Reddit trolls might be the worst undercover agents in history.
I recently went on the biggest Reddit binge of my life. My new job involves working remotely on a computer with plenty of downtime. Terrible use of my time, but a fascinating sociological experiment. I got pretty good at debating strangers, and noticed that when people ran out of arguments, they'd investigate my profile and deliver the ultimate comeback: "You're terminally online! Touch grass!" Particularly hilarious considering I've spent most of my life as a ski and raft guide, backpacking for weeks and hiking trails like the Pacific Crest Trail. I've touched enough grass to qualify as a national park.
Here's where it got interesting. Some people even followed me into unrelated posts to continue insulting me, yet almost all these amateur detectives had hidden their own profile activity. Naturally, I got curious. Within minutes, a basic Google search uncovered embarrassing confessions, hometowns, occupations, and enough personal history to write unauthorized biographies. These people were conducting background checks on strangers while leaving their own digital fingerprints on every doorknob. The temptation to respond to "Touch grass!" with "How's that furry convention breakup going?" was almost irresistible. The funniest part is I was investigating the people investigating me. We'd somehow turned a Reddit argument into a low-budget CIA operation staffed entirely by idiots, myself included.
Now for the tip of the day for those who don't know!!!
Want to see what your Reddit username reveals? Google:
site:reddit.com "u/USERNAME"
Replace USERNAME with your username. Even if you've hidden your profile activity, Google may still find publicly indexed posts and comments. This search can be further tweaked for a broad search. Remember kids, anonymity isn't much protection when you've left your entire autobiography scattered across 37 subreddits.
Anyway, I'm off to touch grass before someone discovers my classified 2019 SpongeBob opinions. Hehe. Chow!
