Hated Tropes An adaptation completely botches the original theme and message

Mulan(2020)-They give Mulan superpowers which is not only lame it goes against the message of the original about equality and struggle, plus they removes Shang because apparently having Mulan date her superior was "problematic" even though Shang genuienely respected Mulan and their rank was never brought up

I am Legend(2007)-You know why the story is called "I am legend"? SPOILER ALERT the protagonist is the actual monster, humanity is gone and the vampires have a actual society and the protagonist kills and terrorize them

Animal Farm(2026)-On the very slim chance that Andy Serkis ever sees this, here's the thing Andy,Animal Farm was not a children work it was not supposed to have a happy ending, you never heard of cautionary tales before?

Supergirl (2026)

In the comic it's based on, Kara teaches Ruthye that killing and vengeance won't resolve her painful past, and that true strength comes with helping others and restraint.

In the movie she just slimes the main villain of the story.

I took this as her not wanting Ruthye's hands sullied by murder.

That was confirmed to be the intention, but because movie's writer misread the comic's ending as Ruthye killing Krem and thought it was really dark.

Even funnier because Krem's death wasn't even an intentional change, the writer of the movie just completely misread the comic and thought it ended with Ruthye killing Krem. She thought the only change was making was to have Kara be the one to do it.

I doubt that the writer or the director even read the comic (pretty sure the director even admitted to not reading it). Funniest thing is... misread or not read at all, Tom King, the writer of that comic, was literally 1 phone call away this whole time, they just chose not to contact him.

The writer did, iirc the director explicitly did *not* because he didn't want to be too influenced, which.. yea.

Hey, maybe Supergirl didn't faithfully adapt it's story and themes, but it also didn't adapt it's breathtaking visuals!

Hollywood just loves killing villains in superhero stories.

Almost like if they hated the source material

Sounds like an improvement. I'm so goddamn sick of the "revenge doesn't make you feel better" trope that they're trying to push so victims are discouraged from fighting back against their abusers.

Maybe you just don't like superheroes and that's ok. But maybe they should make superhero media for people who, you know, actually consume them and not normies like you.

I don’t think you’d want to see superhero film budgets if they were gatekept for comic readers only
