Smoking

I appreciate that people who smoke cigarettes have to do so outdoors. But does it have to be outside my window?

There's this guy from the flat next door to mine who's a smoker, which is fine. But he smokes in the doorway and the smell wafts up to my room (I'm on the second floor). If I have my window open, my whole room starts smelling like cigarettes and it's really unpleasant. And I don't really want to have to close my window whenever this happens, especially because its been getting hot in my flat lately and I have a condition to do with overheating easily, so I really need air circulation.

Anyway smokers please don't flame me for this I would just like to politely request that you walk 20 steps towards the car park ...

Attendance

Does anyone know if we actually have to scan our keycard every lecture? Most people don’t even do it… Only for Probability1 was I told explicitly to do it. Does anyone know if they actually check attendance for everything?

Should I switch from maths to mathstats in my situation?

So pretty much, the maths workload is absolutely crushing me and if it only gets worse from here then I’m thinking I should switch sooner rather than later if I have the chance. Ik some ppl doing joint maths degrees like Morse and discrete and the way they describe the workload it seems so much more chill than mine but idk if this acc the case. If anyone can comment on how the workload is with mathstats and if it’s worth switching I’d appreciate it so much cos I’m not having the best time rn. Btw there isn’t much difference with employability if I switch right? Wait … is a switch even/still possible?

maths vs mathstat

Missed my warwick mathstat offer last year, so reapplying this year - only, i want to apply for pure math instead as I want the freedom of picking whatever modules I want, and it also looks better when applying to masters like Part III. I know i'm at a disadvantage since im resitting, and that the stats dept is more lenient, so by that regard applying mathstat would make more sense - but ya boy wants to apply for maths this timeee

Advice pls

Course Choice

I want to eventually get a job as a data scientist, data analyst or similar. I'm applying to Warwick but I'm unsure if i should do the data science course or the MORSE one as they are both similar being half maths and stats, but way more people take the MORSE course than the data science course. Which one should i apply for?

MORSE module choice

How relevant is taking the differential equations module in y1 for future module choices? i've heard ppl say that it limits you by a lot especially for finance... but i'm not sure just how true this is (it doesn't help that i can't figure out how to find the course handbook so that would also be v much appreciated)... is it worth overcatting? i was alternatively thinking of taking a language but i fear i might be too late to do that

Applications Optional module availbility

Hello, i am trying to decide between applying to economics politics and International Studies at warwick or LSE economics and economic history.

Due to the nature of my choices and what I want to do I have to choose between the two courses. LSEs course is more aligned to what I want to study - economics and history but it is in London so the day to day living may be worse, the academics may be more intense.

However Warwicks campus is better, I like how there is more of a community spirit. And the green-ness that is lacked in London (also cheaper but luckily thats not as much of an issue for me)

But the course is not necessarily what i want as I much prefer history and im not attracted by political theory though the international side of the course sounds appealing.

Im looking at this course because I dont want to do a purely mathematically focussed degree like pure economics and id rather split it up between more qualitative modules.

I saw on warwicks page fir the course that one could take 0-30 CATS in another subject in reality how possible would i be able to take that 30 CATS on history for 2/3 years and would it damage my degree.

For context:

Predicted 4 A*, Applying to oxford history and economics, St Andrews economics and modern history, edinburgh history and economics and durham combined honours in social sciences.

Im trying to decide between LSE and warwick and the optional modular availability for history study is a factor in it, sorry for the long post feeling quite worried. Thanks for your response and have a great day!

Warwick offers

Hi all, was just wondering when Warwick starts to give out offers for maths? Maths needs to wait until TMUA results are released in mid-november for people taking it early, but are offers given soon after (I'm thinking end of November to start of December) or do they wait for everyone to do TMUA in January before giving offers?

Similar question - for maths+stats (doesn't use TMUA) when are offers given out?

Trying to learn French (want help)

I'm a masters student that's just joined Warwick hoping to learn French in my own time. Go on any language learning website or resource and the top tip would be to increase immersion and interaction. I've got a schedule I hope I can adhere to but also want to use what will most likely be my last year at uni to full advantage and hopefully find someone I can learn by speaking to. Any recs on how I can find someone? Current thoughts are either joining French society or pure luck, naturally I'm leaning towards the pure luck route but hoping someone can show me the light.

Just a bunch of general questions. I am trying to create my uni priority list and would love to hear from students at those unis. (Econ and Business/Management)

thoughts on situation

Hi guys, my situation is a bit weird so itll take a bit of context to explain. Basically I got an offer from Warwick to study economics with the condition A*AA(which for the Irish system is H1, H1, H2, H2, H2, H2). I ended up only getting the 1 H1 and 5H2s (essentially half an A* and 2.5 A) and emailed Warwick saying look i missed my offer but I'd still love to study there my PS and extracurriculars are quite good and whatever. They ended up offering me a seat however due to some very last minute personal issues I couldnt leave Ireland this year so I asked for a deferral which they rejected. I have since joined University college Dublin studying economics but would like to reapply for Warwick next year. Considering I was a near miss, if i reapply and send them my uni transcript from my 1st semester would they automatically reject me because i was a little off the required grades or would they take into account they let me in last year and my uni grades (currently a 95% average) and would I still have a shot at getting in.

Sorry and thanks to anyone whos gone through the pain of reading this!

Applications Applying to MathStat and MORSE

Im hoping to apply for both courses at Warwick since Id enjoy doing both, but is there a risk if I apply for two courses at Warwick. Would it be okay since I believe they are programs run by different departments?

Accomodation Room Transfers

Can someone who's been through the room transfer process explain exactly how it works? You just complete the request form which will be open from the 12th I assume? What happens if you then no longer want to transfer?

Also if anyone wants to consider a swap, I'm a first year at Westwood and an ensuite, all girls flat is a non-negotiable for me. I'd also prefer to stay on campus and it not be too expensive.
