Only been drawing and painting for about a year and a half give or take pretty happy with where I have come in that time. Not sure if I'll ever have the opportunity to apprentice or anything with where I am at in life but it is fun to dream and paint anyways.
Looking for c and c on anything.
I think my biggest weaknesses right now are; impatience between steps, uncertainty where to place blacks, picking the right colors (specifically green and blues always end up way to dark), subject matters (I like what I like which I think causes repetitiveness on my side), scale, and sheet composition.
Especially looking for suggestions on how to take better pictures of my flash. Cause by God I have no understanding of lighting and framing for pics.

I know I know, I draw too many angels. I know the bottom text is fucked, and in all honestly this piece is a tad bit small so if it were tattooed, the tattoos on the cherub’s arms would not be doable or last long. So I do need to make the piece bigger, OR remove the tattoos on its arms altogether but it looks sort of naked without it. Basically I’m asking for tips on shading, I had some references but I drew my own pose and my own face.

I haven’t posted here in a while but I recently got an apprenticeship a few months ago and wanted to share my most recent skin.
The prompt given by my mentor was “Dark horror mixed with feminine florals” in the spirit of Halloween, so I took the Huntress’ mask from dead by daylight and combined it with some Russian chamomile - Definitely my biggest challenge yet and there’s a lot of areas which need work but I’m so happyyy

I’ve been curious about getting into tattooing for the last couple years, but I don’t know where to start. What is wanted in a portfolio? As a tattoo artist how did you get into the industry? I know states have different laws, but would school in portland be worth it? Any guidance would be amazing! ☺️

Hey everyone! I've been focusing on hand-drawn vector designs with detailed cross-hatching
Aiming for clean, stencil-ready linework. Would really appreciate any feedback, critiques, or thoughts on these pieces! 🍻

I’ve been studying different flash from “From the Great Walls of China Sea”. I’m basically starting from zero as an adult with no artistic skills and this is my first sketch that I’ve done that I’ve felt very good about other than flowers and hearts. My shading work still looks a bit odd so I don’t feel confident posting the full finished flash yet.
Any feedback, tips or advice for a beginner artist interested in American traditional would be greatly appreciated!

Im just confused and seeking some insight. back in May i got an apprenticeship. Its paid, im not doing any shop “work” aside from drawing, he got me my own chair and i have my own room/workspace. For the first few initial months i was just drawing lettering back to back. he said it was to build up muscle memory, get better at linework, and to start a new portfolio. well now its switched to him roleplaying as a client and me drawing designs, again and again to add to this portfolio. hes mentioned i need to get better at the speed in which i produce a piece of work/ ask questions. I’ve probably done this 10 times now, with him requesting changes in between. I believe the speeds increased but im also not in the shop constantly because of a split schedule. His morals are good, am I just going ridiculously slow? it alternates from me being in there 5 days a week to 2 days each following week. I trust him its not a lack of that, im just broke and being heavily stressed from outside friends and family. Thank you

This was one of my best years with my studio in Brazil. I finally got great clients and a brand people start to recognize locally... so.. books are closed for the rest of the year, but I don't want to miss clients that are interested. I am looking for recommendation on how you guys deal with this. I am creating a page on followfyi.com since a friend recommended it and it's free. How do you guys with more experience handle this? like.. a "waitlist" for when you open again?

I’m trying to make a portfolio for a tattoo apprenticeship and just started using acrylic ink for the first time. It’s a medium I’ve never used and I can’t get the hang of it!! Am I using too much ink or water? Any tips or tricks for consistency?

I usually exclusively share my finished flash paintings on here. Sharing some of the stuff I do on my work breaks. I work a full time job, but it’s so important to use as much time as you can to draw and get better. All of you inspire me! Draw something today! Instagram is chasedrawz if you would like to see more! ❤️

Are a lot of people still taking in portfolio to shops for an apprenticeship? And if so what was the ratio of “no”s before landing one?

Been looking forward to making Halloween flash for my whole apprenticeship. Just finished this one yesterday! To varnish or not to varnish? Also any tips on tea staining would be greatly appreciated because mine is rough to say the least 😬
