Moving/Visiting Weekly /r/Tulsa Megathread

Are you moving to Tulsa? Just visiting or passing through? Want to know where to live, eat, hang out, have fun, or bury the bodies? This is the place to ask.

This will be a weekly megathread that evolves over time. As members of r/Tulsa make suggestions or answer questions that come up a lot, we may add those items to the body of the post for easy reference. But for right now this is a place to ask any questions you may have about moving to or visiting Tulsa, OK, where our motto is "We're more than just OK, we're living the dream."

General What’s the best thing to do in this situation

First, I’m not looking for criticism or negative comments, I just really want to know what the best thing to do is. This morning I went to QuikTrip and driving there I saw I guy doing twirls on 71st. I just kind of drove past but then I saw him almost walk into the intersection. He backed up started praying. I went in the store and he was in the parking lot. He stopped me and several others with a story about his eye and he read the Bible and because he has an eye he is John. I listened to him and then noticed that he had no shoes and it was raining and his socks were soaking wet. Then he asked me if I had a medical marijuana card because he really needs some sativa. I assume this was a drug issue but I was kinda worried about him. I didn’t want to call the police because he’s probably going through a lot as it is. Is there someplace here that you can call that would just check on people like this? I just think he needs help

Three more of our skeletons were stolen overnight, 2 Ring cameras managed to completely miss it. Bolder this time, as it happened around 11:40 pm. We wanted to believe that the first was just an isolated incident but clearly not so the surviving two have been taken down. Oh well 🤷‍♂️

Edit: one of the Ring still shots captures someone laying in the front yard but nothing useful. I posted it below. If nothing else let the be a useful lesson for people with Ring and Vivint and others: they are nice tools for awareness but the are NOT security systems and are exceedingly unlikely to provide any useful evidence in criminal cases. Earlier this year the front porch Ring completely missed a lady running over a guy in my front yard!

Edit 2: Fine mods, I'll post the update here:

Update to the Great Skeleton Caper

When our first skeleton was stolen a neighbor stopped by with video showing the same guy stealing his trash can. We'll just a moment ago the same neighbor stopped by again to let us know that the now-jerseyless QB is on display in a front yard not far from our house, still holding the football! Also on display are a variety of other decorations including a orange foam fake tombstone that was also stolen with the QB.

All that said, I'm really unsure what to do now. Direct confrontation risks escalation that may not be worth the hassle but involving police seems to pose even greater risk. You just never know how someone might react to being confronted and is it really worth it?

Question Comics artists/creators in Tulsa?

Post image
• Upvotes

This might be a long shot, but I'm curious if there are any other comics artists or creators around here? Ive been thinking that it might be nice to meet up and draw and talk shop with some folks, but I haven't seen any indication of a comics scene around here.

26y/o, looking to make some friends in Tulsa area to play and/or write music with. I have background in piano, drums, and guitar. My favorite genres are mainly pop/rock/indie/singer-songwriter, but I am open to anything. I work full-time, so just looking for something a few times a week. I have loved music since I was a kid and want to keep the flame alive. Send me a DM!

Some of my favorite songs: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0pCqNFGTmVcLG90isFZO8i?si=PYx7PBIORQ2CeqDfyxC1fA&utm_source=copy-link

Picture is me hiking because I like that too.

Tulsa Events Practical Magic + crafting tonight at Circle Cinema (bring your knitting!)

Hey Tulsa! Calling all the knitters, crocheters, cross-stitchers, and coloring book people.

Tonight at 7pm we’re showing Practical Magic (1998) for Reel Crafts, our craft-friendly film series with our neighbors at Community Craft in Kendall Whittier. The lights stay half up the whole movie so you can actually see what you’re working on.

A few details:

  • Bring any quiet project you’ve got going (knitting, beadwork, embroidery, coloring, whatever)
  • Don’t have one? Community Craft will have craft kits for sale in the lobby before the film starting at 6:30pm
  • Mary Make & Do from Community Craft will introduce the movie at 7pm
  • Tickets are $11 for members, $13 for everyone else

This one was such a hit last October that it’s officially an annual spooky season tradition now, so grab tickets before it sells out.
