Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) False advertising

  1. The marketing makes it seem like the movie is about Austin (the unbreakable boy) who is autistic, but rather it's about his prick of a father who caused a drunk driving accident
  2. The talking kangaroo was included in all of the trailers and the main poster but was only a hallucination and was seen for like 30 seconds (Kangaroo Jack)

Chappie was marketed as a sci-fi action movie about a robot who becomes self aware. What the trailers didn’t say was that he gets taken in by the South African rap group Die Antwoord who teach him to be a gangster

Yeah this movie was weird. I remember getting this feeling of “eugh” at the way he referred to them as mommy and daddy and their accents and mannerisms were just so bizarre

The Die Antwoord people were more bizarre IRL

Idk man watching two severely mentally ill ‘gangsters’ play house with a lobotomized robot was not what I expected for that movie.

Like, the movie barely even had any action it was just these two weirdo fucks taking advantage of something innocent with zero consequences. They’re even awarded for it just because they take the mantle of being his ‘family.’

Very very very weird movie.
