Hated Tropes An adaptation completely botches the original theme and message

Mulan(2020)-They give Mulan superpowers which is not only lame it goes against the message of the original about equality and struggle, plus they removes Shang because apparently having Mulan date her superior was "problematic" even though Shang genuienely respected Mulan and their rank was never brought up

I am Legend(2007)-You know why the story is called "I am legend"? SPOILER ALERT the protagonist is the actual monster, humanity is gone and the vampires have a actual society and the protagonist kills and terrorize them

Animal Farm(2026)-On the very slim chance that Andy Serkis ever sees this, here's the thing Andy,Animal Farm was not a children work it was not supposed to have a happy ending, you never heard of cautionary tales before?

IDG WHY they thought animal farm was meant for kids

i assume it was the talking farm animals because a lot of children's books include talking animals and farms (at least the ones i had as a kid)

"oh hey this book has talking animals in it, it must be for kids then!"

The 90s X-Men cartoon did a joke like this where prison guards were mocking Beast

"Aw, he thinks he's reading!"

"It's Animal Farm. He's just looking at the pictures!"

It's probably the best joke in the series.

If he'd heard them at all, he'd probably chuckle to himself at the guards proving he was much smarter than them.

I remember coming out of the grocery store and a kid was trying to convince mom to get "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" out of the RedBox.

I read it when I was 11 and didn't get it at all. The only talking animal stuff I'd read until that point was Redwall. I didn't re-read it until the early 2010s (when I was in my 20s) after seeing The Hunger Games.

What gets me even more is that it was Angel Studios--who makes conservative Christian movies--that was behind Animal Farm. It was a massive "I don't want to live on this planet anymore" moment for me.

Because they are stupid, that's why.

Because the novel is literally 'babby's first political allegory?' It's aimed at pre-teens.

so would it make sense to give it a happy ending? thats the point being made

What does 'it's intended to teach children about something' and 'it should have a happy ending' have to do with each other?

No, it doesn't make sense to give the cautionary tale a happy ending.
