Expensive Rogers Stadium damage
Not AI. You mods want to apoligize?
1.2k
u/Chicken_Hairs Sep 03 '26
Were people claiming it's AI? This damage is pretty public knowledge.
I feel like "It's AI" has become a massive copout for the lazy or stupid.

u/3amGreenCoffee Sep 03 '26
Twice now I've had legitimate photos removed by admins in other subs for allegedly being AI.
They never apologize.
116
u/funk-the-funk Sep 04 '26
A mod apologizing is one of those things so rare that you could easily believe it to be a myth.

Saying “it’s AI” is a cop out sounds exactly like something AI would say.

u/_B_Little_me Sep 04 '26
Idiots and AI are two sides of the same coin.
14
u/funk-the-funk Sep 04 '26
Pro-AI and Anti-AI are both dumb. Being against the current companies pushing AI is not dumb as their leaders are psychopaths.
However AI, LLM, or Machine Learning are not dumb at all and applied to the right fields, i.e. Science and Medical research will be massively beneficial to society as a whole.
As a replacement for artists and jobs it's shite.

u/between3and20spaces Sep 05 '26
the 'it's AI' reminds me of the early days of the Internet when a bunch of people would declare something was 'photoshopped'.
115
u/DystopianAdvocate Sep 03 '26
There's a video taken from a helicopter from a reputable news agency that shows the same damage, so it's definitely not AI. I could understand yesterday when there was only one random photo floating around that people would question it, but not anymore.
10
u/2PlasticLobsters Sep 03 '26
There are bots making false claims of AI with the aim of confusing algorithms.
26
u/fluffyfistoffury Sep 03 '26
It used to be people saying it's photoshopped, now it's people saying it's AI...same concept I guess.
14
u/BoredInDenver86 Sep 04 '26
Before that it was „it’s airbrushed“. The concept isn’t new, but the name gets an update every so often.
3
u/ACoderGirl Sep 04 '26
It's definitely getting worse, though. Some of it makes sense since AI is so much more accessible than Photoshop.
But I think a lot of it is irrational and stems from how people are just extremely paranoid about AI, so they'd rather brush off real things as AI than risk getting tricked into thinking an AI thing is real. A healthy degree of skepticism is a good thing, but a lot of people have taken it to an extreme that I'd consider unhealthy. They particularly seem to have forgotten how interesting the world is, so anything other than the most mundane, unchanging shit is viewed with disbelief. I feel it's genuinely tragic and worry about it only getting worse as AI becomes increasingly indiscernible.
20
u/satanic_whore Sep 03 '26
My conspiracy theory is that this is a deliberate action to obfuscate what is actually AI, to the end that eventually bots can't tell whether anything is AI (and tell the humans).
22
u/RootHogOrDieTrying Sep 03 '26
My theory is that it's to give cover for a certain party when certain photos inevitably leak.
0
u/Ok_Wallaby_416 Sep 04 '26
Bingo, but it's def to help benefit powerful people across the political spectrum. Notice how the Dems aren't constantly calling for impeachments today, when they absolutely should be and might actually convict this time, like they were during Trump's first term.
Trump went full blown war criminal, like so many of his bipartisan predecessors, and became accepted by the uniparty
2
u/funk-the-funk Sep 04 '26
As much as I am against the "both sides" argument because of the obvious differences in the two parties, the Dems are absolutely not giving anyone the warm fuzzies that they are capable of cleaning up this mess if they take back control.
Calling it now, they will 1000% pull the "we need to move on for the sake of the country" bullshit and there will be little to no accountability if the Dems put another one of their AIPAC Wallstreet turds up again and they manage to win.
1
u/Ok_Wallaby_416 Sep 09 '26
Yup. We just need to kick them all out and either go to a lottery system or make it criminal for a politician to campaign on certain promises, only to pull a 180 upon being elected.

So some people have just been claiming everything is AI to kind of call attention to the fact that we're kinda getting to the point where it's so pervasive that it's hard to trust any pictures, videos, text at this point. We're already seeing news agencies who can't be bothered to get real photos of events using AI to "recreate" them. Several happened with the Nepal floods and by Indian news agencies. For some people it's a protest to say "I don't believe anything anymore because this tech is being abused". Other people are just that lazy/dumb though.
40
12
u/National_Frame2917 Sep 03 '26
For all we know an AI Is creating these comments claiming everything is AI on its own.

13
u/RevenantBacon Sep 03 '26
So some people have just been claiming everything is AI to kind of call attention to the fact that [...] it's hard to trust any[thing] at this point.
Then those people are just complete morons who are simply making the problem worse.
6
u/theaviationhistorian Sep 03 '26
AI is so ubiquitous that it is now too easy to popularize misinformation. It is so bad that it gets exhausting to check all online to see if it is true. That said, it is important to also check something before stating it is misinformation or AI.
2
u/Mother-Actuator-1490 29d ago
Soo what happens when AI has begun to create enough misinformation online to cover its tracks?
1
u/theaviationhistorian 28d ago
Don't give life a challenge. We already have to deal with enough crap as it is!
2
u/pleasantly-dumb Sep 04 '26
I hear it used far too often for things that happened that are recorded, but people don’t want to believe. The average Floridian is a fucking moron.
3
u/Chicken_Hairs Sep 04 '26
Uh, you don't need to add "Floridian".
The older I get, the more I realize that MOST people aren't too bright.
Where did Floridians enter into this anyway?

I mean, in 90 percent of cases it is. People without skills now have the ability to create photoshop-like bullshit everywhere.
7
u/wallyhartshorn Sep 04 '26
How do you know that “in 90 percent of cases it is.” I see lots of accusations, but very rarely is any evidence presented.

This is an awful El Niño year, all the way in Delaware we also had a random 80 mph wind storm two days ago completely unrelated to any of the tropical storms and completely out of nowhere
Did you guys get warnings or did it just hit?
28
u/justbrowzing17 Sep 03 '26
Still picking up the sticks from that fun and they say more this weekend. Wish I had a damn fireplace.
24
u/obiwanjabroni420 Sep 03 '26
We had an actual honest to god tornado come through our small river valley in VT this summer. It looked like some entire hillsides (that were fully wooded) had all the trees just wiped off. It was very weird.
12
u/marksk88 Sep 03 '26
Yes, lots of warnings in Toronto yesterday for severe thunderstorms, hail and tornado watch.
9
u/nnamed_username Sep 03 '26
We got hit with it too. Just a strangely calm day then WHOOSH full-grown trees bowing to the ground. It tapered off over the following hour, like it was some blast wave or something: sudden onset, then gradual resolution back to calm.

El Niño hasn’t even gotten to its good point yet. That’ll happen December January.
6
u/purdueAces Sep 03 '26
It took NIPSCO more than 2 weeks to get power back in NW Indiana after the tornados and derecho last month. More than 3 times the number of tornados this year than Indiana has ever seen.
5
5
u/bagolaburgernesss Sep 03 '26
We got warnings. There were 2. One just before the shit hit the fan, or rather the wild winds and crazy baseball sized hail, and one afterwards. There were still areas having bad thunderstorms. It was crazy!
4
u/pishboy Sep 04 '26
The index is currently at +2.7°C. Models seem to suggest it peaking at ~+3.2-3.5°C by november-january, much stronger than the 2015-2016 el niño event
3
u/AttackerCat Sep 04 '26
Same in Ohio. 89mph straight line winds. My hometown was hit hard. Tree fell on my mom’s house (her and the cats are fine).
Some of her neighbors had roofs torn off and worse tree damage.
2
u/Mondschatten78 Sep 04 '26
Welp, that might explain why a package I was expecting was delayed. I wondered how it could leave the place one day, then leave the same place again two days later.
2
u/Sheeeeepyy Sep 08 '26
Not to mention Dover’s little excitement of two tornado’s a couple weeks ago. I knew that day was gonna be bad but not tornado bad lol.

I was working getting the trucks out of there after that, a total nightmare! One of my trailers was holding up the grandstands..

u/retronax Sep 04 '26
For some reason my brain just cannot compute that the wall isn't 2 meters tall and these aren't a bunch of miniature seats. The image just looks so weird, there's something almost liminal about it

u/KillaVNilla Sep 07 '26
It took me reading your comment to realize this wasn't a large Lego build that got damaged. To be fair, i did just wake up

u/The_Last_Ron1n Sep 03 '26
I sat in that same section for Queens of the Stone age and Foo Fighters last month, it felt strong-ish, guess it wasn't.

He thinks mods will apologize or ever admit to being wrong about anything. 😂😂😂

We installed fabric to cover the scaffold. Hard sound absorbing boards were installed after. The wind pushed the structure. Panels did not have blow through holes. Result is giant sail

I was gonna diss the mods but them claiming that’s AI did it for me 🤣🤣🤣
3
u/Bigcatsam Sep 03 '26
Wtf? Did Manny Ramirez’ homer just land?
3
u/bryberg Sep 03 '26
Not the baseball stadium, that’s Rogers Centre. This is Rogers stadium, a purpose built music venue.
7
u/John_Tacos Sep 04 '26
How was that built that it could even move that way?
-11
u/Gin_OClock Sep 04 '26
Climate change is a real hog
10
u/John_Tacos Sep 04 '26
I’m asking about the construction of the structure.
I’m from Oklahoma I know what these storms can do. But everything I have seen would have torn that apart before moving it that way.
6
u/befooks Sep 04 '26
It wasnt built to be a permanent structure, just a temp structure for concerts and they had plans to remove it by 2030 for other development

u/Gin_OClock Sep 04 '26

7
u/OttawaOsprey Sep 04 '26
Not a tornado but still very high winds, yes. Portions of the area were flooded in the same storm so it was pretty bad.
2
u/lonelyronin1 Sep 05 '26
The storm was crazy. I was in an area the didn’t get it a severe, but it was still bad

If this happens in the US, this is a sign of a collapsing empire. If it happens elsewhere,🤷♂️.
0
u/DFA_Wildcat Sep 04 '26
Aren't those stand alone bleachers? If there are any more available they should be able to pull them out, clean up the debris, then bring in another set. This is an outdoor venue called Rogers Stadium, not the old Skydome, now called Rogers Center.
1
-26
u/blurrrsky Sep 03 '26
Toronto had storms? And they damaged the stadium? Were any other stadiums damaged? How as AI involved? Was any AI damaged?
-56
u/TheGeneralCat Sep 03 '26
I mean it would be more helpful to post with images from multiple angles. I can immediately see why people would think this is AI at first glance.
7
u/dathar Sep 03 '26
Usually going in giant circles taking pictures in a damaged gets you kicked out. At least any event I've worked in as part of building and repairing. If you gotta, take ONE picture and get out of a dangerous area.
1
u/TheGeneralCat Sep 03 '26
That’s totally fair. It’s more so that there’s a bunch of photos online of the damage so more content for the sub. I don’t think this is OP’s photo
11
u/GomerStuckInIowa Sep 03 '26
Because the metal is bent and the lighting is wrong and you never read the news?
-13
u/TheGeneralCat Sep 03 '26
I didn’t say it was AI I just said that other angles clearly capture the extent of the damage? I know this is real I’m just saying posting more images prevents people from dismissing it as AI.
11
u/RevenantBacon Sep 03 '26
I can immediately see why people would think this is AI at first glance.
Is it because, like them, you are also a moron?
-14
u/TheGeneralCat Sep 03 '26
Wow, you’re just an asshole. I’m sure you’ve got a 100% foolproof way for spotting AI instantly and have never been fooled. In a world with misinformation posting more pictures prevents people from claiming otherwise.
7
u/RevenantBacon Sep 03 '26
I’m sure you’ve got a 100% foolproof way for spotting AI instantly
Yeah, it's called using my brain. You should try it some time.
