Mct injury advice

So basically I got done with boot camp not too long ago, long story short I did something to my knee. Shit hurt all cycle, it’s hard to fully extend and squat on. Got to mct two weeks ago said nothing about the pain, ended up being put in mat due to there being not enough space in the female platoon. I never got checked out for it in boot because I feared staying. I got picked back up today and now I’m wondering whether or not I say something to medical tomorrow. I mainly don’t wanna get stuck in Lima, would love another two weeks in mat to recover but idk if I can swing that. Also don’t know if I should just push through. Any input is appreciated

Take care of your body now. Your body will thank you later.

Some day you'll be out of the Corps and they won't give a shit about you.

Go to medical now.

Like they give a shit now???

Every body is just a number on a TO&E

Yeah, but the VA won't process a claim without evidence. When you need that full replacement surgery in 10 years, you'll be happy you went to medical.

Oh for sure...

I'm just saying there has always been this mentality about people caring about what their leadership or the corps thinks of them and not wanting to "look weak or like a slacker going to sick call"...

But honestly... we are all/were all, just inventory numbers

No one would think twice about marking a piece of inventory as broken or needing repair. It doesn't mean the item was shit to begin with...well... mostly

Definitely get that shit documented

Go to Medical and get it checked out. Your health is more important than your service. It sounds like you tore your ACL

I had a knee injury in bootcamp. My MCL was the size of a tennis ball and I refused to go to medical due to fear of being dropped. I still have knee pain/problems almost 7 years later. If I had gone to medical like I should’ve I might have been able to get it treated and healed correctly. Fuck “DBAB” go to medical and get treated. Unless you’re malingering it should be your top priority to be seen

Get it checked out as soon as possible.

Even if they don't have the resources or the care to fix you completely, you need the documentation.

Be persistent, be annoying until you feel like you got the proper care.

So many of us left boot camp with moderate injuries and proceeded to thug it out until it became permanently fucked up.

Even if your knee recovers, you're putting extra pressure on your other joints to take up the slack. You will wear out everything else to compensate. Trust me I know.

Go to medical! I broke my pelvis in boot and didn’t get seen for it until I got to my A-school, all because I also didn’t want to get stuck on the island. 20 years later and I’ve got chronic pain in both my legs/hips and bad sciatica because it threw off my gait for so long.

I would get it checked sooner than later. Doing Mct hikes and other shit would likely just end up with a longer stay in Lima later on. I spent like a week in Lima after getting rhabdo in itb, it’s not the greatest place to be but if you just keep your head down and heal it’s not too bad. A serious knee issue will not get better with time.

get that shit documented and taken care of before it gets worst!

Get it taken care of ASAP. If you're in the reserves, even if you tough it out and push through MCT and graduate, if there's no documentation while you're on active duty you will not be able to get it taken care of by Uncle Sam.

I injured my ankle in bootcamp. Got to SOI and went to medical. They put me in the Medical Rehab platoon. I spent 5 absolutely miserable months there. The doctor's appointments consisted of "are you ready to go back to training yet?". I was not permitted to do any exercise to try to strengthen it, so while the swelling went down, it got more unstable over those 5 months. When a doctor finally put me in for an MRI to find out what had actually happened to it, my SNCOIC cancelled the appointment and put me in for an AdSep. I didn't know what it was or what options I had, I was ordered to sign the papers and was discharged in a matter of days. Because I never went through the medical review board (that I didn't know existed) I lost out on a number of benefits.

If I had it to do all over again, I would have done my best to gut my way through training and then reported it when I got to the fleet.

Granted, this was 23 years ago, so maybe things have gotten better. Maybe your injury will heal up on it's own just fine. I'm not telling you what to do, but I wanted to share what happened to me.

i don’t know man, i’d fight that and get your discharge upgraded, get those benefits. You can get a lawyer pro-bono who help vets with this, I currently am.

Is there a particular group you went through for this? I tried on my own years ago and got nowhere.

Fuck, go to medical. I work with veterans to get their claims and the amount of veterans that didn't go to medical for whatever fear is crazy. I can't say much because I didn't go to medical till my last year and went like every week lol. Please take care of your health, if mct takes longer, so be it.

I pushed through injuries because that’s what marines do.

Now at 34 everything hurts when it rains and I have to do yoga daily just to be able to comfortably put on my shoes.

Go. To. Sick call.

Get. It. Documented.

Claim. That. Shit. When. You. Get. Out.

I took almost a month in mat to heal up enough from a boot camp injury. Take care of yourself.

Go to medical because you have no idea what this will be like five or ten years from now. Speaking from experience.

Take it from me take care of your body. I screwed up my knee and luckily I went to Medical. The Unlucky side is all they gave me was ibuprofen and told me to run and until hurts. After a few years then the other knee started hurting from running sideways. Went back to Medical and all they did was an x-ray and told me I was faking it and to go back.

Fast forward 20 plus years and apparently I have multiple meniscus tears that were undiagnosed. I developed plantars fasciitis from walking funny. Plus I've got issues in one of my toes and an Achilles injury. Whilel trying to rehab these I end up tearing my hip. Now I've got these oversized braces that cause myalgia parasitica.

My dream is to sleep through the night or even to walk to the mailbox without pain!

Go to medical. (26 Fun Filled Yrs USMC). Be honest with the pain, range of motion, can/cannot do things. Get in your medical record. It pays off later with the VA.

I had a knee injury in MOS school. Went to medical, was put on LD, let it heal. Was able to graduate on time from MOS School and hit the fleet.

Go to medical. Don't let it get worse.
