patience. When I followed up with an estimate on how long this would take to get sorted..the answer has been " we cant give an exact date but were actively working on it"

Can anyone advise if this sounds like a problematic timeline? Im not sure how much more patient to be with this before escalating. Also, any idea where or who I would escalate this? The VA has paid the school - it's just the school is not balancing my account and issuing the balance refund smh.

Any advice appreciated

Education Benefits NC Scholarship for Children of Wartime Veterans

Has anyone used any of these benefits for their own children? If so, how was the process? Were you satisfied?

My son is currently eligible for I-B, unless I kick the bucket from an ear ache. Then, he gets an upgrade. Fingers crossed.

Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E) VR&E Volunteerism?

My VR&E initial meeting was ended because the person said that my plan (finish my MA in Old Testament) was ineligible due to volunteerism. He said they don't approve Biblical Studies or Seminaries. We discussed that I couldn't get a job locally due to education constraints, as I had applied to teach at every school in the area and nobody hired me because my BA didn't align with the positions. I have a MA in Teaching already but not licenced to teach public schools. So my plan was to get my MA in OT (of which I have about a year left) and get help finding a teaching job.

Does this sound normal? Can anybody explain to me what volunteerism is? I couldn't find any regulation that stated that.

Veterans Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Another Issue with VR&E and the College

In my final class for my Masters thesis. It is a 2 semester class for 6 credit hours.

School vet guy said it should have been 3 and 3 credit hours per semester, which makes no sense.

Then says its just 6 credit hours first semester and 0 second.

Anyone ever go through this??

VA Disability Claims Claim parent?

My mom retires in 4 years. Shes not doing well to say the least..she's a couple states away. Unfortunately as much as I love her I just can't have her close to move close.. She's WAY too overwhelming and over bearing and intrudes too much (hard to explain unless you know what I mean.) My parents are divorced (and both since remarried) and my dad would be a blessing to be close to, but I can't do that bc it would throw my mom down a spiral.

Long story short, is it possible/recommended or not possible/not recommended to claim her upon retirement as a dependent? Her health care will be too expensive. She will likely be living with a friend and only on social security. I would like to help her where I can, but worry 1) if it's even a possibility and 2) what it would do for her to make it worth opening up the can of worms it may cause.

Thanks! Not looking for relationship advice. Just looking for VA benefit advice for her through me specifically
