I accidentally made a dent in the bay door while trying to snag the ramp that was in front of it...

Any mail handlers care to chime in? Will they take my license away ? 😭

Work Discussion Carriers Vs. supervisors

I’ve heard some pretty messed up and crazy things said to supervisors at 8am and think, “oh boy you can’t say that, they’ll probably be fired” but see them the next day and a few days later it’s back to normal like nothing happened 😂😂 I was just curious, what are some of the most insane things you’ve heard a carrier tell a supervisor and get off Scott free

DISCUSSION How do you handle the stress?

Mild rant

I turned PTF back in April and I just get told all the time by supervisors that I'm too slow and I need to do better for peak season and they threaten to yell at me. I try not to let it get to me but I feel like all I do is make them angry because their numbers don't satisfy them. How do you all deal with shitty management?

Work Discussion Walking route

So I converted to regular last January and got an all walking route and it’s 12 miles long. Long story short I was a little over weight and I was pre diabetic with my a1c at 5.9 and it’s been 10 months I got rechecked and got this and no longer pre diabetic. Wasn’t just the walking I also quit drinking and the sweets.

Work Discussion Can someone please explain NML mail?

Another guaranteed period, another attempt at stealing money from rural carriers….

For the last week, we’ve been getting multiple trays of mixed mail with our DPS. Some days it’s been enough to add a full hour to our morning casing.

They’re telling us we don’t get paid 8127 time for it because it doesn’t count as raw letters. Because it has an NML tag on it.

So how is that call made at the plant? How do they justify sending 3 mixed trays per route out? I can’t show up to work and deliver half my route, so why is it okay for others to do it?

I don’t know how current the thing we have posted on the wall is, but it tells us that we’re supposed to get paid for anything that exceeds 125 pieces. Why is NML exempt from this?

It’s difficult to believe this isn’t a concerted effort on their part to keep our holiday OT rate reigned in.

Work Discussion Who at USPS reviews employee-developed software tools?

I’m a longtime clerk who’s been independently developing a few software tools to make some everyday postal tasks easier. I have working demos for things like delivery-route lookups, locating PO boxes, and tracking passport transmittals.

I’d like to find the right person or team within USPS to show them to and learn whether there’s a process for evaluating employee-developed tools.

I tried looking for IdeaSMART, the employee suggestion platform with peer voting, but haven’t been able to find it on LiteBlue. Does anyone know whether it’s still around or if something has replaced it?

Has anyone here had an idea or working prototype reviewed internally? I’d appreciate any suggestions for a department, program, or point of contact. If you have a specific contact you’d rather not post publicly, feel free to DM me.

Thanks!

Rural Carrier Discussion Whats the proper order of filing a rural grievance?

Is it:

A: 1. PM/Sup orders you to do something, 2. you do it, 3. file grievance later

or

B: 1. PM/Sup orders you to do something, 2. You grieve it, 3. wait for remedy

I have a feeling I will be filing a grievance soon so I just want to be sure.

Work Discussion Mail endrosements

Is writing "Return to sender" not a valid endorsement? I keep finding mail with that written on it in my DPS. I think the customers drop it off at the post office or in a blue collection box, and somehow it makes its way back. When I pick up mail with RTS on it from a customer's house, I'll add ANK to it.

Also, I have a customer who started leaving their mail sticking out of their front door's mail slot with "remove me from this list" written on each letter. The mail is addressed correctly to the people who live there. I guess they just don't want to receive it any longer. I pull it out, insert the day's new mail, and place the old one just like they left it. This cycle repeats for a few days. Either my T6 picks it up, or maybe they drop it off at the post office or at a collection box. I don't know. Anyway, this mail makes it back in my DPS. So I deliver it :) I'm sure it must drive them crazy that they can't get rid of this mail. This has been going on for a few months now. I would gladly explain to them what's going on, but I've never seen anyone there.

Work Discussion Last day in academy

Tomorrow is my last day of CCA academy and I cannot stress enough just how excited I am.

These last two weeks have been so incredibly boring (I have ADHD). And I am so ready to begin my OJT.

Any tips for a new carrier?

At first I was concerned he got stuck in there, but quickly learned there's a little hole he can get out (because he was back inside the next day) and also both I and the homeowner are cool with it. Been there about a month!

Makes every day better!

Work Discussion Rural POV routes drowning in Amazon

How are you handling your larger boxes too far away for a 2nd trip? My route just got full zip code Amazon and it’s been brutal. I just wanna know how you more seasoned people do it. I slip out the big ones, but 2 days of that and my small office starts piling up, and my customers are pissed because they “pay for prime” I’ve been doing 12 hours days for 4 weeks and I’m tired 😭

DISCUSSION Post master's behavior

I work for a post office in New Jersey in a town that serves itself and the neighboring town. I became a regular over a year ago and when I first did my shadow day and then the training there, I was debriefed about the post master. The longer I have been there the more things I have learned about him. He is extremely petty, vindictive, and very retaliatory. For example, a carrier and him had a disagreement about street time and mail volume I believe and he turned around and said he was going to walk that person. I have filled out a 3996 when I think I need it and they always disapprove it. I have coworkers on the overtime list and they told me if they get approved it's always under the time they need to do the pivots. We get handed pivots almost everyday and are expected back by the supervisors in 8 hours.

The union there doesn't push back against him too much because they don't want to be bothered with his petty behavior from what I was told. He walks around the work floor singing there's no mail or he is dancing on the work room floor where the skids are to put the relays. He puts packages on his head and dances around with them on. He pushes this narrative of undertime, that we don't have any mail some days, granted we do have a few light days but not all the time. He is on all the carriers about their uniforms and shoes and how they should dress professional and neat. He looks like a homeless man that just came out a trash can, he wears a winter hat year round, his clothes have stains on them, he is unshaven sometimes, he doesn't look like he brushes his hair either. Our office looks abandoned on the outside, we have bushes and miscellaneous weeds and different types of plants growing along the side of the office and up along the side of the building.

My question is, the behavior he displays is this normal for offices? Is he not responsible for the upkeep of the building? What can be done or is it not worth doing anything?

thanks

Clerk Discussion What all is in a T7 duties?

I got the T7 lead window clerk position early last year but I’m not allowed to do T7 duties. Management reasons are the previous T7 messed shit up so many times they don’t want to deal with that. They also don’t want me to leave the window but let everyone else and given many of them T7 duties like TACS using the excuse that I don’t have time to do them. Yeah I don’t have time BECAUSE YA’LL KEEP PULLING EVERYONE OFF THEN GRANTING THEM MY DUTIES

I’m just really fed up I keep asking everyone to teach me things like how to look up change of addresses and stuff but they won’t because they don’t want to come to the window and get chance to sit. I’m just so sick of it, I get yelled at all the time for not getting TACS done or not knowing how to do something but won’t give me the time to do it. I don’t know if filling a grievance will do anything I’m just tired of the disrespect

Rural Carrier Discussion PM told me to drive 40mi/50min to help at another office AFTER i finished my route

I’m an RCA past my 90 days. My PM called me at the end of my route and told me that assistance was needed at an office 40 miles/50 mins away after i was finished. I said absolutely the fuck not. She said that she’d let me slide today but that she “might require me to go tomorrow/saturday if assistance is needed.” i’m already working both of those days at my home office.

This genuinely feels fucking ridiculous to me. Am i contractually obligated to do this after working a full day? When it wasn’t originally scheduled? Can i get out of this by just not answering my phone when she calls tomorrow? I’ve texted my union rep and am waiting to hear back. I’ve never been sent to that office and never been trained on any of those routes.

Work Discussion first year on the job, pay adjust has taken about 8 months. any options?

As the title says, I am a new-ish as in I don't really know the in and out of my position/rights. I have contacted the union multiple times, they claim some tickets have been submitted, someone from accounting has looked into the issue a few times.

Any advice? thanks

Work Discussion Yeesh. How do you think your postmaster would react?

If you are a postmaster, how would you handle the situation? I quit before my 90 was up due to unforeseen mental health decline but my postmaster seemed extraordinarily helpful and willing to work with others, if a little absent-minded sometimes.

Rural Carrier Discussion RCA doing city routes

Everytime I come in I'm always doing some beef for a city route and only rarely do one for rural. Even on Saturdays I still get a city beef that's either one complex or half the route. My probation period ends later this month but it's been feeling like they just dump whatever the city carriers won't or can't do onto me and then get mad when I can't finish it within whatever bullshit time they make up for me.

Spoke to my regular about it n shes saying I should add more rural routes to my thing thru the matrix. The supervisors don't tell me anything cuz they apparently don't know how their own office works.
