Hello i’m a High school senior planning to apply to University of Rochester, I visited the school earlier this week and the campus was beautiful, my main purpose of attending this school is that i’m on the pre med track for the amazing hospital and medical school.
A few of my concerns about the school is that i noticed there is not a lot of diversity from what i saw since i am black, the dorms, and the guides weren’t as clear as i need them to be about what i should expect from this school especially with the pre med aspect.
I’d really love the help from people currently attending to give me advice and their first hand experiences. Please let me know everything thank you think i should before applying to this school early decision, thank you!

The place that I have an interview at is open until 3am and my availability is pretty tough if I didn’t accept late shifts. Before I commit to it though I would like to hear whether or not this is safe. I’m a 18yr old girl btw so I feel like that changes things. I have walked to college town during the day and felt okay but at night might be different.
edit: I got the job so I’m gonna have to figure something out! I might walk once and see how it goes and then after that if I feel unsafe either cut through the hospital and use safe ride or walk back through the cemetery side 😀
edit 2: I’m still trying to decide what to do. Safe ride also isn’t available during breaks and I’ll be working then too so not sure what my best bet is 😭

I'm a Senior in High School hoping to get accepted, and I want to know what Winters are actually like.
I've never lived in a place that snows. Currently, I live in Southern California. However, I spent 13 years of my life living in Taiwan, and also 10 months living in New Zealand.
I want to experience what living somewhere that receives significant snow. But based on what I heard, it's gonna be very miserable, and I'm gonna regret wanting to leave Southern California. Is this true? What is it really like?

If you’re doing a BM at Eastman and a BA at the River Campus, what is like?
How many times a day do you commute between the two campuses?
Which one do you live at?
Do you really graduate in 5 years?

For those who did the 12 month ABSN, were you able to find somewhat flexible housing where you could tack on a prorated month or 2 to the end of a 12-mo lease? As I understand it, after you graduate, it might take a month or so to take the NCLEX and get your RN license. But with a 12-mo program and a 12-mo lease, that sounds like you might have to pack up and move while studying for the NCLEX or even before graduation... Sounds stressful! How did you do it? Seems like a 14-mo lease would be ideal? Any advice?

Hi everyone!
I applied early action for the UoR Summer ‘27 12m ABSN program and have been anxiously checking the application portal every day for updates 😅
I haven’t seen any posts yet for this cohort, so I thought I’d start one! It would be great to connect with other applicants and share any updates we receive regarding application statuses/decisions.
Good luck to everyone applying! ☺️

This is pretty random, and I know this is probably a long shot, but I’m trying to find a guy I used to see at the UR gym pretty often last semester.
He’s pretty tall, around 6'3", with black hair and dark eyes. He almost always wore white Air Force 1s, and I usually saw him at the gym sometime around 8:30–9 pm, though I’m not totally sure about the exact time.
We ran into each other a bunch of times and talked once, but I never got his name or contact info.
I don’t go to UR anymore, so I figured I’d try Reddit.
If anyone knows who I’m talking about, feel free to send him this post. And if he sees this, he can DM me.
Also, please excuse my English if anything sounds a little awkward — English is my second language :)

I’m alumni of UofR and noticed that I don’t see the fraternity Sigma Alpha Mu listed in anything Greek life related. Out of curiosity are they not on campus anymore?

I'm a senior in HS interviewing with URoch tomorrow. For those who have interviewed, what questions did they ask? What are they looking for? I think my interviewer is a student, if that changes anything. This is my first college interview and I really liked the school when I toured, so I'm really nervous haha. Any advice would be much appreciated!
Edit: It went great! The interviewer was super nice and conversational. Tysm for the advice.

Yes, there's REMS, but there's also Comp Med:
It's an early assurance partnership with Sidney Kimmel School of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson. Good med school in the heart of Philly with a guaranteed research opportunity one summer (funded) prior to matriculation and through med school (not funded but go get those pubs). Much better chance of getting in to med school than regular applicant by a huge margin. I'd say going from <5% to like 30% as an estimate (don't sue me). Also, don't need to take the MCAT. Most people who meet the requirements and apply get in every year
Requirements:
Take advantage of this.
Good luck

My son is very interested in attending U of R.
Curious for some feedback from others. What made you choose to attend?
I believe UR is at a very interesting university when looking at it from outside. It’s a tier 1 research institution. Its AAU member. Endowment per student is great. Mid-size is a perk. Campus size is appealing. Top music school. Top STEM. It’s got acceptance rate that is reasonable.
However, it’s hardly mentioned alongside other top prestige schools. It’s T50 school. It seems to get compared to Case Western Reserve which is similar to UR where it’s an excellent school but doesn’t get mentioned alongside other elites.
Are student body similar to type of students who attend competitive T20 schools?
To me, from what i gather, UT is like other top institutions but get punished for being located in Rochester where it’s a rust belt city. I like that school feels like a secret or overlooked but excellent.
Maybe my perception though is totally off as I don’t live in the northeast where I’m sure UR is more well known than where I’m at in PNW.
Sorry, rambling a bit but wanted to get some of your feedback on why you chose UR.

How is the grading environment? Are there typical grade distributions or curves, and is there any limit on how many students can receive an A?

I’m applied to Rochester as a transfer and have heard some financial aid horror stories
part of the reason I applied was because Rochester meets full need but other have said their needs weren’t met
can anyone share their story about the aid they received or give me an estimate
my parents make around 117000 together
5 person household
first generation

We are working on a documentary about Rochester and in search of college bands and dance groups to feature in the film. If this is you, send us a DM introducing yourself with links to your work. Thanks!

title
it's just stated vaguely in their website (or maybe i'm just slow), so i'm asking here to confirm
from what i understand - UR is need blind (i.e. me being poor doesn't affect the chances of me getting in) and is full need met (i.e. IF i get in, then i'll get all the aid i require) ?
thanks
EDIT - i emailed them and they said that they are need aware, not need blind. it's weird that they don't mention this clearly on their website, but i might just be nit-picking
