My theory is that rather than being an ideological selection, MAGA selected for low IQ and built their army of followers who are by definition easily led and easily mislead. Therefore it makes sense that the things we see them do and believe are as a whole stupid, though at a higher level the forces orchestrating it are more fittingly something along the lines of evil.

Some of them are genuinely stupid, I’m sure, but the thing that people underestimate is that many, many of them are absolutely not stupid and people do not understand how primed MAGA followers were to see him as the second coming of jesus christ. And sadly, I would have likely been MAGA because I grew up Mormon and because of my fundamentalist parents was raised to think that America was chosen by god, that Americans are better than everyone else, and that there’s a moral panic of our world and society as a whole because people are moving away from Christianity, so we need a “savior” to fix it.
I am not a genius, but I’m also not stupid. I would say I’m slightly smarter than the average person, however I used to believe that if I drank coffee or masturabated or had pre-marital sex that I wouldn’t be allowed into the highest tier of heaven. I used to believe that I had to memorize certain handshakes along with certain phrases in order to get into the highest tier of heaven. I thought it was completely okay for an adult man to ask CHILDREN (8 years and older) sexual questions in order to determine their “worthiness”. I used to believe that once I died I’d get to make my own worlds!
The point being - I wasn’t stupid, I was prepared & inoculated from the time I was literally 2 weeks old and on to believe those things and to believe that one day there’d be someone who would save all of the world and that Mormonism would take over the world. I was primed to believe everything that MAGA stood for. So while I wasn’t and I’m not stupid, I was brainwashed into believing those things; and Trump has found a perfect niche of being the savior for these primed and desperate people who were already brainwashed to be looking for a savior.
Unfortunately a bunch of my family members and previous friends who are Mormon are Trump supporters still and while I can understand their perspective way more than the average person, it’s still incredibly disappointing and disgusting to me that they support him.

Along with this train of thought, Christians and other religious folks are taught binary thinking. Good or bad, black or white. There is very little gray area in their world views. So if you can convince them that you and your agenda are "white" then everything that opposes you is black. And it is incredible what you can get someone to do if they think you're on the side of evil.
The Nazis were raised out of far right evangelicals for this exact reason. Rwanda happened because of binary thinking. The more you look at atrocities committed by any group towards another this is what it boils down to. Someone convinced someone else that there was an enemy and that destroying them was the right thing to do.
A quote I heard once that I really think pertains to this is "if you think your side has no faults then you have been manipulated. "

Norwegian Prime Minister has gone on record saying that he has repeatedly tried to explain to president Trump that the Norwegian people doesn’t award the Prize, neither the Norwegian government, its an independent think tank committee that researches all the candidates under strict objective criterias. But apparently Trump thought that he could make the Norwegian PM bend the rules for him, and he then had to explain what independent committee was and means.. just insane

US president Donald Trump has been caught lying on camera more than 6000 times since becoming president (not including repeated lies). Arguably he has told more lies and inaccurate statements than truths. Per any sane definition this person is a pathological liar yet somehow he has amassed a huge following and holds the highest position in the US.
