Module overloading?
hi! i’m a new UOW offshore student studying the Bachelor of Business Information Systems (BBIS) through SIM Singapore.
i unfortunately missed orientation, and SIM’s responses regarding the course structure haven’t been very detailed, so i was hoping to hear from other UOW students.
so a general idea is that i’ve been automatically enrolled into 2 subjects this term, which i understand is the standard load (12 credits per term). but has anyone been allowed to overload and take 3 subjects per term instead?
one of the main reasons i’m actually considering this is due to financial considerations as an international student. so i’m hoping to explore whether taking on a slightly heavier workload of 3 subjects per term would be possible, rather than extending my studies and the associated costs for longer than necessary.
definitely not assuming i’ll be allowed to tho as i can’t really seem to find info on this but wondering if anyone has done this before and what the process was like. 😭

12 cp per session is part-time study.
You were most likely enrolled into your core subjects and still need to select your electives.
Also from memory (I could be wrong), you will need to contact SIM as UOW is different.

ahh thank you!! that might actually be the case 😭 i’m still quite confused about how the SIM-UOW structure works since i applied for full-time study but was only automatically enrolled into 2 subjects. i’ll definitely check with SIM whether i’m supposed to select additional subjects/electives myself. thank you for explaining!! may i also ask what programme you’re studying and how many subjects you normally take per session?

I'm actually ex-staff. But I left afew years ago so my knowledge could be a little out dated but I can't imagine it's changed much.
The UOW/SIM relationship is odd as SIM do things operate a little different and staff at UOW (Wollongong) probably can't help as much.
However, UOW generally wants you to look through the handbook and enrol yourself into subjects through Moodle. But again, dont take my advice as concrete and contact SIM to make sure.

Definitely reach out to SIM. Other answers here for 24 credits per term may be based off UOW's standard session structure, which is 2 sessions per year, but given you mentioned you have 4 sessions a year 12 credits might be considered full time.

Not sure about your specific situation, but most students take 24 credit points per term, which is considered a full time load. 12 credit points is a part time load.
