வரலாறு / History I made a browser game about the history of Madras/Chennai, 1640 to 2026

This is a one-button game that follows Chennai through 386 years: a masula surf boat, then trams, buses and the metro. You catch 30 records from the city's history, like the 1914 Emden shelling, the Anna Flyover in 1973, and the day Madras State became Tamil Nadu on 14 January 1969.

It's about one city, not the whole state, but I thought people here might enjoy it.

To be upfront: the history research and design are mine. The art, music and sound were made with AI tools, which I directed and checked against dated sources. The code was written with an AI coding assistant.

It's a v1, built as a weekend hobby. The same site has a kolam film of Chennai and an early 3D rebuild of Madras around 1700.

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant [Chennai] Rant on Stray Dogs and their Menace

It makes for a paranoid and nerve-wracking experience to take early morning walks or even walking in general, for that matter,

How sometimes, stray dogs suddenly get agitated and start chasing or pouncing on us, especially post-pandemic, they've gotten out of control,

Twice in a span of 2-3 months (and even prior, occasionally), I underwent this experience, what's worse is that this is a route I've been taking for years, and suddenly, sometimes some of these dogs get agitated,

I get the conventional wisdom, I truly do - don't freak out or panic and stay still or calm and don't flinch and run away as that enables their aggressive and predatorial instincts further,

Except it's easier said than done, and honestly, it's not like they're exactly predictable anyway,

Today morning, I was doing an early morning (5:30 or so) walk to the local mosque, there's a corporation and waste management office not far off, the sanitation personnel usually report for duty during this time of the day or they have a break and be having some morning tea,

This also means they befriend the local dogs around that area, and these dogs seem to be attached to them,

As I was walking, one of the dogs started aggressively approaching me, I initially raised my voice and shushed it, but it kept coming at me, that made me flinch and run back a few metres,

The officials there tried to tame/control it, then said "onnum panadhunga pa/sir, bayapudaadenga, neega bayndu odna dhaan thoondiuvidreenga adha",

I kinda snapped and lashed out, as this wasn't the first time these dogs behaved aggressively with me here. Told them rudely (not proud of my behavior) if they'll bear rabies vaccine or any hospital expenses or take care of me if a dog does manage to bite or get close enough to me,

They seemed a bit hurt and upset. Honestly, it wasn't my intent, these folks are hard-workers and toil relentlessly, but I was at a "heightened" emotional state so to speak (I did apologize to one of them, once I calmed down),

Anyways, I am making this rant here, as it's this "normalization", the "chalta hai/poitu podhu" attitude our folks seem to have reg. civic issues and grievances.

We can't realistically expect people to act super rational and level-headed when a dog does get aggressive with them - already they'll be having a lot in their mind and will be trying to get by,

I honestly wish the government takes some initiative to curb stray dog menace in our city (and India overall, really). Last year, around this time or so, there were heated debates and controversies after some stray mauled a kid? Post-pandemic, this menace and their population has gotten out of control.

Hey all , In recent times the Omni Bus Prices are Skyrocketing . I find prices around easily 2000 for a sleeper seat . How do you all tackle it ? I know train options , but everything are full . Is there anyway like phone booking of bus tickets will give ticket in less price ?

I can understand this is the time omni bus owners make profit , but I feel some ceiling must be there among the association themselves . Please share your ideas and thoughts on this .

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant 29M — I feel like a refugee in my own hometown, and I'm tired of feeling this

I'm 29, autistic, and living independently in Chennai, my own hometown. And honestly, I'm tired. I'm tired of feeling lonely, worrying about my future, struggling with anxiety, and trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do with my life.

The worst part is that I'm living in my own hometown, yet I don't feel like I belong here. This is supposed to be my home, a place where I should feel comfortable and settled. Instead, sometimes I feel like a refugee in my own city, just existing here without a real sense of belonging, security, or emotional support. I go about my everyday life, fulfil my responsibilities, and try to carry on, but inside, I feel stuck and exhausted.

My personal life is still unresolved. I want companionship, meaningful relationships, and someone I can talk to without feeling misunderstood. I want to feel that I matter to someone and that I have people I can rely on. But loneliness has become a constant part of my life, and it hurts when I think about how much I want these things and how far away they sometimes feel.

Then there's my job situation. I'm a contractual employee, and I don't have the security of knowing what my future holds. I keep worrying about my employment, what happens if I lose my job, and how I'm supposed to manage financially. How am I supposed to build a stable life when even my livelihood feels uncertain? I want to move forward, but I feel like I'm constantly waiting for something to go wrong.

And being autistic makes many of these experiences harder to navigate. Social interactions can be exhausting. I overthink conversations, worry about how people perceive me, and sometimes struggle to explain what I'm feeling. Being misunderstood is painful, especially when I'm already trying so hard to manage my anxiety and fit into environments that don't always understand neurodivergence. I don't want every interaction to feel like something I have to analyse afterwards.

What frustrates me is that all these problems are happening together. It's not just my job, or my personal life, or loneliness. It's everything piling up at once. I have to think about earning a living, managing everyday responsibilities, trying to build relationships, dealing with anxiety, and navigating life as an autistic person. Sometimes I genuinely feel exhausted by the effort it takes just to keep everything going.

And this is my hometown. I'm not somewhere completely unfamiliar, trying to adjust to a new city. I am in the place I call home, yet I still feel like I have nowhere that truly feels like home emotionally. I can live here, work here, and go about my routine here, but that doesn't automatically mean I feel connected to the place or the people around me.

I'm frustrated that at 29, I'm still struggling with so many things that I wish were more settled by now. I want stability. I want companionship. I want to feel accepted as an autistic person. I want to stop worrying so much about my future and feel that my life is actually going somewhere.

I'm not writing this to ask anyone to fix my life or give me some generic advice about staying positive. I'm just fed up with carrying all these feelings around while trying to appear as though I'm managing everything.

I don't want to feel like a refugee in my own hometown anymore. I want to feel that I belong somewhere, that my life has some stability, and that I have something to look forward to. Right now, I'm struggling, and I needed to rant about it.

There is no safe limit to alcohol, and even a single drop affects human body.

TASMAC alcohol increases before and after dry days in TN, entire concept of dry days makes no sense.

Most of our kudimagans consume 180 ml brandy bottles prices less than 150 rupees, they make like almost 80% of the buyers.

அரசியல் / Political Concerned about Tamil Nadu’s finances under the new government..

I have been looking at Tamil Nadu’s numbers after the change in government. One thing is clear. Under DMK the debt went up a lot....

From arround 5 lakh crore in 2021 to nearly 10 lakh crore by March 2026. Total liabilities including PSUs crossed 13 lakh crore. That is a fact from the White Paper itself...

At the same time, DMK was bringing big companies. Foxconn announced 15,000 crore investment and 14,000 engineering jobs under them.

They were trying to grow the econmy so that more tax money comes in later..

Now under TVK I mainly see short-term schemes. 4,000 rupees for unemployed graduates, free laptops, incentives for companies that hire 75 percent local people. These may help people immediately....

But I am not seeing any cleaar long-term plan yet. No big new investment push, no strong focus on new industries or infrastructure that will create jobs for the next 10 years.

The new government is also more friendly with the Centre. That is good for getting funds. But friendly relations alone will not fix the debt problem.

My worry is simple. If we only give cash and freebies without growing the economy, the debt will keep rising and future generations will pay more interest.

DMK had problems, but at least they were trying to attract factories.

கலாச்சாரம் / Culture 1 day in Thanjavur — need help with itinerary, food & transport!

Vanakkam guys! Planning to visit Thanjavur & need some suggestions.

I'll reach Trichy Jn on Sun nit around 11:50 PM & am thinking of resting at the station's AC lounge bfr heading to Brihadeeswara Temple for darshan around 6 AM on Mon.

I have the whole day bfr my return train from Trichy on Mon nit. I’d love to include Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram as well and come back to see Brihadeeswara Temple illuminated in the evng.

A few doubts:

- Any good bfst and lunch spots in Thanjavur?

- What other places are worth visiting in b/w?

- Is it realistic to cover Airavatesvara Temple and return to Thanjavur for the evng lights?

- Should I book a cab for the entire day, or will Uber/Rapido/autos work out fine?

Also, any tips for managing the late-night arrival and getting some rest at Trichy station would be helpful!

Thanks! :)

முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Can someone verify how much stamp duty I need to pay for an overseas SPA in Delhi for TN agri land?

Hello, I received a SPA from overseas without any sale rights just management of various non-sale related admin tasks like patta transfer, mutation, tax payment, survey etc. from my sibling abroad and am looking to get it registered, but I'm currently residing in Delhi and won't be able to make it within the 90 day window it takes to register this document in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. My understanding is I can get this done while in Delhi or use an online platform, but I'm unsure how much stamp duty should I be paying for this. Can anyone please advise? It has no sale rights but covers multiple admin things.

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant 29M — After my trips ended, loneliness, anxiety, and job insecurity are hitting me hard

I'm 29, autistic, and living independently in Chennai. I recently went on a few trips, and while I was traveling, I felt some relief from my usual routine and the things weighing on my mind. But now that the trips are over, reality is hitting me hard, and I honestly don't feel like coming back to my everyday life.

My loneliness and anxiety are becoming difficult to handle. Returning to the same routine means facing the same workplace stress, social difficulties, and feelings of being misunderstood. On top of that, I'm dealing with job insecurity as a contractual employee. Not knowing how secure my employment is or what my future holds makes it difficult to feel settled. I worry about what will happen if I lose my job, how I'll manage financially, and what my next step will be.

Being neurodivergent affects how I experience all of this. Anxiety makes it even harder to process these situations, while uncertainty about my job adds another layer of worry. When I'm already dealing with loneliness, it can feel like I have very little emotional support to fall back on.

I can go on trips, visit places, and enjoy myself, but when I return, the underlying feelings don't simply disappear. Sometimes the contrast makes everyday life feel even harder to face. Traveling gives me a temporary break, but it doesn't change the workplace stress, uncertainty about my employment, or loneliness waiting for me when I return.

I'm not saying that traveling was pointless. Those moments genuinely mattered to me. I just wish my everyday life could offer some of that same peace, connection, and freedom, without constantly worrying about my future.

I'm sharing this because I need to express how I'm feeling. Sometimes being autistic, anxious, and lonely while also worrying about job security feels exhausting. I keep trying to manage my responsibilities and carry on, but internally, I'm struggling more than people might realize.

அரசியல் / Political ADMK/DMK really ruined the political landscape by not encouraging Tamil youth to participate in politics.

As a state, we've had so many political movements stemming from the grassroots and student unions. However, around the 70s, MGR threatened by student unions banned campus elections since he suspected they favoured the DMK. Ironically, the DMK wasn't any better. Often times, they cracked down on student leaders that were too critical and always wanted some sort of "yes man".

It's insane to me because the foundation of the Dravidian movement was built on student activism. The Anti-Hindi agitations had students on the frontlines. P. Seenivasan, a 25 year old, defeated CM Kamaraj in the elections.

The fact that we don't have a concept of Pre-University (PUCs) also hindered political thought with the introduction of +1 +2 standards into the school structure. Schools in Tamil Nadu are infamous for repression and lack of diverse thought.

DMK's youth wing was run by Stalin back in 2016, he was fucking 63 years old.

When the young generation has always been told to stay away from politics, ban formal campus politics, the energy of the youth goes into fan club culture. TVK simply translated that exact culture into political currency.

Today we face a government that holds zero accountability and transparency. DMK/ADMK used student politics to gain power and systematically destroyed it, in turn destroying themselves. When all these veteran politicians become too old and irrelevant, who replaces them? The generation that was never asked to govern?

Encourage our kids to study our political history. From Kamaraj to the Emergency. From the Eelam war to 2015.

TVK was bound to happen. Let's make sure it doesn't again.

முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Avadi Mudhalvar Padaippagam Booking Doubt

Hey everyone!

I'm planning to use the Mudhalvar Padaippagam in Avadi, near Thirumullaivoyal.I checked the Mudhalvar Padaippagam booking website, but I couldn't find Avadi listed as an option. I have a few questions:

Is the Avadi Mudhalvar Padaippagam currently open and operational?

Can we visit in person and get a study seat, or is online booking compulsory?

Is there a separate website or registration process for the Avadi centre?

If anyone has visited recently, could you share the timings and any fees?

I'd appreciate it if someone who has visited the Avadi branch could share their experience. Thanks!
