Am I the only one that hasn’t seen any of what this guy is talking about?

75

u/Due_Independence9421 J. deGrom Oct 11 '23

"Rangers aren't known for their class." And the Astros are?

66

u/SaulFemm Oct 11 '23

I think our fanbase could be accused of being comatose before it could be accused of being toxic

1

u/knuckles2079 PEAGLE Oct 12 '23

I would say we're overly respectful to apposing teams and fans. I go to a lot if games, and I very rarely see one of our fans acting like assholes. I can't say that for some other teams fans in our park. A Mets fan had to be escorted out once in the old park.

Nailed it, the Astro comment was fucking hilarious since their fan base exemplifies class. They are ranked just behind the Yankees in shitty fan bases. Numbers don't lie

31

u/bastarj Oct 11 '23

To be fair, 133 WAS going hard with the Overrated chants towards Gunnar, but honestly isn't he? We had to listen to 3 games of John Smoltz proclaiming very matter of factly that he would be the ROTY while forgetting Jung even exists.

13

u/ImTheJdot C. Seager Oct 12 '23

If you're that butthurt about "overrated" chants, you're just a soft fan.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23

100%, heckling happens absolutely everywhere and if that’s about as mild as it comes. These players have probably been hearing that their whole life from players and fans trying to get under their skin. Until it gets personal with something like family, race, or ethnicity it’s just part of being at a ballpark and it’s all in good fun.

7

u/RedditOnANapkin Oct 11 '23

Good gosh Smoltz was insufferable all series. He couldn't get off the O's jock.

5

u/PsyNo420 C. Seager Oct 11 '23

Didn’t he gunned down just in time by Heim? Fair assessment

26

u/Blue_prizm77 Oct 11 '23

Living in Houston, I can confirm this. They trash globe life by saying it looks like a Costco, while completely ignoring that Minute Maid is surrounded by skid row. They talk shit just to talk shit, even though they have the biggest bandwagon fan base in the mlb

11

u/gwaydms N. Ryan Oct 11 '23

Minute Maid is surrounded by skid row.

Boy is that accurate. Sketchy area that is.

6

u/PsyNo420 C. Seager Oct 11 '23

Dude it smells like sewer, the fans don’t know how to talk trash so they go straight to the fists. Security sides with the orange shirts. Shits messed up we need home field

3

u/gwaydms N. Ryan Oct 11 '23

When we went the fans around us were chill. (They were winning.) We also had a large group.

3

u/PsyNo420 C. Seager Oct 14 '23

Oh I was three rows back from the Rangers dig out. But most of their fans were pretty much drunk/harmless every fly ball they thought was a homer etc. just one incident some Ranger bros behind us said the trash can word and some dude in his 60s trashed out of his mind started yelling at them jumping over rows trying to get a cheap one in and security issued a warning to the Ranger bros to stop taunting instead of following the law and escorting said person out of the stadium for public intoxication and violence.

Ranger bros bought them a round of beers and apologized, and I was thinking how much I love our fan base if you were to remove any biases.

Meet some cool Astro fans where we were able to do some fun amicable shit talking to each other. We’re all human I’m sure there are awful fans on every team in every sport I don’t like putting everyone in a box.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23

Last time I went to minute maid was for game od thrones night and on way out almost got mugged. It's extremely dangerous. Although rangers ball park is uninspiring its safe

1

u/gwaydms N. Ryan Oct 12 '23

We've stayed at the Marriott that's easy walking distance to the ballpark and Jerry World. Great way to avoid stadium parking. And there's lots of people walking before and after games, which makes it safer.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '23

I wish I had the funds to pay for a 300$ hotel. I'd love to go to the game but don't think I have the courage to go to a astros game in rangers gear

Probably not.

18

u/JL1v10 Oct 11 '23

Yes and the entire issue was over us not wanting like 17 away games in a row to finish the season in a (at the time) team reasonably within contention. MLB and Rangers were discussing alternatives, MLB was debating Tampa outright, Tampa then offered. Rangers never even really said no. They were just working with MLB. But some reporter in Houston ran an uncorroborated opinion piece on how the Rangers were screwing over the team, and their fanbase has believed that since.

12

u/dickey1331 A. Beltre Oct 11 '23

As a rangers fan who lived in Houston during Harvey the whole thing is dumb and I never understood why it was so controversial. Houston as a city has a hated for Dallas that isn’t reciprocated.

4

u/Glitchhikers_Guide PEAGLE Oct 11 '23

They're jealous that we don't live in a concrete hellscape that is so humid it feels like you're underwater all the time.

-1

u/gwaydms N. Ryan Oct 11 '23

Hurricane Harvey did not hit Houston. It devastated the central coast, which was promptly ignored because of the flooding caused by the remnants of Harvey.

0

u/juwanjo86 J. deGrom Oct 12 '23

Can you not with that?

1

u/gwaydms N. Ryan Oct 12 '23

What did I say that was inaccurate? I'm not minimizing the suffering of the flooding victims; I know people who went through that.

1

u/juwanjo86 J. deGrom Oct 12 '23

I don't think its worth discussing. While you may be right, you are coming off as an asshole. Its like equating the wave to the the ocean. No shit, but the wave still was part of it.

1

u/gwaydms N. Ryan Oct 12 '23

I know. Sorry. I'm just still upset because people just north of us are still waiting for help, most of which went to Southeast Texas. I'm glad they were able to rebuild. But these little communities have fewer resources, and no superstars to raise money for them.

4

4

u/Rangers_Doomer Oct 11 '23

Don’t think I heard those “overrated” chants through Smoltz’s stupid commentary. The thing is, people don’t seem to realize there’s dickhead fans in EVERY fan base. Imagine calling the Astros “daddy” just because your team got swept.

38

Still shocked that this team didn't just win two straight series against 99+ win teams, but swept them with all but one of those games being on the road. They've always had the talent on offense, but for the pitching to be this good and bullpen, sans Burke, to deliver like this? Despite all the injuries to the starters and all the blown saves in the regular season? It's amazing how crazy this sport can be.

16

u/Huckleberry__FN-2187 R. Greer Oct 11 '23

I think you left out Chapman loading the bases last night too lol. But for real, when we've needed it the most we've had guys across the entire organization step up. Amazing to see and why this team is so easy to love.

8

u/Glitchhikers_Guide PEAGLE Oct 11 '23

he did get two strikeouts first which made leclerc's cleanup work a lot easier than if he had sucked for the entirety of his outing

4

u/RedditOnANapkin Oct 11 '23

That's the beauty of October baseball. You have no idea who will rise and go on a run. Philly did it last season and this year it's Texas and Arizona. Bochy has a lot to do with it, he's a master of playoff baseball. He knows what it takes to win this time of year and how to get his players to buy in.

30

u/Diligent_Feedback_75 Oct 11 '23

Anyone else sad we have to wait four whole days for more Rangers’ baseball? 😥

9

u/RedditOnANapkin Oct 11 '23

Yes, but the boys could use the rest. It allows us to hopefully get Max and Gray back as well. I don't think it'll negatively affected them like it has other teams. Bochy's dealt with this before, he'll have them ready.

1

u/BulldogWasMyCoach Oct 12 '23

Gray would be nice in relief, but I really want scherzer back.

If they make the WS, they honestly might be the 2nd best over the 2010 club

9

I remember being sort of happy for the Astros when they won the world series because they’re from Texas and it felt like a neighborly thing to do. They were obnoxious sure, but everyone has that one obnoxious kid in their family.

But then they started running ads taunting us about how they were the first TX team to win a WS. And then we found out they were cheating. And then and then and then. And now good grief, they’re the toxic cousin you wish you could go no contact with but Grandma won’t let you because it’d ruin Christmas.

Tortured analogy? Sure. But it makes sense in my head.

Ticket prices are insane... I know we haven't had post-season ball here in the metroplex in years, but dang!

I feel for families who want to take them to the ballpark. The cheapest seat is $100, and if you want to have a chance to catch a homer or foul ball, you are looking $250 on up for face value tickets. I suspect WS tickets will be double or even triple that for face value. Imagine spending $700 for a couple and a kid to attend a baseball game. Plus $50 parking. America's past time will soon be America's past due when the bills come in if you attend a game, lol.

8

u/MordredKLB A. Beltre Oct 11 '23

Just FTR, when I bought day-of tickets for the Derek Holland game in the 2011 WS (about 2 hours before first pitch) they were $400 a seat for third deck. That was down from $600 they'd been sitting at for several days before.

3

u/The-Snuff Oct 11 '23

Hell I got amazing tickets in section 3 (bottom level near 3rd) last night for $120 that I bought 30 min before game time. Nosebleeds were going for $100. It is stressful? Fuck yeah. Worth it though.

6

u/ShouldBeWorkingButNa Pudge #7 Oct 11 '23

It feels like they are alienating fans that have been going to games all year, in favor of bandwagoners who can pay more. I went to over 20 games this year at $30ish a seat. Now they want 6x more for the same seats in the same section. I went last night, and have no regrets, but I'm not sure I'll make it to a CS game at these prices.

My season ticket holder buddy told me they asked him to put down 7k to reserve his seats for the DS, CS, and WS, all or nothing style. Its kinda Heartbreaking. I just want real fans to be able to get in and cheer for this team that we have supported through a rough few years. Thanks for the insight.

How do I post a video on here? Every time I try, it just says "thanks for your submission" but it never actually posts.

I just wanna say thank you to the Rangers for pulling off the sweep and letting me shift my sports excitement to the Stars home opener tomorrow

ALCS Rotation hopes & predictions?

Scherzer and Gray come back to Start as a tandem would be nice. 4 out of 7 games will be Monty and Eovoldi. Heandawg has put up some decent starts against Houston this year so I wouldn't hate seeing him on the bump for one or two of them, with Dunning or Bradford in relief.

Houston is bringing only one LHP on their roster (Framber who has been shelled by TEX). With how much Lowe and Carter struggle against left-handers, seeing only righties is a HUGE advantage.

By chance anyone in here have colored bowman autos they're trying to sell of Carter? Or trade?

u/maverick80008 Oct 12 '23

Max Scherzer vs Justin Verlander in the ALCS would be cool to see

I was watching Boch's presser today and noticed his shirt. Anyone know where you can buy this? I can't find it on the Rangers online shop.

I honestly think we should consider just IBB Yordong as much as possible if the game script allows it. He's insane and has been killing everyone lately
