Hated Tropes An adaptation completely botches the original theme and message

Mulan(2020)-They give Mulan superpowers which is not only lame it goes against the message of the original about equality and struggle, plus they removes Shang because apparently having Mulan date her superior was "problematic" even though Shang genuienely respected Mulan and their rank was never brought up

I am Legend(2007)-You know why the story is called "I am legend"? SPOILER ALERT the protagonist is the actual monster, humanity is gone and the vampires have a actual society and the protagonist kills and terrorize them

Animal Farm(2026)-On the very slim chance that Andy Serkis ever sees this, here's the thing Andy,Animal Farm was not a children work it was not supposed to have a happy ending, you never heard of cautionary tales before?

I almost thought sticking to the more "realistic" ending was ballsy, but then of course they decide to end it with Nani being able to use Pleakly's portal gun thing to visit in person whenever she wants anyway. So none of it matters, I guess.

Also, fuck Disney for being cowards and not letting Pleakly crossdress.

The irony is they still could have used the portal gun, just in reverse.

Have Nani be using the portal gun to commute to school. Do a slow pan through the house with David seeing Nani off to school, Jumba helping Lilo with a school project (and Pleakly freaking out about him including some comedic sci-fi element), Stitch teaching tricks to the neighborhood dogs or some other sight gag, and you're golden. Nani is able to go to school now because she's not alone trying to raise her sister, but she's still there for Lilo, not just visiting regularly but together as family.

The moral is still that Nani shouldn't have had to give up her future to take care of her sister, but it doesn't forget that Ohana means family... not just the family that you're born with, but the family you make.

But the reality is that sometimes you DO have to give things up to care for your family, and that's what makes the original Nani so heroic and inspirational. Her entire character is cheapened by allowing her to fulfill her dreams, when she's supposed to be a George Bailey archetype.

Getting rid of the benign queer elements of the original made me not want to even try watching the live action.

So why wouldn’t she just use it to commute to classes?!

It is really weird times when cross dressing has been normalised for decades (E.g. Bugs bunny) but only now is it deemed unacceptable

Yes, because now it will upset some men.
