The Tragically Hip Didn’t Need America’s Permission.
From Canadian Youtuber - Rock n Roll True Stories
Today I learned that Road Apples was supposed to be a double album. Not surprising since the "leftovers" on Saskadelphia are all excellent and could've been beloved Hip classics had they been on the album.

SCHOOL OF HIP (ep. 23): Get ready for GEDFest 2026!
SCHOOL OF HIP (ep. 23): Get ready for GEDFest 2026!
https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/school-of-hip/id1853343538?i=1000796060631
In this episode your School of Hipsters talk GEDFest, the annual concert series and cancer-smashing fundraiser held in honour of the late, iconic Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie (full name Gordon Edgar Downie, hence the GED!)
Now in its 9th year, GEDFest, which began as a grassroots Calgary event, has blossomed into a 12-city cross-Canada blitz with gigs from Vancouver to St. John's, Newfoundland, between October 16 and 24. The growing festival has even expanded into the U.S. with the first ever American GEDFest to be held Oct. 21 in Buffalo, NY.
All GEDFest shows are headlined by some of North America's finest Tragically Hip tribute acts. To date the event has raised $732K for cancer charities and this year they're aiming to cross the $1M mark!
Our guests for the show are GEDFest founder Keith Dyck - who also happens to be the drummer in Calgary-based Hip tribute Trickle Down - and Sarah J (Sara Jachimiak) of the popular Dropped Among This Crowd (DATC) podcast, who is organizing the Buffalo show.
See gedfest.ca for all the concert dates and ticket info, with shows in Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Vancouver, Kelowna, Cochrane, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Toronto, St. John's and Buffalo, NY!
Get your Hip on while sticking it to cancer. Sounds like a helluva night to us!

"That Night In Toronto" live stream - This Friday 10/16 on Twitch at 7:00pm ET
Hey folks! I am, yet again, continuing my yearly tradition of celebrating Gord Downie and The Hip by live streaming "That Night In Toronto" - The Hip's live DVD from 2005 - this upcoming Friday, October 16th over on my Twitch channel (http://www.twitch.tv/witheryouth).
My plan is to go live on Twitch sometime around 7:00pm ET with a pre-roll of various related Tragically Hip clips and content, then starting the DVD at around 7:30pm ET.
For background, I've been doing this live stream yearly on or around October 17th since about 2021 mostly as a way to host a small celebration myself, but have been extending it to folks online to share the experience. The Hip have been uploading some songs from this DVD onto their YouTube channel, but the full thing isn't up yet AFAIK so this is a fun way to view it!
You don't need a Twitch account to watch, but you do need an account if you want to comment. The entire runtime is just over 2 hours at 24 songs in the setlist. Sometimes Twitch plays ads but I don't have a way of controlling that unfortunately. I promise this isn't an ad for my Twitch, I quite literally stream this DVD once a year over on that channel lol! But if you're interested in watching and want the push notification reminder that the stream is starting, you can follow the channel and feel free to unfollow right after.
Some other folks from the Tragically Hip Discord server will probably be tuned in as well! You can always join us over here: http://www.discord.gg/cCawefY

First live record-lyrics
Pretty sure it’s grace, too. He’s digressing in song… (I’m paraphrasing) something about a buddy telling him that he’s on a hopeless road with no end in sight and gord sings “I can swear there’s a bend … I can swear there’s a place where all those ribs will be mended and you can never be too dependent and everyone around you is smiling and everyone around is styling and you’ve got nothing to worry about” and he fades off repeating, with increasing weakness, “you got nothing to worry about” and the whole thing is so beautiful and so full of love - like he was reaching out to someone he really loved but couldn’t really help - it’s so intense. Stakes feel so high. Like Gordie is begging the guy to hang in there. And yet, by the end, it’s like gordie is struggling to believe his own good news.
That’s why I love this music still. You can feel gord and the boys really reaching out…for this roads with no bend. No end.
This time of year has grown colder. So many autumn deaths. In some ways I appreciate my remaining loved ones all the more but also realize how quickly they can be taken.
It took me years to be able to listen to the music and there’s a tinge of sad and a boatload of bittersweetness but no matter what, the leaves turn so bright and colorful before turning brown and brittle. I think it’s the perfect month for remembering his end.
I truly am so jealous of you Canadians and would give almost anything to be part of your big village. I didn’t properly appreciate how well served he had been to be born there. If i somehow found a huge bag of greenbacks, I’d move up there in an instant. Ih who cares but yeah. The live record…we’ve got nothin to worry about.
You know what though? I have a heavy heart to think about gordie in terms of romantic love. Like…from the songs it sounds like he … like that didn’t work out. But then he got the cancer diagnosis and we read that him and Mrs blue eyes got back together after another final breakup and I’m sure she loved him at the end. Even though paul was taking him to radiation treatment. No matter. Just sounded like he loved a dame he could not please and he just accepted that he was inferior for being a man and kept trying anyway. Which is smart for a woman married to a rock star. Be the only dame who’s not interested and have lots of babies.
All I know is that he is loved now…and I can’t believe how much I miss him even though he was on the other side of the screen. But I’ll never forget how brave Madge was-calling him at 3 o’clock in the morning. And other times. Do lines were blurred but wow. What a great time - and I will forever be grateful for Madge. To have a hip fanatic as a best friend was such a blessing. And the band played all around Pittsburgh. Toledo to Washington DC. state college. Cleveland. Ann arbor. Baltimore. Philly. NYC. Erie. BUFFALO. Toronto. 6 flags somewhere. Drove to all. So lucky to see in Europe. Red Deer. He kept forgetting the lyrics. Calgary, from the phantom zone.
I just discovered the lumineers. Mainly the III record about addiction and comes with a 40 minute video that tells the stories of the songs. Like we always thought music videos were supposed to.
I don’t know why I am writing so I’ll stop

Day for Night 1995 Tour Poster
Hi all.
Just watched The Hips last show and was going through my old CDs.
In my Day For Night case I found my original ticket .. such a cool ticket with the crows in a triangle formation.
I really want to make an homage out of this in a frame .. been searching online and cant find any old tour posters / paper from the 1995 tour .. any chance someone has had better googling .. or am I hosed?
I dont mind picking a generic hip poster / image to go with it . .but actual tour would be simply amazing.
Thank you!!!!

Another great Paul podcast appearance
It's always fun hearing Paul talk. The host is someone I'm not familiar with, but she gets quite emotional several times which is interesting. She asks questions that many of us already know the answer to, but Paul is polite and gave great answers.
Paul had to bring up his own solo album, so clearly she wasn't as prepared as she should have been but he did it later on at the end in typical Mr. Langlois fashion.

Happy Anniversary to a fabulous album.
Don't mind the quality. The picture was taken with a potato in 2015 when they did their anniversary tour.
Fantastic show. Fantastic album.

After March 25, 1995 did anyone hear Gord…
Sing the original line of Grace Too?
“He said I’m fabulously rich!”
Rather than the new (possibly) flubbed line from their SNL debut “He said I’m tragically hip!”
I don’t ever remember hearing the original line anywhere but the radio or a cd.

Joining Chaz n' Heath for this episode is Nicole Fortin, a Calgary acupuncturist and world traveler who's equal parts flower child and metal maiden. She bonds with Chaz over her love of Rush, tells the boys about her trek to Birmingham last year to take in that fateful Black Sabbath / Ozzy Osbourne farewell show, and, of course we talk Tragically Hip, reviewing the B side of their first album of the new millennium, Music @ Work.
Heath was a budding young music journalist for the Calgary Herald the year M@W was released and for fun he digs up some of his old writings on the album and tour to share with the class, including a record review, an interview with drummer Johnny Fay, and a review of the Hip's Nov. 23, 2000, concert at the Saddledome.
Check it out folks! Rate, review glowingly and subscribe while you're at it, why don'tcha, so we may grow this hip Hip show!

Now for Plan A Turned 14 Yesterday!
A very underrated Hip album if you ask me, that holds two of my favourite all time Hip tunes, We Want to be It and the title track. What did you think on release day? Has the album warmed to you overtime?
