Housing 2026-27 Housing Megathread

Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.

Listings:

  • Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.

  • UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates. They charge for property listings, but offer free sublease listings. Also people simply post in the roommates section that they have a place they are looking to fill as well.

  • Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.

  • Zillow (ann arbor) - Zillow

  • Roomies.com - Roomies.com you can search for listings and roommates by location. Even though it's apparently a national site, enough people locally use it that it's worth taking a look at.

  • Apartments.com - Apartments.com

  • ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.

  • Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.

  • Ann Arbor Observer Rentlink Housing Search

Resources:

By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check) *Ann Arbor building rental and inspection services

Social media/community resources:

Past resources:

Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.

Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.

They can't even verify numbers are valid.

Disclosure could cause limited harm to individuals and/or the university with some risk of civil liability. May be subject to contractual agreements or regulatory compliance, or is individually identifiable, confidential, and/or proprietary.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.

The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others

If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.

Social Cute Guy in my Class

There’s a guy in one of my classes that I think is super cute but I don’t know how to approach him AT ALL. It’s a relatively small class and most of the course work is through small group projects but people tend to stick with the same group they had before so we’ve never interacted. I don’t think we’ve even made eye contact.

Genuinely how do I approach this situation. Should I try and sit next to him? Ask for a pencil even though none of our class work requires one? Compliment a jacket he wears? I don’t wanna be awkward but idk how not to be.

I’d honestly be fine not saying something but at the same time I think I might be mad at myself if I go the entire semester without talking to him at least once. HELP

Degree Econ vs Polisci vs Business Minor for Engineering Major

Hi all,

I'm a freshman looking to major in electrical engineering, and I was also considering doing a minor. I'm pretty interested in econ, polisci, and business, so I was looking to see if anyone had any experience doing a minor in any of these along with an engineering degree and how that went. I think I'm most interested in polisci (I have like zero experience with it though), but I'm pretty open to all 3.

Health / Wellness I need help

Last weekend I was forced to get ambulanced by the cops to the ER for alcohol intox because i was stumbling. I do NOT want to tell my parents because i will get disowned. what should i do. dont lecture me because TRUST ME ive already learned my lesson. i dont have student health insurance but i am considering purchasing it if you think it could cover this even after it occurred. i do not have my parents insurance on my health file and am honestly planning on paying this self-pay. how much do you think this bill could come out to if i call up the hospitals billing department and ask for a discount (or will they js laugh in my face). also in the hospital they did not give me any iv drips or testing i literally just slept there and left early in the morning.

once again i do not need a lecture i have 100% learned my lesson and am just looking for guidance

Miscellaneous How to stay in Ann Arbor during the summer?

• Upvotes

Hi!!

I'm a freshman and plan on staying in Ann Arbor during the summer since I don't really have anywhere else to go. But was wondering if I could get some advice on the different opportunities to stay in Ann Arbor? I'm interested in doing some things sublet, summer class, travel abroad, research..etc...but a bit overwhelmed with all the options and whether they are realistic or not. I'm a bit loss and just want to see what other people did over the summer. Thank you for any and all advice I hope to get.

Sports Intramural pickleball

• Upvotes

Anyone interested in pairing up to form a pickleball team for the Blue Intramural season starting oct 25?

Flexible on timing, experience level, etc.

27M, moved to A2 recently, would describe myself as a chill guy. Haven’t met too many people here yet and would like to change that. Shoot me a message if interested or for more info.

(If you don’t want to commit to a team, I’m also down to play pickleball during Hadley open rec hours, hmu)

PSA The Harlan Hatcher Reading Room...

Is a quiet area you guys. I go there because it's supposed to be quiet. Obviously there will be some noise from shuffling, coughing, etc...But I can't believe I had to leave an get a study corral because one guy was humming and talking to himself, two couples on either side of me were giggling, flirting, and goofing off loudly. There was a group at the other end of the table talking and gossiping. I don't feel like I should have to put in headphones when I'm in a designated quiet area.
There are communal spaces all over both libraries. Go there.
This was really frustrating today, I'm trying to put the finishing touches on a paper I have due tomorrow and study for a test next week :(

Class STATS 250 tips or alternatives for transfer credits?

I'm currently taking STATS 250 and its going HORRIBLE and I dont even know if Im going to pass the class, I was behind on 2 lectures cause I had to work on other classes in september and when I caught up it was already the first exam which I botched so hard. I think I might fail but is it possible to retake STATS 250 in the winter or find an alternate class in Michigan or online courses? I dont have a car so I cant commute too far for in person alternatives. I also need to take this or an equivalent class cause its a requirement to stay in my major. I've tried out office hours and IDK it just doesn't help my pea brain understand a few concepts.

Academics - Other Topics Mideast 201 midterm

Has anyone taken this class with Jay and remember how his exam was? He grades using gradecraft so I’m not necessarily overworried about it since there is so many other opportunities to get an A but would still like to do quite well on the midterm regardless.

Academics - Other Topics Chem 261 Exam 1 - Zimmerman

I’m in chem 261 right now with prof zimmerman and im trying to study for my upcoming exam but I’m genuinely so confused on what to study. I feel confused on what to even study because the things talked about in lecture are more in depth than what I’ve been told is expected for the exam. I’ve asked my gsi and study group coordinator what to study but I keep getting different answers from each of them. Can anyone who took the exam from Zimmerman before, let me know what worked for you?

Thanks!

Class psych 112

hi, im a freshman at michigan and taking psych 112. im in ross and was told to take easy electives to keep my GPA up bc ross classes can bring it down, so i took this psych class to be an easy A bc i saw the atlas grade distributions. but, i got an average of 5-5.5 on the past two quizzes and dont know what to do or how much this matters. on rate my professor i saw people saying they did poorly on the quizzes but he gives EC so you can still get an A. he hasnt even mentioned any EC yet and we're almost halfway through the semester soo if anyone has taken this class before please lmk what you think or share your experience

Social Looking for friends?

Hiiiii! I’m a junior 20F looking for some new connections. I’ve had a hard time making friends here and while I have made more casual friends, and acquaintances, nothing really stuck.

I love thrifting, live music, drawing in my sketchbook, cooking and baking, being outside & hiking and anime. Also playing every daily game the light touches. I’m majoring in UX design and minoring in computer science and Art & design. Message me if you want to go to a coffee shop or window shop in downtown Ann Arbor with me!

Anyone know why she quit (or was made to quit) so abruptly? And why all this leadership turnover at Michigan Medicine? It seems like a new announcement comes out every week.

Academics - Other Topics EECS 445 Midterm

Hi! Does anyone who has taken 445 in the past have any advice for the 445 midterm? It's coming up and I don't have any good strategies yet. It's Kutty and Wiens teaching it and I think Wiens is writing the exam.

Academics - Other Topics Chem majors assemble (plz)

I'm a transfer student who started this fall, and I enjoy science. I am not pre-health; I want to work in research and development for a food company. That said, as ideal as a chem major would be, I am terrible at math and scared to take calc here. I don't mind taking Calc 1 since I'm somewhat familiar, but the thought of Calc 2 terrifies me.

Again, I would prefer to be a chem major over a bio major, but is it worth it? I would love to hear from any chem majors <3

Academics - Other Topics Taking non degree courses

Hey,

Does anyone know affordable ways to take non degree courses here or how to fund a second bachelor’s?

Basically parents pressured me into an undergrad degree I hated. Cut me off. Trying to figure out ways to rebuild a resume for humanities grad school.

Thanks!
