New Nasci, plus whining about fg knots.

Picked up a new Nasci 1000 today. Wanted a Miravel but I guess they’re not out yet? My Cabela’s is still selling old Miravel. Anywho, spooled it up with 6lb braid, they didn’t have any 4lb. Tied an fg knot to 4lb flouro leader and boy was that tough with my old ass eyes. I feel like I just performed microsurgery on hair. If anyone needs me I’ll be in the Doctor’s lounge.

Looking for recommendations on soft rubber flies

Post image

I was at the creek the other day and saw a horse fly get absolutely smoked by a Sunfish after it hung out by the surface of the water for a little too long. Looking for any recommendations you might have.

The one above is from eurotackle, looking for something that’ll float preferably.

New gear day

I got a little work bonus last month but I'm still a budget gear goblin so I put together some new setups for my girlfriend and I. We're big fans of creek stomping and river wading, so ultralight baitcasting is our gear preference. I'm also a slut for CDM/JDM tackle so obviously I went to aliex. I got myself a Loongze A51 paired with a Tsurinoya Dexterity II. I knew the Loongze was going to be ridiculous, but I really can't overstate how nice the reel is. Lightest spool on the market and phenomenal braking and all that, but truly the fit and finish is top fucking notch. The Dexterity II was a bit of a gamble, but I've been fishing a tsu Intruder all summer and love it to death so I knew the dex wouldn't be a let down - and it's absolutely not. I broke it in with a 1.2g micro spoon and it sent that thing into orbit, just no struggle to load the tip with that light weight whatsoever. I didn't have enough daylight to really push the lower floor, it handled a 0.5g jighead with a lil plastic just fine but I'll have to put it to the test this weekend.

My girlfriend's setup is an Ark Gravity BF-Avid because that's just the best reel at that price point hands down, and put it on a Mavllos Plume. Haven't tried it more than some dry casts but I fully believe when people say it's the best BFS rod for under $100. I personally would want something less whippy for bfs, this thing is a live one. It loads up incredibly well under a gram weight so I have a feeling I'm going to be borrowing her gear every so often.

First lil juvenile lmb on the new setup for attention, and a side note: I've never seen bass stack up on a hole behind a riffle like these lil guys were. I thought they were weirdly dark shad or something at first, but it was a school of bass picking off the shiners in this hole. Basically a boil of bait fish just jammed against the structure with a dozen dinks picking them off in the stream, they've been held there for the last few days after a big storm.

Some last min NY tropicals before they die off

NY gets little tropical fish every year because the Gulf stream pushes them in and they get stranded but unfortunately most of them do not get large enough to make the trip back. The sheepshead are a yearly resident though. We used to have large numbers of them years ago. NJ still gets a bunch of adults every year. These mangrove snappers are done for though when the water temps drop.

There was an army of needlefish today that were jumping out of the water after anything you cast out

Has anyone used these jig spinners before?

I went fishing with my dad the other day and he had one of these marabou jigs with a spinner in his tackle box. I liked the action a lot when I tried it out.

Anyone have experience with these in 1/16 or 1/32?

Spent way too long at bass pro and ended up with this combo. Found this sub a few days later and pleased to see from the comments and posts that I think I made a good choice. Been mostly using it to cast an ajustabubble and fly to bluegill and juvy largemouth and it’s been a blast. Running 4lb berk forward braid and 2lb berk vanish leader.

Question about braided line on ultra light spinning reel

Hey quick question here wondering if anyone puts 2-4 lbs braided line on their ultra light spinning reels, I’m going out creek fishing this weekend for trout and I always use 4lbs mono on my reel but never have a good experience with it due to the memory in the line wondering if braided line would be better or if it’s gonna be more of a shit show thanks for the tips

Edit: hey thanks everyone for the advice didn’t think so many people would respond, definitely switch my reel to braided line after the responses

Stocked trout and artificial lures.

The lakes around here are stocked with trout periodically.
Most folks use PowerBait or worms to catch them.
How well will they respond to artificials like Trout Magnets, spoons and inline spinners?

Ultralight fly rod?

I have a 5’6 3wt fly rod and I like to consider it as an ultra light setup. I usually run a 5lb to 2lb leader and fish small wolly buggers or dry flies. It’s an absolute blast, my bfs setups are collecting dust 😂 can fly rods be considered ultralight?

Bass on a Trout Magnet jig head with 1” Gulp! Minnow. Pike on a #1 Mepps rooster tail. Bass fought like hell. Pike gave up immediately and basically just went for a ride while I reeled in.

Which option do you think is best given the price performance warranty materials and the fact I’ll be using it for ultralight saltwater. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Jig head for Mule Fishing’s Horse Fly?

Anyone have a jig head recommendation for Mule Fishing’s Horse Fly bait? I feel like his 1/64 oz workhorse jig the hook is too big for that bait. I just ordered some I-fish 1g jig heads with a #10 size hook hoping that will work.

Dobyns Sierra Trout and Panfish 6-7 UL Rod for Inline Spinners

I’m torn between the Dobyns Sierra Trout and Panfish 6-7 UL and the TFO Trout-Panfish 2 6-6 U L rod. I really like the build quality of the Dobyns Rod, but have some reservations as everything that I have read appears to support that this rod shines for jigs, but may be a bad match for spinning due to the extremely fast/sensitive tip …I throw spinners 90% of the time. My questions are, do any of you throw spinners on this rod regularly? If so, what has been your experience with retrieval and hookset? Also, do you have issues trout fishing with this rod, as in the action may be too fast for the trout’s soft mouth? Finally, with the fast action are there any troubles keeping a fish pinned when using a spinner? Thanks for your time and expertise!

Help me fine tune my kit?

Just trying to narrow down or optimize my kit a little.

For easy streams, rivers, ponds, lakes all around the western US. I like this kit to be as versatile as possible, and useful for the most species. Anything im overdoing?

I have those two bobbers, a 3/8 oz and 3/4 oz. I also use the egg weights so I can have a fish finder rig. Two sizes for if I need a real long cast, or more currant/wind days. The hook is a size 6 inline circle with no barb.

I have never used soft plastics, and never once threw those trout magnets I have. Am I really missing out? The zyn tin sized plastic setups on here seem real nice.

Rod: Okuma Celilo UL M action 2-6lb line 1/32 - 1/4 lure

Reel: Shimano Sienna 1000

Line: Berkley x9 6lb braid

Ultimate budget ul setup

Ive finally picked the right setup for this rod that is budget friendly and cast amazing. Shakesphere Micro series 7’ Light-power, Shimano R2000 ix, and Daiso PE 0.3 6LB 4x braid line. I havent caught a fish yet on it but just the casting of a 1/8oz crankbait was amazing far. Total was around 50 dollars, 26 for the rod, 20 for the reel and 8 dollars for the 150yard braid. Braid is insanely thin.
