When two dudes are listening to each other, but don’t really give a shit about the content of conversation.

u/thatdudejon 15h ago

Just guys being dudes. No need. We speak with body language and a series of farts, burps, and grunts.

That's John Kruk and Tom McCarthy for the Phillies. John Kruk is absolutly hilarious. His stories about his time playing in the MLB are legendary.

Top 5 baseball memory from my childhood is Kruk Vs Randy Johnson in the allstar game.

u/BrohanGutenburg 14h ago

I miss the old Sunday night baseball crew.

u/KennyLog1n 13h ago

And the way Kruk retired was legendary too. Got his hit, and walked off the field at 34 years old.

Loved hearing his story about International play in Mexico and he had all his gear stolen 😅

u/SMVan 15h ago

Then suddenly there's a double play or a home run and they have to take it to 100 in 2 seconds.

I don't know why but "After there's a lull in the action," about baseball is the most hilarious thing about this.

In the 2000's I used to watch a lot of late night poker cause the 2 commentator's had so little to talk about in regards to the game they'd just chat shit like an early version of a podcast, it was great.

The English commentary in the early Korean league of legends scene used to be the same. Just two blokes with a small audience and barely any moderation meant they could talk about anything.

Used to have pauses lasting for hours too and they'd just ramble to keep people engaged. Remember them playing hangman with viewers on one long pause and when one of them had to commentate solo he would teach us Korean during pauses.

Oo one of them might’ve been Norman Chad, definitely sounds like him

" I can't get fired for saying this.."

I thought for sure this was going south.

This is surprising wholesome and cute

Kruk is a national treasure 😊

I heard two baseball announcers talk about their kids birthday party between pitches. Like how moms chat with each other while watching the kids and every now then there is “no we don’t lick our friends faces” then blah blah blah “stop sitting in your brothers chest” blah blah blah

Are they lip syncing some actual commentating or are they making this up? Their voices don't match their face but this is hilarious if this is real commentary.

89

u/FitMongoose9 15h ago

Yes, it is actual commentary from that game. Sometimes you get a pitching battle where there just isn’t a ton of action in the game to talk about, and with 162 games in a season there’s only so many times you can talk about a player’s background or bring up interesting stats before it gets repetitive. In those moments, it’s better to talk about Big Wong’s Chinese Restaurant as opposed to saying nothing and having dead air on the broadcast

Cricket is the same, im not the biggest fan of the sport, but something about the calm demeanour of the commentators who can swap from a discussion about something local to mildly excited about a good bat or bowl is just enthralling.

I think its because of the nature of these "slower" innings length games. You get your occasional frenetic action when there is a big run, but for the most part the game is careful strategy over a long period.

To the point there's even a Parody act called The Twelfth Man who's done comedic spoken word tracks based on famous cricket commentary. It's successful enough that he's made it to number one in the charts twice in Australia

There was a Bills game last year where it was an early blowout and then the bills were just playing safe as it was late in the season and they weren't going to risk their starters. The announcer is talking about John Allen's family farm or something and one of them goes "well you can take a guess how this game is going if we're at the point of talking about Allen's family farm" and it absolutely killed me. Just a hilarious moment of honestly with the audience

u/TerribleMusketeer 15h ago

Yes, the guy infatuated with Chinese is John Kruk, a Philly treasure. Him and Tom McCarthy (play-by-play)do the Phillies games; there are so many goofy moments like this.

Baseball announcing is the best in sports, half the time I'll turn on games just for this

-5

u/a_bored_lady 15h ago

So im just spit balling here but it reminds me if when they show radio announcers on live TV broadcast sometimes. The audio never matches up because of the broadcast delay.

3

u/ice_cream_on_pizza 15h ago

I didn't mean the voices aren't in sync. I meant the voices doesn't match the people. Like, I wouldn't have thought they sounded like that.

5

u/jesseeme 14h ago

Tigers have such good commentators for down time, Benetti and Dirks together are so much fun.

4

u/Tiger49er 14h ago

Right on the edge of absurd and unhinged most of the time. It's perfect.

2

u/HollowSuzumi 7h ago

I love them! Peaches and Dickerson talked about their dogs earlier this year. Benetti and Dirks spent a few minutes talking about coat racks. The Tigers broadcast crew is the best

2

u/jesseeme 7h ago

With the ebbs and flows this season having our radio and tv commentators made it worth watching, it’s the best.

Jon Kruk is a national treasure

3

u/Gingeronimoooo 48m ago

A woman who was a fan in Philly saw him smoking a cigarette said "why are you smoking?! You're an athlete!"

John Kruk replied "ma'am I'm a baseball player"

4

u/ThnkWthPrtls 14h ago

John Kruk is a Philadephia national treasure

3

u/zbipy14z 5h ago

Why is half this video taken up by people lip syncing the dialog?

3

u/Lerkero 4h ago

Unfortunately this is "content" in 2026. Thousands of people reposting the same video and audio so that they can put their face on it while pretending to do something "creative".

In the old days it felt like most people had decency to repost things without trying to claim originality

2

u/mcmaxxious 15h ago

The guy on the right has a career .300 batting average.

2

u/pinkydaemon93 9h ago

And an all time mullet and one nut

2

u/Bag_of_donkey_dicks 4h ago

And got some high and tight fastballs from Randy Johnson and decided said nope lol

3

u/Reesewithoutaspoon2 14h ago

I think I’ve gotten food from the same place before, assuming he’s referring to a restaurant in DC (which I think he is).

It’s not bad. Best tasting Big Wong I’ve ever had at least

2

u/PoopyStinkbutts 14h ago

Big Bad Wong

1

u/PoopyStinkbutts 14h ago

God I love you John Kruk. Big Wong!

1

u/_The_Apologist_ 12h ago

If you ever need to kill some time, look up the best of John Kruk as an announcer

He's a Phillies guy specifically, so he's not well known nationally, but he's a legend.

1

u/Probably_Not_Sir 11h ago

So who are these 2 guys doing the voice over?

1

u/Renovatio_ 6h ago

This is pretty much why I like baseball.

1

u/ZeroOptionLightning 4h ago

In this household we celebrate our two kings Kruker and T Mac

1

u/Insomniacintheflesh 3h ago

I watched this video of Kruk messing with a teenager that was in the booth beside him. It was so funny. He is out there genuinely just having a good time when there is a "lull" lol. (I say as a Braves fan)

Here it is: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DY5J2wpNWei/?rpxt=Y2tuaGkwMmF6eHFv

I absolutely hate listening to american team announcers with their heaps of dead air and unrelated bullshit. Im so grateful for the announcers we have for the blue jays. Guys and gals that actually give a shit about baseball and the city they’re in make such a huge difference in the quality. Buck really set a standard.

-5

u/Short-Friendship-588 15h ago

None of them can hold a candle to our Cleveland MVP Tom Hamilton.

-6

u/SuddenWorth5752 14h ago

Do we need commentators?... I understand for blind people for sure... however I found the commentators on radio are so much better.
