Pride Night Drag Shows were Objectively Bad Entertainment

I bought a ticket to pride night, which I do support. However, I must say the drag show was a massive waste of time. It was like a horrible karaoke show with even worse dancing. I am sorry, but it was simply an objective waste of time. Nobody wants to watch the drunk aunt dance, and what they made us watch before fireworks was about 10x worse. Not to mention the outfits were a bit questionable, considering the amount of kids.

I am not against pride, but I do believe the drag shows are objectively horrible pieces of entertainment. Could we bring in some LGBTQ people with actual talent instead? Drag show was objectively disgraceful, and I should also mention it got ZERO people in the crowd dancing or hyped.

Please don't politicize, just take this as a face value opinion of not enjoying a piece of entertainment.

EDIT

Thank you all for the thoughts. There seems to be a large consensus that these shows were not good and that Canadians organization should replace them with something more productive, both as a piece of entertainment and way to serve the LGBT community.

Agree. You are right to point out pretty much nobody enjoyed it, including LGBTQ people. I have seen good dancers in the past, these guys did absolutely nothing, just stood around and wasted time looking innapropriate. Perhaps we could get a singer or real performer, instead of people with no talent making a quick buck off a social movement. Canadians games are good fun for the community, and this is certainly one way they can improve the near perfect experience even more.

Honestly hesitant to get involved in this, but do agree they are objectively bad entertainment. I would certainly not pay to watch it, because I feel I could deliver a performance of a similar caliber. Fireworks were fun though.

haha, agree, unfortunately...

I’ve been to several drag shows and most don’t hold a candle to the ones in Las Vegas. So I’d disagree that drag shows are objectively bad pieces of entertainment.

I find them closer to US national anthem singing, sometimes excellent, more often than not mediocre and when done poorly it’s mildly traumatizing.

but are they better than bringing in a kid who can sing, or play an instrument? for me it's a no. And i don't really think the average person is a drag enjoyer, just simply wants to see fireworks and finds it unnecessary. let's get some real entertainment in the house!

sir this is a baseball game.

Drag is real entertainment. Just because it’s not entertaining to you doesn’t mean it’s not an art form with incredible talent. Even if this particular show was not great, doesn’t mean all drag is bad.

3

u/Witty-Positive-9605 Aug 09 '26

I literally said this particular show was bad. And it's a baseball game, perhaps we can just leave this niche form of art out of the game. i came for fireworks night.

2

u/Pleasant-Jackfruit69 Aug 09 '26

Yeah a baseball game on pride night and you’re annoyed there was drag entertainment, got it. May I suggest going on literally any other night of the year if niche queer art forms make you whine on reddit.

you’re missing the point on purpose. it has nothing to do with drag as an art form. OP is saying that THIS drag show was shit and they could have done something better like have a queer band perform or have a drag performer who

I hate how every LGBTQ event now a days has to be drag. I can’t stand watching bad drag which is seemingly every one of these events. I’m a huge ally but these events never wanna spend money on the artist and just hire their friends or colleagues with seemingly no experience and zero stage presence

yea. it was bad...

Not always but usually 🇮🇱😵‍💫

yes, in the sense that if you pay for something and it is bad, it's just bad. Would definitely note that about the performances. I think we can say that while still supporting the greater movement and community night, which had a lot of other highlights supporting pride like the first pitches, flags, etc!

What’s a pride night without drag? What are you expecting instead? Drag is an important part of queer culture. Maybe learn about pride and drag before criticizing it - you might develop a better appreciation.

Then again, I don’t watch baseball. I’m only here because I’m queer and reddit algorithm sent me here because it likes to stir up drama - my apologies for the intrusion. I love drag and personally think baseball is the second most boring sport to watch after golf. Point is, we all enjoy different things and that’s ok!

the point was that it’s shitty entertainment performed with little to no skill

1

u/a_political778 Aug 09 '26

My point was “shitty entertainment” and “no skill” are subjective. You can move along if it’s not for you and let others enjoy it. Clearly there are those who find meaning in drag - who are you to be an authority on what can have meaning to people? Drag is an important expression for many people in the queer community

1

u/Pleasant-Jackfruit69 Aug 09 '26

He has the authority to declare drag requires no skill because he doesn’t like or understand it and that’s as far as the low EQ boys are able to go with critical thought.

hey guys, i was being respectful and I don't really appreciate the aggressive language. My issue is not with art form, but rather what I saw at the game. It was a real waste of time, and i can tell you absolutely nobody enjoyed it because it was that bad.

It doesn't seem like you were there, so your opinion is not especially meaningful to me, especially considering the aggressive language.

I brought my 2 and 4 year old trans kids hoping to see the famous helicopter show but was also left very disappointed. Will try again next year!

1

u/Substantial_Tip1545 Aug 10 '26

Wtf. 2 and 4 year old trans kids? Sounds like a parental label more than a self expression. A phenomenon that affects a small minority of people, and BOTH your pre school kids have it 🧐

1

u/Frankfitter252 Aug 11 '26

Yes! What are the odds right! I am so lucky and privileged. Neither talks much but I know what they want.

1

u/Substantial_Tip1545 Aug 11 '26

Omg I got owned, but good one. Recognizing /s is not my strong point.

Watching adults lip sync is low form of entertainment

I miss drag shows like 15-20 years ago. 😭

"That I support" and then rant about the drag show. At least you tried to not look like a homofobic who sexualizes everything.

3

u/Witty-Positive-9605 Aug 08 '26

Alright, well if we even disregard that I still don't think it's good entertainment. Do you?

-2

u/No_Difference_1983 Aug 08 '26

I was not there, but I have been in situations where I don't like the entertainment and I don't go out and have a homophobic rant "disguised" as just a normal rant.

3

u/blondechinesehair Aug 09 '26

They aren’t being homophobic you’re being a pain in the ass

0

u/No_Difference_1983 Aug 09 '26

Hi homophobic, we see you

3

u/Radiant_Sherbert7272 Aug 09 '26

Who's we?

0

u/No_Difference_1983 Aug 09 '26

Everyone reading this

2

u/Huge_Bottle_3684 Aug 10 '26

I'm not homophobic and agree with everyone else. You're annoying AF

1

u/No_Difference_1983 Aug 10 '26

Yes you are

1

u/Huge_Bottle_3684 Aug 11 '26

Stfu already. Get some help

2

u/Radiant_Sherbert7272 Aug 08 '26

Can you point me to the homophobia in the post?

1

u/No_Difference_1983 Aug 09 '26

I am not here to educate

2

u/Radiant_Sherbert7272 Aug 09 '26

Then what are you here to do exactly?

0

u/No_Difference_1983 Aug 09 '26

Shout out homophobic people, welcome to the list

2

u/Radiant_Sherbert7272 Aug 09 '26

And I will ask again can you point me to this homophobia?

1

u/Pleasant-Jackfruit69 Aug 09 '26

You all think the only way someone can be homophobic is if they say “I hate gay people” out loud.

But actually it’s choosing to attend a ball game on pride night and then whining that the entertainment was gay. OP suggested the “LGBTQ people” could just sing or play an instrument or something. Because he doesn’t actually want to see gay people acting gay. They can exist, he “supports” pride lol, but for the love of god don’t make him watch a form of queer entertainment.

And I know he’s not just saying THIS particular drag act was bad. Many in the comments are dismissing the entire art form like it’s not real entertainment and that it couldn’t possibly involve skill or talent if it’s something they don’t like.

2

u/Witty-Positive-9605 Aug 10 '26

Hey to you and no difference. Didn't mean to offend, and if my opinion came across poorly sorry. i still do think it is a worthwhile conversation. There are all sorts of acts out there, including higher quality drag performances. The product that was delivered was horrible and honestly worse than sitting in silence. I can tell you nobody enjoyed it since i was sitting with the majority of the crowd and not a single person was dancing, or watching. that is a problem that should be addressed, and if we dismiss that as homophobia i do believe that's a big loss for our canadians community because here we have an opportunity to talk about solutions.

1

u/Radiant_Sherbert7272 Aug 09 '26

I'm still waiting for this alleged homophobia. Saying a drag show was bad doesn't mean you think that members of the LGBTQ community shouldn't exist or have rights.

1

u/Witty-Positive-9605 Aug 09 '26

I sincerely apologize if you found my post homophobic. I was simply expressing opinions, which I believe are valid, and okay to share. But if you couldn't handle it... my bad i guess bruh. Everyone was able to engage respectfully but you.

This thread was a real eye opener for things going way too far into the mind virus territory. One commenter is talking about bringing their 2 and 4 year old trans kids to the game. Thats a mind virus, coming from a parent, or genetic, but cannot be randomly occurring.
