GPEW Climate Popularism: Caroline Lucas & Rupert Read on Winning Back the Public

GPEW The surge is over: Average polling 4% down year on year.

A common mistake in this sub is talk about the "Green Party surge". There was a surge but it doesn't describe the current moment. The currency which matters isn't the number of party members but the support amongst the voting public.
9% in average polling is good by historic standards. This is not a disaster but it is entirely inline with the average polling the party had after the 2024 general election. It is also true that this is quite a bit higher than what was normal before that general election (~5% was common).
I believe strongly that this continuation of a belief that the party is in a surge is enabling poor choices and poor judgements to be made.
I also believe that a party which elucidates how fossil fuel dependency creates economic vulnerability should be doing well precisely now. It should be a party against dependency on fossil fuels which profits when inflation is soaring due to dependency on fossil fuels.
In addition I believe attributing this to Burnham's rise is an oversimplification. The decline started a long time before Starmer was displaced by Labour. What's more Labour's support has only increased by 1% since the start of August. The Green Party's support has declined by 3%.

Discussion Environmental Breakdown and Inflation Management: A socio-ecologicalunderstanding
ucl.ac.ukGreat working paper out of UCL.
Very clearly challenges the mainstream consensus on inflation management and explains the dynamics of ecologically-induced supply-side inflationary shocks. It then says how inflation management must involve a wider set of fiscal and industrial policy tools for short term and long term stabilisation.
This is well aligned with party policy now.
Now that conference passed C05: Fiscal referees (briefing paper) into policy, the Green Party is the only political party even close to having an up to date economic framework to meet the challenges we face that this paper explores so well.
Our job as a party is to convince the country that fundamental change to how the government conducts economic policy is necessary.
