Hey guys, apparently my referees haven’t been contacted yet. Is that concerning? Or are they sent out in batches (what a friend said).

Any insight would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Hi guys I’m currently an international biomed fy student who wanna enter Medcine.

Today both of my referees contact me that they had the email from uni, but they can’t submit the form. It’s said error.

Does that matter? Or just bcz too many people submitting the form? Could someone please tell me what’s going on.
Thankyou!!!

MMI outcome email

Do they email everyone their results? I applied a couple years ago and didn’t get an email (albeit had a probably below average interview as didn’t really prepare) so was wondering if I didn’t get an email cause it was shit or they just didn’t send them out then and is that the same this year?

Transfer from BsC (nutrition) to Nursing - advice

Hi so currently im doing a bsc with nutriton specialisation in first year. Ive thought it over and want to transfer to nursing. I am mainly worried about family pressure but also gpa requirements, the GPA min for nursing is a 4.0 but I understand itll likely be higher then that. After my first year is over ill be looking at a 4.5 ish gpa (but i have a upward trending grade curve, sem 1 was 3.0 - sem 2 is looking like 6.0).

My ncea rank score was like 243 so could they maybe consider that if its better then my GPA?

Also will they ONLY look at my gpa, or any awards/class rep stuff that ive done. I feel like I can do good in the interview so what chances to I have here

iPad for biomed - is it actually worth the money?

Hello! I’m doing the new BBioMedSc at UoA next year and just wanted some opinions on whether having an iPad is actually worth it. I know the degree is new, but it shares core papers with the other premed pathways so I figured someone here might be able to help me out. I definitely feel like handwriting my notes helps me retain information more efficiently than typing them, but I’ve heard that it’s impossible to keep up with the pace of lectures if you choose to handwrite. I’m also unsure if having an iPad would be helpful for interacting with the content e.g. annotating diagrams and lecture slides etc. If you made the switch, let me know what your thoughts are!

Auckland or Otago ??

Hi guys, I’m currently deciding between studying at UoA or Otago, with a future goal of studying medicine or possibly pharmacy.
For aucks I got a top achievers scholarship of approx 27k and a place in my preferred hall (Grafton) I’d be studying health science. At Otago I was offered a Māori entrance scholarship with high distinction at approx 24k paid across 2 years (19.somethingK in the first and 4K in the 2nd year) I was also offered my first pick hall (Hayward) and will studying hsfy. My dilemma is that I’ve been involved in a few on campus experiences (some specifically for Māori students interested in health professions) at Auckland through MAPAS (COACH) and also an Otago version called REACH and feel that there’s something really special about Otago, so much so that originally before scholarships came out I was more set on Otago.
Otago is much further away from my hometown, I would be able to drive back from Auckland but would need to fly back and forth from Otago which adds a bit of a cost in the breaks, but I also hear that 2nd year flatting is cheaper in Dunedin.
I am applying to other niche scholarship that could potentially bridge the financial gap and pay completely for halls but I would really appreciate some input in my situation and what you would do to choose between them.

Auckland vs Otago

Hey everyone! I'm from Christchurch and trying to decide between the University of Auckland and the University of Otago for next year.

I'm interested in studying towards medicine, with physiotherapy as another possible pathway, so both universities are options I'm seriously considering.

Auckland:

  • I'd be looking at studying a BSc in Exercise Sciences/Physiology, then apply to med in 2028 or finish the degree then apply again to med, physio, or clinical exercise physiology
  • I'm really drawn to the idea of moving somewhere completely new, meeting new people and having a fresh start.
  • I think I'd really enjoy the independence and the opportunities that come with living in a bigger city.
  • My main concerns are the cost of living, moving so far away from home, and whether I'd find it difficult to settle in/socialness of auckland
  • i got into uni hall towers which was my top option
  • Otago:
  • I'd be looking at Health Sciences First Year (HSFY), with medicine and physiotherapy as possible pathways.
  • I've been offered a place at Studholme, which seems like it could be a really good first-year experience.
  • It feels like the safer and more familiar option, and I'd be closer to home.
  • However, I'm slightly worried that I'd choose it because it's less scary, rather than because it's genuinely where I want to be.

I'm really struggling because Auckland excites me, but Otago feels less intimidating. I'm trying to work out whether moving to Auckland would be worth the extra cost and distance from home, or whether Otago would be the better decision.
