Hated Tropes An adaptation completely botches the original theme and message

Mulan(2020)-They give Mulan superpowers which is not only lame it goes against the message of the original about equality and struggle, plus they removes Shang because apparently having Mulan date her superior was "problematic" even though Shang genuienely respected Mulan and their rank was never brought up

I am Legend(2007)-You know why the story is called "I am legend"? SPOILER ALERT the protagonist is the actual monster, humanity is gone and the vampires have a actual society and the protagonist kills and terrorize them

Animal Farm(2026)-On the very slim chance that Andy Serkis ever sees this, here's the thing Andy,Animal Farm was not a children work it was not supposed to have a happy ending, you never heard of cautionary tales before?

Given the studio behind Animal Farm 2026's previous works and real-world affiliations, I have an unconfirmable and far-fetched suspicion that butchering the story and message may have been intentional.

To be fair, Angel didn’t make the movie, they just distributed it. The movie was done by the time they got involved. I believe it started life as a Netflix project but they ended up dropping distribution midway through production.

Netflix dropping projects that aren't done is pretty on-brand for them.

Oh for sure, I’m just saying that for as much as Angel Studios deserves the flack it gets from people, they aren’t to blame for what went wrong on Animal Farm…..that you can blame entirely on Andy Serkis, unfortunately.

Y'know, I wondered about that, since Animal Farm's story seemed pretty off-brand for their usual productions. But I didn't have that info before now, which is why I assumed they were being sinister in their intentions. But no, whoever made the decision to pick this pig turd up was just a moron.

They made a decent WW2 movie but kept calling the Nazis "Nationalist Socialists" in what I'm guessing is an attempt to make socialists look bad. (I had no idea Angel Studios was behind that movie until the previews started. My partner and I just wanted to see a movie and that was the one we picked.)

The frustrating thing for me with Angel (aside from that little Pay-It-Forward thing with the QR code they definitely unconfirmably use to inflate ticket sales) is that their people KNOW how to make movies. They just use that talent for what you described above, which again, considering who they affiliate with, is pretty unfortunate.
