Hello,
I’m planning to apply for a Swedish work permit and residence permit based on employment.
I have an old criminal case from more than 12 years ago, related to a physical altercation. During the incident, another person suffered a moderate bodily injury.
I accepted responsibility for what happened, fully compensated the injured person, and we subsequently reconciled.
The criminal case was then terminated by the court due to reconciliation between the parties. There was no conviction, no sentence, and no criminal punishment.
However, although my current criminal-record certificate confirms that I have no criminal conviction, it still contains historical information about the previous criminal case and its termination.
I also have official court documents confirming how the case was terminated.
Since then, more than 12 years have passed and there have been no further criminal incidents or similar cases.
I am trying to understand how a situation like this is treated by Swedish immigration authorities when applying for a work permit based on employment.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation in Sweden, particularly with Migrationsverket?
For example:
- An old criminal case involving a physical altercation and bodily injury;
- The person accepted responsibility and compensated the injured party;
- The parties subsequently reconciled;
- The case was terminated without a conviction or punishment;
- The person's current criminal-record certificate shows no conviction, but still contains historical information about the case;
- More than 10 years have passed with no further incidents.
Did Migrationsverket ask about the case or request court documents?
Was the fact that there was no conviction or punishment taken into consideration?
And did the age of the case make a significant difference?
I would particularly appreciate real-life experiences from people who have had a similar situation when applying for a Swedish work permit or residence permit.
Thank you.
