thinking about doing travel nursing, specifically for the life style.

Has anyone else gone into nursing specifically for the lifestyle that travel nursing brings? The idea of working for 3 months then taking 3-6months off and repeat sounds like a job I would be so interested in doing. I was in school for engineering, but I’ve realized that the lifestyle I want is to be able to travel and take months off at a time to visit countries and meet new people! I don’t care about money too much, as 15k usd goes very far in other countries i’ll be living in for 3-6 months. I’m 21, single and will never have kids as well. So I’m wondering if i should do this. I know nursing is a real stressful and tough career, and ik i’ll have to get 2 years of exp before hand. But I think i could do it, if i had 6 months of traveling to look forward too.

Would love any advice and or cristism on my thinking.

Hello fellow travelers! Any recommendations for a place to stay for me, my husband, and our cats? I'm finding pet-friendly places difficult to find.

hi! does anyone have any info specifically on this floor? my bf and i are applying to our second travel contract, he has experience in MS/Tele and got a contract to this unit which was listed as MS/tele. but during his phone interview it seemed more like neuro step down with post craniotomies and flaps. The manager is aware he doesnt have much neuro experience besides floating to neuro med surg, she said theyre willing to help him learn. Is this okay to accept? If it was listed as MS/Tele it must mean its manageable for someone w ms/tele experience correct? i know each unit has some different things to learn but if his team is helping him learn any different drain, that might be helpful. Thanks!

UNM Med Surg?

Hi! I’m looking to sign on for a med surg position at university of new mexico. My recruiter said he has other nurses there that have extended a bunch and like it (aside from those in ERholding positions). On the other hand though, I’m seeing only bad reviews here on reddit. Obviously i’d trust reddit more than my recruiter ;) lol but they are old posts from 1+ year ago. Does anyone have any more recent experience specifically on med surg floors?

That being said I’m coming from University of colorado where there’s a big shortage and we’re always flexing up to 6 at night.. so i’m kinda used to it at this point but idk if i want to do this for another 13 weeks 😭.

My pay would be higher and rent would be cheaper there than here.. so weighing pros and cons i guess. I love NM, skiing at taos, and mild winter weather.. but is it worth a shitty assignment? idkkkkk

thanks in advance homies!!

I bought some straight

Schedule and Pay

Hey! I'm in the last few weeks of my travel contract (MRI, not a nurse). I narrowly avoided getting massively fucked over by medical solutions on their BS predatory RTO policy, I.e. not paying you for most of the week even if you only take 1 day off. I had the RTO removed from my contract and worked with the manager to get my days off anyway.

The problem is I asked her to not schedule me on my last day of the contract, a Saturday, as I'm flying out the very next day (no, leaving later is absolutely not an option). I asked her to put me on for a different day and she didn't so I'm only scheduled to work 24 out of 36 hours Wednesday and Thursday that week. I was going to ask her if there's any availability that week but looking at the schedule it looks completely full as they've hired more people. Should I bother asking her for a third day or just let it ride? Will medical solutions fuck me out of 3 plus days of stipend or you think it'll be cool? I don't wanna ask my recruiter and alert them to any schedule discrepancies since they take that as a green light to rob you. TIA

Health insurance

Hello all, what are some staffing agencies that provide pretty good health insurance coverage and the premium is not like $1000 per month 😭? My previous staffing agency had very bad health insurance plan, the indemity plan I signed up on my own also don't have good coverage. Please share your top 1-3 agencies and about how much premium you paid for. Thanks!

Applying for staff positions while also trying to get a travel position at a hospital

Is this a big no no? Planning on moving out of state and was going to do a travel contract to start and then get a staff position or extend my contract. My worry is if I don’t get a travel contract, then I have nothing to fall back on and will be delayed/unemployed longer than anticipated.

It would be med surg position for travel contract BUT

IMC/ICU Staff positions at the same hospital. So I wouldn’t be applying for med surg positions.

Compliance won't release my UDS results?

I am currently talking with my recruiter and I just need a past UDS result for my records. I HATE when companies/healthcare in general do this, especially when there is a FEE. like, this is MY health/bodily fluids and I should know what it says. Is this legal or what is the reason?

Signing Staff

Does anyone have any insight on signing staff when you’ve been at a facility for maybe 6 months? Is that allowed? Worried about IRS rules on taxing with stipends. Thanks!

Communication with Amergis/BFair

Edit: Realized I should’ve opened/specified that I’m in MA for this location

I made a similar post a few weeks ago regarding Amergis, as I’m currently in the process of getting everything settled with potentially getting hired. But has anyone else who has worked for Amergis or was in the process of being hired had crappy or not ideal communication with your recruiters/others?

Basically, my previous recruiter that I was with got a new job offer so he wasn’t able to continue working with me, so I got a new one. I’ve been updating her the last week or two on me getting the irl necessities such as physical, TB test etc. Calls me last Thursday to set up my in-person interview (this Friday at 12:30pm), I also send her a text and image of my completed online CPR certification this past Friday evening. Don’t hear anything back during the weekend, Monday rolls along, same with yesterday, nothing, so I send her a text this morning to also wonder where in specific I’m going for my interview. Few hours later, get a call and then voicemail from her manager that she’s out the rest of this week and wanting to confirm if I was still good for this Friday’s interview. Completely unbeknownst to me that she was out this week completely/she will be out the rest of this week.

Essentially, I had no idea she was going to be out the rest of this week (if it was something that happened today or yesterday) as she never updated me on it, and I just got something today from her manager. Along with me not having any information on where exactly I’d be going for my interview, if I’m going to be meeting anyone in specific for it, if I need to bring anything else, etc. Which has made me a bit annoyed and frustrated for lack of communication and information given.

Anyone else have had similar experiences? ‘Cause I’m genuinely curious or if this is only exclusive to me with regards to today.

Tl;dr, In the process of getting hired with Amergis/BFair, complete their necessary steps, get a new recruiter in the midst of it, and get notified today after barely any other prior communication that she’s going to be out the rest of the week with no info on where to go for the interview.

CO extension drug test?

I’m currently working in CO and am submitting for an extension. I have been partaking in THC edibles to sleep. Is it possible they are going to drug test me again for the extension? I’m really worried about not passing even with it being legal here. Thanks

Going staff after a contract?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am currently with TNAA/Totalmed. I want to go back to a facility I worked at through them. I have been gone from the facility for well over 90 days but still work for TNAA/Totalmed. The wording of the contract is confusing at best about whether this is allowed. I have spoke with a couple other nurses who work with TNAA/Totalmed and we all have different interpretations of what it says. One says that since I am past the 90 days, I'm good. My reading, I interpret as I cannot work at any facility I've ever worked at with them until 90 days post termination of any work with them. A third nurse reads it as you cannot work anywhere period for 90 days. I'm pretty sure the third reading is wrong, but I could see how they could get that from it. I have Legal Shield for contract review as a benefit through TNAA but they cannot advise me since the plan is through TNAA. I am specifically looking at the second paragraph of Article 5 Section A in the attached picture.

Has anyone here ever gone staff after working a contract at a facility for TNAA/Totalmed? If so, was there any issues? I'm trying to get this sorted out but of course they make it difficult. Any help is appreciated!

Weekend requirements?

I accepted my first travel nurse contract in the ED. My recruiter had said that you typically are required to work every other weekend, but nowhere in the contract is that listed. I asked her again for clarification and she said I wouldn’t know until I spoke with the scheduler after my first week. I currently have a full time staff job where I work three weekend days a month and they said they would be willing to give me a per diem position. However, the per diem position requires a weekend shift. Is it typical to work all or most weekends as a traveler? What has your experience been in the past with weekend requirements?

Cooperman Barnabas Medical Cente

Hi everyone! Has anyone worked as travel nurse at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center specifically in Labor & Delivery?

I'm considering a day-shift contract and would love some honest feedback. Is the unit travel-nurse friendly? How's the work environment, staffing, management, and overall unit culture?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Away from bedside for 2 years, could I still get a contract?

Hi everyone!

I have been away from the bedside for 2 years now. My specialty was Med Surg. I was going to travel but burnt out and have been working as a school nurse now the last few years.

I still have an itch to travel but I don’t think I’d be able to secure a travel hospital positions since I’ve been away for 2 years from the bedside. Is my only option to look into travel school nurse positions at this point?

Thank you!!

Maternity leave/UNEMPLOYMENT claim

Hello I would like advice please.

-- My contract is ending in 5 few weeks

-- I was offered an extension

-- But baby is due in 12 weeks

I have no short term disability, fmla, maternity nothing.

- I hope to apply for unemployment to help during my time off for a few months (I won't claim for weeks during labor/recovery)

Do you think the unemployment claim will be denied since they offered me an extension and I have no good cause to turn it down?

Anyone else encounter this situation?
