Discussion $0.99 No More...

Post image
16 Upvotes

So, sadly, it appears that after increasing the quantity of items one can send in to sell as a cleanout in the box with item(s) you are returning - from 20 to 30 (which was not in practice that big of a change, since most boxes can not fit much more than 20 items anyways, especially if a few bulkier items or shoes are being sent), the "reduced service fee" for this now appears to have been increased to $4.99, instead of just $0.99!

I clicked through once today, more-or-less on "autopilot" to set up a return, and agreed to the increased fee without actually reading the fine print to notice the changed fee until reviewing the confirmation screen - as this has been the same $0.99 for ages. I don't think I will be sending more items to ThredUp to sell this way, with the 5X higher fee.

I assume everyone is seeing the change in fees? or is this increase "targeted", or account-specific, (since I have been using this option frequently)?

Discussion The new AI listings are actively deceptive, and I hate it

Thumbnail

Saw this listing with the new style of presenting items as AI generated floating/3D/ghost mannequin/whatever you call it. Besides the shape of the tank top not matching the actual item and the tag being removed, you can see how it turned the printed design on the actual top into embroidery.

If they end up transitioning to mostly or exclusively using this style, there's no way I'll continue buying from ThredUp. Does anyone know of the best way to complain about this? I feel like sending hate mail to their headquarters or something. Or a strongly-worded tweet, anyway.

Just to show here that not everything is a good deal and sometimes you can find it cheaper and new somewhere else!

Haul Second natural fabrics haul for fall!

Everything was in great shape, and everything fit except the Free People crop top, (I always forget their stuff runs small!) which should fit fine by next spring when I’m ready for it again. (Or I’ll just sell it).

My fave pieces are the Maeve Mary Janes which are flawless, the skateboarding dog tee which has actual little gems on it which were hard to spot in the product photos, the good energy zip hoodie from Mighty Fine, and the oversized Def Leppard tee (the letters are metallic, also hard to spot in the product photos.)

The Poison tee is perhaps a bit more worn out than expected, but band tees always look good when they’re well loved!

The Grateful Dead zip hoodie is for sure a men’s rather than women’s, so it was miscategorized, but it fits oversized the way I wanted, just a teeny bit more lol. The weirdest part is, it doesn’t have pockets?! First hoodie I’ve ever bought without pockets, but not a dealbreaker. Also brand new!

I did say that this was my last fall haul, but I actually have two more small ones coming, because it’s addictive, and I realized I needed some ā€œadultā€ things, like boots for winter, and a good warm jacket, as I lost mine last winter when I left it at a surgicenter after a procedure, and it was never recovered šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I kinda hated it anyway, so šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤

Anyway, this is fun! I love seeing what everyone is finding, and the best tips for navigating ā€œUnbrandedā€ and ā€œAssorted Brandsā€ (which is where I’ve scored some of my best items!!)
I have an Assorted Brands 100% leather jacket coming in my next shipment! Stay tuned 😁🧔

Missing Items

After getting pure crap from this company in each order over and over again, I was trying to swear off Thred Up altogether but I haven’t been able to do it yet. I do get nice items along with items that are a complete waste of money but can’t seem to learn my lesson. Once again, I ordered a pair of shoes that were worth about $160 when I did a Google search. They were marked down to about $13, so perfect except they are missing from my order. This isn’t the first time higher valued items that I have bought for a good price are no where to be found. Super annoying.

Bundles shipping before being released by me

This has happened several times to me now. I start a bundle, then they release it to ship within a day or so. I know I’m not accidentally doing this. This happened again just this evening. I placed a bundle order. Then not long after I get an email saying they’re getting my order ready. Does this happen to anyone else?

Calvin Klein rejected

I sent a nice Calvin Klein skirt to Thread Up. It was in perfect condition. They said in was unacceptable and not listed. I wonder why? Also, I wish I would have had the option to get it back. Any insight?
Thred Up has changed so much since I last sold.

Question Upset one of my pretty items might be recycled. Don't want to reclaim.

This is my first time sending in a takeback bag, so apologies if I'm misunderstanding or being too touchy. But I sent in a beautiful black lace dress simply because it doesn't fit me. Now they say I have 7 days to reclaim it. I don't want it because I can't wear it, but it kills me to think this beautiful dress might be recycled! Is that really what will happen to it? Or will they keep trying to sell it?

Weekly Seller's Discounted Advertising Thread

As requested by members of the subreddit, this is a weekly post where sellers can post their near-expiring items for very low prices. Please post a photo, brief description, link, and price.

If you think someone is advertising without a significant discount, please report. If you are a seller, please be sure the low price is live before posting. Do not use this thread to advertise non-discounted listings. This is currently the only post on this sub where advertising is permitted.

If you have any suggestions for this thread or an idea for a better title, please let me know!

Haul It’s addicting!

My first order came and all the pieces were better quality than I expected, two were never worn! It also totaled $28 which is nuts in this economy. So I placed my second order it hasn’t come in yet but i’m really excited. The piece I’m looking forward to most is the French Connection vest. I am going back to work next week from a maternity leave so these pieces will be part of my capsule wardrobe. I think my favorite tool on the site is the condition filter Ive been filtering for with tags, excellent, and very good then sorting low to high i’ve found really great pieces. I just wanted to share :)

Question Can we post links to collections? or is that spam/too low effort?

Post image
33 Upvotes

I created a 'collection' list for hidden gems that I come across in the Unbranded and assorted brands. Stuff that's not my style, size or whatever reason I'm not going to buy it. Couldn't get the link to work so stopped adding to it, but duh, don't use the app for that. So, can we post these? It's mostly natural fibers, incorrectly identified sizing, brands that you can figure out via the tag, or a combination of any of the above. I'll post it as a comment so that can be deleted if it's not allowed.

Pic is all on it's way to me. Scarf is like 6'5" x 2' wool; a wrap. Blue dress is Kate Spade. The tote looks like a leather midrange Picotin dupe. White dress is Brooks Brothers. The Neiman Marcus coat I'm VERY excited about because the tag dates back to the 1920s. I think it's going to be a 1930 silk velvet opera coat. Hope it's in good condition. The black hat, idk. Thredup says 100% wool, looks like decent quality, couldn't find it with an image search. Gamble!

Discussion Some of these "NWT" deals are just Nordstrom Rack items on sale

I used to get excited to get certain brands for cheaper --Free People, Sezane, etc. The more I started image searching, the more I realized that I could sometimes find those same brands sometimes cheaper on their own website, or in the case of FP, on Nordstrom Rack. For Sezane, sometimes in their Archives section.

I mention this only to say --sometimes look around if something looks recent. It might be cheaper, available in another size/color, etc. A FP top I bought at ThredUp for $35 ended up also being on Nordstrom Rack on clearance for $26. I saw some other stuff between the website and the store today when I went in.

Perhaps this is common knowledge and I need to learn about better brands, but I thought I'd let people know just in case.

Haul The 20 most interesting items I've purchased in the last couple months

Pictures sorted low to high, as to be expected. Quick rundown: the cape reverses to a grey and salmon harlequin print (feel like a magician! So cool!). Yes, that's a cape blazer(and why is it not more prevalent?). The Saks reddish cardigan I'd guess is late 1960s and a wool/acrylic blend. Boden skirt is velvet. The straw hat is a $500 Tracy Tooker hat. The black loafers are $700 Anatomica shoes. Longer green dress is a 1940s repro brand, the bird green dress is a silk blend. Space invaders shirt is Kate Spade and NWT. Chevron poncho is Missoni. Green skirt is vintage early to mid 1960s Anne Fogarty. Top hat is Scott & Co Hatters (they were hatmakers to the English royal family at one point but I believe this hat is post 1969), I think it's a fur felt of some sort. Both the blue floral dress and the peach dress are both actual vintage late 1920s day dresses. They're in amazing shape! The grey scarf, I'm assuming is fake, but it's an incredibly good one if so. It's the La Parage rectangle. The denim overalls are vintage 1970s from an English brand and they fit like a glove, seriously incredible look. Yellow boots are Miista, and then we finish off with a lovely pair of Chie Mihara ivory boots that do need a little bit of care (dry leather). I love vintage stuff and it's fun "gambling" on these things.

Thoughts on the new use of ghost mannequins?

I’m bummed because I use the real mannequin to gauge size, length, drape, condition, color, texture, etc. The ghost mannequin makes the item look very different from the actual item.

They are asking me to send in cold weather gear, and I have a lot of hats and scarves. But I since they won't list them at more than 20, will I get any credit?

Order smells like smoke

My order arrived today, and all the items smell like smoke. A purse has the strongest smell, and I think the other items picked it up. If I reach out the customer support, what are the chances they would give me a partial refund for dry cleaning? I’d rather try to get the smell out than return the items. Some are machine washable and some are not.

Bummed after sending my first clean out kit in a few years.

I have previously sent quite a few cleanout kits from 2018-2023 (apparently I had sent 16 cleanout kits). When I look back, none of them had the $15 processing fee. My payout fees ranged anywhere from $10-60 dollars per kit. I never expected a lot of money. I sent things I knew I didnt have the time to try to sell myself. It was nice to put $20 or whatever I earned towards a purchase.

So anyways, I recently sent 2 clean out kits that are at the end of their selling window. I havent made $15 to cover the fee from either kit. I sent a good amount of items. Nothing super high end, but normal and mid-tier brands, cute items, no brands on the no payout list. I did lower the price on quite a few items, because they had jacked up the price really high for certain items. My rule of thumb is if i think it is a reasonable price that i would pay.

I essentially donated all my items to ThredUp. I would have much rather donated to a local womans charity, which is what I will be doing moving forward.

I see posts like this all the time, but I just wanted to share my disappointment somewhere.
