This is it, 6 games left. Rangers have a 1 game lead over the Astros for not just the AL West, but for a playoff spot. The likely matchup in the Wild Card Series will be a Texas team vs. the White Sox somewhere in Texas next week considering that the Guardians have a good hold on the AL Central and the #2 seed. Rangers get 3 home games with the Mets and then fly to Minnesota for 3 games with the Twins. Astros hit the road and play 2 in Seattle and 4 in Sacramento. Depending on how the Astros do this week, 4-2 could get the Rangers the division, 3-3 is pushing it, and 2-4 would kill the Rangers.

Tonight is the Home Run Derby. That's pretty cool, but talk about anything. Share photos, argue about In-n-Out, etc.

We know everyone has their complaints about Globe Life Field, but other than the air conditioning, what are things you like about the new ballpark? Do you love that it looks like the grill your family had from your childhood? Do you wish it had even longer hot dogs?

The Rangers have taken two of three from both the Angels and Braves this week. They're pretty close to a wild card spot and will host the Yankees over the weekend. One series at a time, friends.

The Rangers are 4-4 so far in the month of August, having scored 37 runs and allowing 31. They begin a ten game home stand tomorrow evening against the hated Astros.

No game today. The Rangers are on their way to Queens to play the Mets, and one of those games will have an 11am local start time which is great for everybody, right?

Some of you are fans of the grid iron football. Maybe you want to talk about that. I dreamed last night that I owned an F1 racing team and that was pretty cool. Also I have this streetlight thing in my front yard that comes on when the sun goes down and goes off when the sun comes up, but it didn't come on last night and I'm wondering why that is.

The post is off topic but here are some random Rangers facts:

Among qualifiers, Joey Gallo led the team last week with a 230 wRC+. He batted .400/.571/.667 and had a stolen base. His walk rate was a robust 23.8% and he only struck out 14.3% of the time.

Adrian Beltre was the next most prolific hitter (GODDAMMIT), followed by Shin Soo Choo. Worst was Ronald Guzman who in 20 plate appearances only managed to slash .158/.200/.316.

On the pitching side, Keone Kela pitched in three games and posted an ERA of 11.57, yet his FIP was -0.24. Pretty weird.

Minor and Perez were excellent. Matt Bush and Alex Claudio struggled mightily.

Talk about anything, including the gut punch that was this series in Oakland. Where will the Rangers play the Astros? Only Harvey knows...

Well, the Rangers have completed a 20 game stretch with the final 3 games against the Angels this week the last before the ASB putting them at 41-44.

Notables:

• The bullpen has returned to the 'no defined roles' after continued issues. In an effort to shore this up with a veteran presence, Rangers acquired Jason Grilli who is known as a talker and hopefully boost the confidence of our BP.
• Elvis continues to show that he is worth every penny, and is also now a father, breaking his streak of never leaving the roster since 2009 (No DL, no demotions), taking paternity leave but should return for the series against the Angels.
• Adrian Beltre continues his ascendancy to Cooperstown, he now has 2,975 hits (32nd career), 601 doubles (16th career), 450 home runs (39th career), and 2,648 games played at third base (2nd career).
• 16 of the 20 games lasted more than 3 hours. 12 different relievers were used.

Injury Update:

• Jake Diekman is on track for a July return, currently throwing on flat ground from 110 feet.
• Joey Gallo is Day-to-day with left hamstring soreness
• Chi Chi is a possible late July after a partial UCL tear and is throwing long toss on flat ground.
• A.J. Griffin is scheduled for possible July 26th and is expected to throw a live batting practice tomorrow.
• Keone Kela is on the 10-day for right shoulder soreness and should return after the ASB.
• Rougned Odor is day-to-day with negative x-rays from the ball last night.

I like to explore new places.

The Rangers are gearing up for a tough slog as we host the Mariners for 3 and the Jays for 4 before hitting the tarmac for the East Coast to play the Yankees, Indians, and White Sox. They wrap up the 20 game marathon by coming back to the Temple to face the Red Sox. This 10 here, 10 away set will test our lineup and tax all of our resources.
