Salt Lake City Huarache from El Morelense
I ate this Huarache topped with Chicken Tinga at El Morelense in South Jordan today. And Wow! This thing is huge. It takes up the full plate and I could really only eat half of it. I ate Huaraches in Mexico City earlier this year and this one was every bit as good and maybe better. This is a very popular type of street food in Central Mexico and you can find it in restaurants there too.
The base is an oblong-shaped thick corn tortilla filled with a thin layer of refried beans and cooked on the grill. This one is topped with meat, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, avocado, cotija cheese, and crema. The Chicken Tinga itself packed a lot of flavor. The whole thing really was outstanding.
El Morelense is quickly becoming my favorite place for Mexican Food in the valley. Their Al Pastor tacos blew me away last time I visited. I can't count the number of times I've driven past it in recent years (along 114th South) and never gone in. I learned about its quality when doing a recent Reddit search. They have another location (the original) in West Valley too.
