ticket sale/swap Weekly Ticket Sales Post

Welcome to the weekly ticket sale & swap thread!

Please post all your ticket sales and ISO's in here. If you are looking for a place for great deals generally, this can be its own post. The format is as follows:

Show
Date + time
Number of tickets
Specific seat number(s) & section
Original ticket price
Resell price

If your ticket is a lottery win (including the Friday Forty), 16-25 ticket or gifted ticket etc, you must state this.

It is recommended that you pay via PayPal G&S.

If there is less than 48 hours to your show, you are permitted to post outside of the thread.

^ As per the rules, this ticket cannot be sold for more than 50% of its value, unless the rest of the run is sold out. I strongly recommend you give your ticket away to prevent an empty seat, as it is highly unlikely you will get your money back. Most theatres (despite their FAQ's) allow you to exchange for another date with more than 48hrs notice if you ask them nicely.

All other sales posts will be removed.

Review 'Some Woman' at the National - one of the best plays I've seen in years

Saw this show at the National Theatre last night. One of the most powerful, urgent plays I've seen in a long time, and maybe the most accurately reflective of women's issues in modern Britain. It's a gripping character study and state-of-the-nation piece in one. Sad, infuriating and at times bitterly funny. Great script, acting and set design, and deserved the standing ovation it got. 100% recommend it.

(I did see another post on here taking issue with some of the legal realities in the show - it is true that the play presents an extreme case in how a suspect might be treated by the police/justice system, but that's the point - the play is something of a parable, and is absolutely not (nor pretending to be) a legal drama. Even so, the way the legal proceedings are shown isn't particularly unrealistic or hard to believe - major spoiler for the end here: the main character is charged with violence-related offences after grabbing and shaking a child (who she didn't know beforehand) right next to a train track, which is likely what would happen. The play ends as the court case begins, so we don't know whether she'd be found guilty or not).

Discussion An oak tree .. thoughts?

Just recently I went to see An oak tree at the other place. The celebrity of the day was Olivia Williams. But …i could not keep my eyes open. I find the play so boring. The story could have be interesting but all those pauses, handle the script, chat in the microphone, kills it. I also discovered that I cant stand Tim Couch and how he was “ puppeteering “ the other actors and his own acting. I would have walked out but I was in the middle of a full row of people. I guess it is one of those plays that gives an opportunity to see your favourite celebrity but honestly it was such a big disappointment for me. Any thoughts?!? ( oh btw Olivia was great).

Discussion High School Musical the Musical Extension?

I was so excited when they announced this and having Kayce is a great casting choice. I'm so shocked the run is currently until January when it's only just started in London. How likely do we think it will extend? With Christmas coming up I barely have time to get to London.

Side note. Can anyone who has seen the show comment on the energy levels of the performers? I loveee watching meganix videos but wow the choreography and mood seems flat, until Kayce shows you how it could be done with energy and enthusiasm and that everyone else is giving half hearted performances.

Advice My Neighbour Totoro

Hey everyone,

I'm clutching at straws here - but do we think My Neighbor Totoro will be extended in theatres?

I'm taking my friend to London to see one of her favourite bands for her birthday in April and I hoped to book a theatre show for the next day for her.

I really wanted My Neighbor Totoro but it looks like the last shows are in January :(

Has it been extended a lot? And do we think it'll get extended again?

If not, are there any other similar theatre shows she may enjoy?

Thanks!

Hello long shot here! My partner and I have £25 tix for Golden Boy in Stalls L10+11 on Thursday 22nd - but we’ve had something come up and was wondering if anyone would be up for swapping tickets of similar value for basically any other day of its run? Not looking to sell as we will go if we can’t work something else out but thought I’d try :)

Discussion Ibsen's "Ghosts" at the Jermyn Street Theatre

I came out of tonight’s performance of “Ghosts” at the Jermyn Street Theatre feeling as if I had been punched in the gut, surely just as Ibsen intended,

Impeccably directed by Kwame Owusu, it’s played to perfection by Flora Montgomery, Joe Pitts, Oliver Alvin-Wilson, Ceceilia Appiah and Peter F. Gardiner

I saw Lesley Manville’s highly acclaimed performance on stage as well as the televised version and don’t recall being nearly as moved as I was by this current production. Likewise, the 1997 BBC television version, despite the heavyweight cast of Judi Dench, Michael Gambon, Kenneth Brannagh and Natasha Richardson.

The 70 seated Jermyn Street Theatre is ideal for this play whose action takes place in one room. The proximity of the audience to the players heightens the emotional involvement with the characters, making the climax truly devastating.

It’s so rare to witness a production that seems to have got everything right. This really is compulsory viewing for anyone who loves theatre. Not to be missed.

Review Hunger Games on stage: My review

The Hunger Games is a franchise that has brought me a lot of joy over the years. I was a bit hesitant to waste an evening in London on it after hearing all the bad reviews though. I couldn’t resist in the end though and went last month. Some thoughts since I haven’t seen a lot of talk in a while. No real spoilers, although if you want to go in completely blind stop reading.

PROS:
This is such a nice theatre. I sat in the cheapest seats I could (35£ after fees added) and the view was perfect. You could sit behind an NBA player and you’d have no issue. I’ve definitely paid significantly more of much worse. It has an interesting modern warehouse feel too and there is a number of memorabilia pieces to look at too. Some sections of seats move which was really unique also.

I liked some of the added flair such as the dancing parts and choreographed fighting I’ve seen people complain about. It’s the theatre and I felt it needed something you can’t get from its other media, which this is.

Lighting game was strong.

Overall it was a pretty fun and enjoyable watch with some effort put in to some interesting special effects. Them on the chariot was probably the best one.

NEUTRAL:
The acting was overall fine. Some were stronger than others. Nothing was bad enough to be a distraction to me.

The video acting portion worked fine. Sometimes off by a beat, but not major.

CONS:
The Hunger Games movies are already excellent. I’m a big believer in “the book is better” in 99.9% of cases, but I feel this franchise might be a rare exception. So it’s hard to justify paying to see this in some ways instead of watching the dvd again for free in my living room.

A number of the effects/ stunts seemed very clunky and obvious compared to other productions I’ve seen. I saw Cursed Child for a fourth time this same trip and I always describe that one as the closest I’ll ever be to witnessing real magic, it is nothing but believable and flawless. I didn’t really feel that here, there were always obvious wires and moves that didn’t sell a lot of it properly.

TLDR: If you are already a THG fan and have some time in London I think it’s worth it.

Advice Which current West End show should I go to?

Hi! I'm a Broadway fan and am traveling to London solo Nov 7-13. I want to catch a West End production since I've never experienced one before. I've already seen the classics/popular ones in NYC like Wicked, Hadestown, Oh Mary, The Six, Book of Mormon...etc. I'm hoping to catch a show that's only in the West End right now.

Here's a list of productions I'm thinking of:

  • Oliver!
  • Matilda
  • Phantom
  • Les Mis
  • Avenue Q

I can only attend one show while I'm there, which one listed above would you recommend? And are there others that I must go?

Advice back to the future: the musical - will i enjoy it as someone who isnt a musical person?

hello!

i am a diehard back to the future fan, but the only musicals i have ever seen have been via. film and not in person. i am by no means a musical person in regard to the song & dance aspects but i can respect and appreciate the art and enjoy it when done well. i struggle with the breaking out into song particularly during a serious scene.

whilst not being an avid musical fan, i have seen a few shows and love special tech & effects and i find them admirable.

what i am asking is, from the perspective of someone who doesnt typically enjoy musicals (although i have not seen one in person so i cannot say i do not like them as such), but absolutely loves the movies, would i enjoy the musical?

any tips / information are welcome! i am open to minimal spoilers as i have done some research myself too 😊
