The overwhelming majority of people should just own a small sedan

11.0k Upvotes

- 80% of all trips are single person

- the average truck driver uses the bed of their truck twice a year

- the birth rate in America is around 1.5 births per woman, so having 3 or more kids is rare

I swear to god, most of the time when I’m seeing trucks on the road, there’s nothing in their bed and their truck is sparkly clean. Escalades and suburbans have just one person in them

The majority of people for the majority of tasks just need a small sedan. A Toyota Corolla, basically. It would be more efficient to rent a truck from Home Depot when you need it than to buy a truck that costs $50k when a Corolla costs <$30k (and has better gas mileage)

People just buy cars for image and because it’s the car they think they should buy, not an actual measured and practical choice. They buy a truck cause they want people to think they’re rugged, not cause they need a truck. The most obvious example is jeeps. Those cars suck at what they’re advertised for, but people don’t even know that because they never take it off road

Realistically, at least 80% of passenger vehicles should just be small sedans. It should be kinda rare to see SUVs, jeeps, etc

Ribs are a trash meal

Ribs suck, they take forever to make, they have little meat on them, and they aren’t worth the time it effort it takes to make.

Also not worth at a restaurant, just get sometime good like a solid steak or brisket.

Ribs are absolutely inferior to every other meat option.

Blockbuster would be better than Netflix if it came out now.

I don't know where we went wrong but it probably went wrong when we let streaming services take over the entire market. At first this was great. You can save 100s of movies on your play list and they still sent movies to you in the mail. But when blockbuster left, a all video stores went out of business. They stripped the movies In the mail away. But we accepted it. It was still convenient. Slow boil.

Now most have to buy into several services to get access to all the movies that used to be on one service.

Now you can't even save a movie to your list , and decide to watch it next month. It might be gone, off the playlist. It could be gone the next day. Because you just noticed it right before it was scheduled to be erased. Now you have rent it? And sometimes it's $9.99 Just to watch it once for 2 days? I can't get a week? Maybe I get distracted and watch half . Now im fked and have to pay $9.99 again to finish the other 30min i missed? Why? Or I can buy it for double the price. I don't want to buy it forever. Just for you to tell me a year later that they have to erase it even though I bought it to own.

They made it so bad that we actually need blockbuster back. I pass 100s of stores a day driving. I stop for coffee, maybe lunch, items from the supermarket etc. I don't fking mind stopping for a movie that I really want to see and not having to worry about it being stripped out of my ability to watch it if I didn't watch it the first 2 days I had it.

And I don't even have to stop. People order off Amazon, temu and all sorts of shit. If we can wait for packages the next day or 2. We can wait for a DVD to come in the mail the next day too.

Also you can't even find all the older movies you want anymore.

I'm tired of getting robbed out of my enjoyment to watch a movie.

A spoon is the far superior eating utensil and almost always the better choice.

A fork is better for what… maybe spaghetti? And even then, folks usually use a spoon in addition to the fork. You can just eat so much easier and more efficiently with a spoon. Forks are almost never the better option when eating.

We should be changing the clocks MORE times per year in accordance with the sun. It is not difficult to adjust sleep 1 hour only twice per year, but it would be even easier if we did it more often.

People who complain about Daylight Savings Time don't actually care about getting more sunlight, or else they would agree that we should change the clocks more times per year to maximize sunlight hours. In fact, they are actually just upset each time they need to adjust 1 hour due to either a lack of flexibility and planning. Do you not go to bed or wake up early regularly? It's not an existential challenge, to wake up 1 hour earlier or sleep 1 hour later, but fairly easy for your body to adjust to if you are a well adjusted adult. If we did it more times per year, it would be even less of a change for your body.

In Alberta this year, we are not adjusting our clocks, so in the winter the sun wont rise until 9:30-10:00 am in most places. Do you really want to spend almost all of your morning in darkness? Just so you can "have some sunlight on the drive home"? We don't work in windowless boxes I hope.

For centuries before the ancient Romans invented the sundial humanity timed their days naturally with the sun. Since we decided to section the days into hours there has been the issue of the length of days changing throughout the year. Adjusting the clocks is the best thing we can do.

**- bunch of teenagers in the comments who must be so sleepy they forgot what sub theyre on. maybe the little babies missed an hour of sleep and are swooper cwanky :(

J-pop is better music than K-pop.

1.6k Upvotes

J-pop is more musically distinctive, creative, and unpredictable. Much of mainstream K-pop feels like a highly polished adaptation of American R&B, hip-hop, EDM, and contemporary pop, using predictable song structures, repetitive hooks, obligatory rap verses, and bass drops. Much of K-pop's identity seems rooted in its presentation, choreography, visuals, and production rather than the music itself. J-pop, on the other hand, tends to place greater emphasis on melodic complexity, interesting chord progressions, unconventional arrangements, and individual artistic expression. Of course, there are exceptions, but I find that J-pop rewards attentive listening, whereas mainstream K-pop seems increasingly designed for immediate commercial appeal. Global popularity doesn't necessarily reflect musical originality or quality, and I think J-pop has a stronger and more recognizable musical identity.

The best way to network is to just do things you like and invite others to come along with you.

I've been to a handful of networking events. Bars, showcases, etc. Places where people show up in suits, give you a sweaty handshake and end with a 2-minute monologue about their job and a swapping of LinkedIn profiles.

I rarely remember those people or read those profiles, aside from maybe a cursory glance. This isn't to put myself on a pedestal. I'm a normal person like everyone else. I just don't have the investment to care about a guy who I briefly met at a networking event and will likely never see again. If they asked me months later for a referral or advice, my first question would be who this person is and how I know them.

The people who I actually care about are the people who are... you know... friends who I do stuff with in real life. I'm friends with many people in my industry, and we'll meet up from time to time for board game nights, sports, etc. Often I'll meet a new person and we'll chat and exchange contact info. That is a person that I would recommend for a job and vice versa.

I've had the most success in meeting people by being friendly with coworkers/ people in my industry and inviting them to events. Meet an interesting person at a bar? Invite them to my next friend group's meetup. Bam. That's a new friend and a new contact for myself and everyone in my friend group.

The best part is, you never need to waste time going to "networking" events. Just do things that you like to do with people that you like anyways, and let the relationships form naturally over time.

Room temperature brownies are better than warm/hot brownies

I like feeling each chocolate chip, when is warm or hot they are gooey and blend into the taste. Also if you’re eating it with ice cream then the ice cream melts much too fast on a warm or hot brownie. Anyone agree?

Tesla Roadster looks like someone tried to draw a Ferrari Luce from memory

That’s it really. The Ferrari Luce was panned for its looks, and the new Roadster looks like someone tried to draw it from memory while in a K-hole.

They took the worst design elements of the cybertruck and combined it with a Disney-esque rendition of what the future might look like.

If your relationship couldn't survive long distance then it's not worth pursuing in the first place

I saw a post from a girl who decided not to go to her dream college because her boyfriend said he couldn't handle long distance relationship and she just kept defending him in the comments. I find it hard to believe that someone can claim to love you deeply, see a future with you, and genuinely want to build a life with you, but then lose interest simply because you can't be physically together for a while. Isn't the whole point of being with someone that you value them for more than just their physical presence? If a few months apart are enough to make you question your feelings, lose interest, or look for someone more convenient, then maybe what you had wasn't as meaningful as you thought. Giving up your future for someone who's not willing to wait for you is in my opinion one of the dumbest things you can do.

Long, melting cheese is annoying

There is something genuinely annoying about cheese that refuses to break apart when you try to eat it. You take a bite of pizza, pull a slice away, and suddenly there is an endless strand of cheese connecting everything together. You pull harder, and it just keeps stretching instead of breaking. Sometimes you have to bite through it or awkwardly use your hands just to separate a piece of food. How is that supposed to be satisfying?

the worst part is that people seem to love this. Every time there is an advertisement for pizza or another cheesy meal, they showcase the cheese stretching for as long as physically possible, as if it is the most appetizing thing ever. The longer it stretches, the more impressive it supposedly looks. Personally, it just looks annoying to eat. Melted cheese is great, but there is a difference between enjoying cheesy food and having to fight a three-foot strand of cheese just to take a bite

German cockroaches are kinda cute

I agree that they’re pests. I agree that they’re unsanitary. I agree that seeing them strut about my kitchen counters makes me want to immolate myself, my apartment, and the rest of my block.

However, if they lived entirely outdoors and away from us? Their little antennae and dopey eyes would be so adorable 🥺 German cockroaches have the obvious advantage of being one of the smallest (and therefore cutest) species of roach, but even big species like the Oriental Cockroach can be cute lil dudes on a good day. Even bereft of physically cute features, I think it’s their (perceived) curiosity that endears them to me despite the ick.

My partner has called me “an unrepentant monster who must be stopped” for this take, and I get it. Lots of folks hate bugs, few others find them cute.

Anyways, the building was fumigated today

Blowing out the candles on a cake is gross

Somebody blowing little spit particles onto the cake before we all have a slice is disgusting - almost ruins the cake. Even worse when they don’t blow out the candles first time round and have to double-down with another round. Good luck with those 85 candles Grandad. Don’t get me started on those joke candles that reignite.

Denzel Washington is not that great of an actor

• Upvotes

I get that he's popular, people love him and his movies do well, but if you really watch his roles, for the most part, he turns on "Denzel Washington" for practically every role. He could be Marcus Aurelius going "my n*****" and people would be telling you how great he was in the role.

Sales and marketing is inherently exploitative and the people working in those fields should feel bad

1.7k Upvotes

Edit to better articulate:

I get that they aren't physically causing harm but the methods used when directed at consumers at this point are teetering on the edge. Their primary goal is to manufacture demand, manipulate consumer psychology, and extract as much money as possible rather than meet genuine needs. The FTC found that nearly 76% of 642 websites and apps examined in a 2024 international review used at least one potential manipulative design tactic, with nearly 67% using multiple tactics, including hiding important information and steering consumers toward decisions that exclusively benefit businesses. When an industry routinely rewards exploiting psychological vulnerabilities, creating artificial urgency, and obscuring the true cost of products, its workers have a moral responsibility to question what they are helping normalize; earning a living does not automatically make the work ethical.

Furthermore, most people can extrapolate that what I'm referring to is the consumer facing side of these industries. You can understand why a fork manufacturer would need to sell to a distributor, that's not the side weaponizing information against the community. Whether it be long ad breaks for products you can't opt out of or are actively paying for the supposed privilege of avoiding or being upsold on additional coverages, warranties and credit cards you don't actually need these industries still leverage manipulative tactics to exploit their base.

DiGiorno is better than just about every major pizza delivery chain

Not trolling here.

Dominos and Papa Johns are just not very good. Pizza Hut certainly has a time and a place, but I'd default to DiGiorno over that.

Far from being the best pizza or even very good pizza, it's the most frequent pizza I have I'd say. The bar is just low as hell from the main delivery giants.

So do yourself a favor. Go to the gas station and buy yourself a DiGiorno pepperoni. Classic. Simple. Spend the $11 or whatever. Bake to your liking. Is that REALLY worse than the aforementioned delivery guys?

The Green Lantern movie w/ Ryan Reynolds was good.

AND the CGI suit works well for the world. It's almost like a construct of the ring and makes sense for a cosmic space organization that all has matching uniforms.

It's not a perfect movie, but for covering a cosmic space organization that protects the universe from the manifestation of fear, while providing lore and character development....it's pretty good. And better than a lot of modern super hero movies.

Fight me >.<

I don't believe most people are good people, and the way they drive is proof of that.

1.4k Upvotes

People love saying that most people are mostly good but the way people behave on the road makes me doubt that.

Every day I encounter people tailgating, cutting others off, changing lanes without signaling, weaving through traffic, and forcing other drivers to brake because they couldn’t be bothered to wait for a safe opening.

And it’s not some rare occurrence. This happens to me and all around me constantly every single day.

Before anyone tells me “everyone makes mistakes” I’m not talking about mistakes. I’m talking about people who knowingly and repeatedly put strangers at risk for their own convenience.

While driving you’re anonymous, surrounded by people you’ll probably never see again, and never really held accountable for being a jerk.

How do you choose to treat those people?

I think that’s a far better measure of who they are than how they behave around their friends and family.

If you’re willing to endanger someone else’s life because waiting a few seconds inconveniences you that’s not simply poor driving ability. That’s selfishness and a lack of empathy.

And I think people cling to the belief that most people are good because it’s comforting. Nobody wants to believe they’re surrounded by people who care more about their own convenience than the safety of strangers.

Being a good person isn’t just about how you treat people you care about. It’s about how you treat people who can do absolutely nothing for you.

Maybe most people aren’t genuinely good. Maybe they’re simply good when being good is convenient.

Credit card points are stupid

People who min-max credit card points are so stupid I have no idea how people get obsessed with it.

The difference between a default 2% cash card you use for all of your purchases and someone who has 10 different cards to maximize every purchase is like what a few hundred bucks in savings a year?

That’s what people get obsessed with?? How is it worth the time and effort for such a small amount of savings. Your average coupon mom is saving more money than that and doesn’t have to deal with 10 different apps or credit card statements.

You’re not cheating the system you’re doing exactly what banks want you to do.

Visual only text conversations in movies are a chore to keep up with and could be complimented with dialogue better.

So many newer movies and shows constantly have silent conversations via text since that's obviously how people communicate now. The main problem I have is most of the time the text is a struggle to read. If they matched the size of the subtitles it would be fine.

Anyone who thinks humanity is ever leaving the solar system has watched too much sci fi

9.9k Upvotes

The amount of people I've seen who genuinely say that we will inevitably travel to distant stars and that it's only a matter of time baffles me. We have so many movies and books and whatever about humanity becoming a space faring species that a lot of people seem to take it for granted. They treat space travel as some temporary challenge that will inevitably be overcome. And, to an extent, I kinda get it. I mean, the universe is just full of the most incredible wonders our minds can think of. Of course we should be able to go and see them. Otherwise it would be just a cruel cosmic joke to have so much wonderful things out there and just put them forever out of our reach.

But the thing is, that is the case.

People seem to have some vague idea that space travel would be difficult. But most don't seem to realize just how extremely, unfairly even, difficult it really is.

You would need to be basically 100% efficient with all your resources all the time, because all you take with is all you will have for the rest of the trip. You would need your crew to travel for years without killing each other or going mad. If you think that's easy just look how researchers in Antarctica can lose their marbles. You would need a way to keep all your crew healthy, which would be pretty hard with all the radiation they'll be subjected to, not to mention the need for artificial gravity that is 1 to 1 the gravity of earth, otherwise say goodbye to health as a concept. You would need to be lucky. Travel fast enough and a random grain of dust your ship hits would be functionally the same as a bullet or an artillery round, depending on the speed.

Speaking of speed. You aren't going ftl. Full stop. Ftl is just fundamentally impossible. Traveling ftl, no matter the method, straight up breaks causality. Hoping for an ftl technology is the same as hoping that god himself will come down from heaven and grant us all our wishes.

And without ftl you are forced to a snail's pace in cosmic terms. At these speeds, it will be thousands to millions of years of travel to reach our destinations

Airport lounges are completely pointless.

There is no point in using them before takeoff, because by the time you find it, find a spot and settle in, it’s time to go to your gate. Nobody gets to the airport hours early just so they can sit in the delta lounge.

There’s no point in using them when you land, because you can just go home/to your hotel.

The only time where it makes any sense to use them is if you have a very specific length of time in a layover. If you have less than an hour or 2, most people just grab some food and wait at their gate because they don’t want to miss their flight. If it’s more than like 6 hours, most people will leave the airport and do something else. So it needs to be like a 3 hour layover.

And even in that case, they are a big letdown. It’s just some slightly more conformable chairs, and maybe a complimentary bottle of water with some shitty food. Plus it’s usually in another terminal, and has a line to get in half the time. It’s better to just wait at a bar or in a chilis or even just any quiet place out in the terminal if you need to kill a few hours.

Harry Potter did not get favorable treatment from Dumbledore

How is getting points for killing the giant snake that has been attacking students all year deemed as favoritism? Dude literally saved the entire school from being shut down for the forseeable future. If the system was actually fair, Gryffindor should be winning the house cup every year for the next 7 years just because of this.

Most food in a grocery store should be sold frozen

I work in a grocery store. A large amount of food we sell arrives at the store frozen, and is then thawed out to be sold. For example, basically all bread in a grocery store arrives frozen and is thawed out before being put on the shelves. Unless you're shopping somewhere super fancy, the meat and seafood all arrives frozen too. In most places the only stuff that's never been frozen is fresh produce, dry goods, and liquids like dairy or juice (and some juice is frozen too actually).

The main reason this is done is just because people don't like the idea of buying frozen stuff and have a bias against it, but the product IS frozen. And when you take a loaf of bread or a pie and unfreeze it, suddenly it goes from lasting months to lasting a week before it goes moldy if it doesn't sell, which leads to tons of waste. I really feel like people need to just get over it and accept buying a loaf of bread that's frozen at the store and will be thawed out by the time you get home, instead of forcing the store to waste a bunch of food every week to trick people into thinking they're buying "fresh" food.

The only issue I'm not sure about is how much extra energy costs this would incur for the expanded freezers, but it would be at least partially offset by not needing to order new product as often to replace needlessly wasted food.
