Hated Tropes An adaptation completely botches the original theme and message

Mulan(2020)-They give Mulan superpowers which is not only lame it goes against the message of the original about equality and struggle, plus they removes Shang because apparently having Mulan date her superior was "problematic" even though Shang genuienely respected Mulan and their rank was never brought up

I am Legend(2007)-You know why the story is called "I am legend"? SPOILER ALERT the protagonist is the actual monster, humanity is gone and the vampires have a actual society and the protagonist kills and terrorize them

Animal Farm(2026)-On the very slim chance that Andy Serkis ever sees this, here's the thing Andy,Animal Farm was not a children work it was not supposed to have a happy ending, you never heard of cautionary tales before?

Andy Serkis' Animal Farm and dealings with Angel Studios have made me lose respect for him even though he was one of my favorite actors of all time.

You hire the Serkis and you get a clown.

I feel like if I got to know you better we might get along but I'm not really in a place where I have time for forging new friendships right now

Hey me neither. Uh oh, did we just become best friends?

No. I already said I don't have time for that YOU NEVER LISTEN TO ME.

I need some space.

Its too late though. And now we're already in the fallout out period of our friendship. You sure are moving quick for not wanting a best friend.

I don't know how to quit you

His enthusiastic support of GenAi garbage being used for film is also a massive knock against him.

The quoted comment in particular made me lose a lot of respect for its historical ignorance and exceptionalism.

Animal Farm was published in 1945. The Second World War wasn't even over yet. Tens of millions of people were dead, millions more were internally displaced, and most of Europe, East Asia and the Pacific were in ruins.

But yes, clearly kids nowadays have it much worse and deserve a happy ending to cheer them up, unlike those spoilt war orphans.

The man-bun certainly didn’t help either.

He’s also a huge fan of generative AI, which is incredibly disappointing.

It's dangerous to fall in love with an actor. You're really falling in love with Cyrano de Bergerac.

True. All of his mocap work is very impressive but his portrayal of Caesar literally changed my life.

The direction he's been going is especially disappointing since the foundations of the prequel Apes trilogy are Humanism (apeism?) and Political Resistance, two things he's completely turned his back on.

Same. Seeing him do Angel Studios movies is so disappointing and makes me question his politics. I don't want to support someone who works with a Conservative Christian propaganda machine.

Call it an absence of morals or whatever, but I could maybe get over it if everything Angel touched wasn't complete ass because it is impossible for them to even make a mediocre movie.

Edit: as in every movie they've ever made is so far beyond terrible it's laughable
