Seeking a gentleman who wanted a felt bowl

Post image
4 Upvotes

Here's hoping the wonderful Internet can help - the Kennet Valley Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers have been demonstrating their skills at the Richard Jefferies Museum, most recently at Apple Day. Some felt bowls have been made, based on a request from a member of the public over the summer - he needed the openings to be larger.

Can the Internet help find said gentleman?

2 bed in Ferndale/Gorse hill ready for a quick sale

Throw away account as giving my home address!

Our buyers just pulled out of our sale as we were about to exchange. Posting here on the off chance someone is after a quick purchase!

2 bed bordering gorse hill and ferndale. House was renovated when I moved in 9 years ago including new boiler, all new piping and radiators, new windows and a total re-wire and new fuse box. Tidy little house which has done me well, but we’re now relocating out of Swindon.

Full particulars At the link above.

All searches have been done and can be requested by the new solicitor from the old one. Our chain can be picked up (two other people involved) and ready to move quickly if there is someone who is looking to purchase asap. Perhaps a mortgage offer coming to an end?

Any way if interested send me a DM or contact the estate agent on 01793 540449

Secluded public spot to practice violin

I'm learning the violin but I live with flatmates some of which work nights & I don't want to subject them to the equivalent of nails on a chalkboard.

I'm also very new to the area so I'm not sure where would be appropriate but Is there a secluded bench perhaps where I might be able to get away with practising a few hours a day without bothering anyone?

Preferably close to either the city center or old town

This jewel of a film is screening at Create Studios in Swindon, this Thursday

Since a lot of you seem to be interested in the Sofa Screenings I thought it would be a great idea to tell you about this film. If you love food, great storytelling, Anthony Bourdain or just fantastic cinema ... buy a ticket and help this place survive. I'll be going with some friends and I wouldn't mind if after the film we could coagulate into a group, go out and have some food and drinks in the loving memory of Tony. I'm an ex-chef and journalist so this thing lands very close to me. Anyways ... I hope to see at least some of you there. I'll be the guy with the weirdest jacket in there. Feel free to say hi.

Looking into moving to Tadpole

Moved to Swindon a year ago and I’ve been looking into buying a house in Tadpole Gardens now. Heard some negative stuff in the past due to unfinished development, but now it seems pretty much done and every time I go there see loads of families with kids around, and a nice neighbourhood (despite the weird looking roads)

Does anyone who’s actually living in the area can share what’s like there? I see some nice and beautiful houses for sale that are on the market for quite some time now, is there some issue known by the community around there?

Drums and dancing during Apple Day at the Richard Jefferies Museum

What a day it was at the Richard Jefferies Museum yesterday! The weather was lovely, the apples were crushed, the Bang to Rites drummers clearly made friends of the museum Tony (dancer) and Roy (photographer) very happy...

Our next open day is 6th December, when we celebrate our trees. Did you know that the mulberry tree (which is to the right of this video), has been around longer than Richard Jefferies (he's 148 years young this November)?

We'll be opening our doors to musicians, poets, and lovers of nature (they are not mutually exclusive) from 1-3pm, for our very first Tree Day Open Mic. Let us know if you're interested in performing!

Best areas in Swindon for a family with young children?

Hi everyone!
Our family will be moving to Swindon due to a job offer there, and we’re looking for recommendations on the best areas to live.
We have two young children, aged 3 and 5, so safety and being close to good schools are our main priorities.
Which areas would you recommend for a family with young children? We’d love somewhere family-friendly, with good primary schools, parks and local amenities.
Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Anywhere to practice spanish?

I have recently come back from teaching in Spain and wanted to know if there was anywhere I could continue improving my Spanish. I have struggled to find anything in Swindon other than tutors charging £35 an hour. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated or if anyone is looking to practice that would be cool also!

For reference I am probably around an A2 speaker but read and listen at B1 level.

I think I've just found my favourite place in this town

I've lived here for the last two years. I'm not a big fan of night clubs, pubs or kebab shops. Honestly, I'm more of an artsy-fartsy guy, even if I don't really look the role. Tonight I've found this jewel of a place, called Create Studios that is screening art cinema every Thursday and Saturday. Boom! Instant love! My work schedule doesn't allow me any Saturday visits, but you can bet your ass I'll be there every Thursday from now on. Next time they're screening Tony - a Anthony Bourdain biopic - that I highly recommend. Don't miss it! And for f's sake, help keep this place alive!

What did the Swindonian accent sound like?

Being born and growing up in Swindon, I had no idea what the typical Swindon accent is like.

I believe this was mainly spoken by the working class White Brits who lived on Manchester Road before it became a multicultural area from the early 2000s so I don't think this accent is there anymore. Most likely, anyone born in Swindon today will have an MLE one (like Brasian).

So what did it sound like?

Apple day at the Richard Jefferies Museum, live music, performance drummers

Post image
3 Upvotes

This Sunday, 1-5pm at the Richard Jefferies Museum, Marlborough Road - we have Colin Hatch and his heritage engineers crushing apples the old-fashioned way!

The Bang to Rites performance drummers will be there as well, doing some drumming before Mudhoney Blues Band take the stage, with high energy, blues-tinged rock and roll covers.

We'd love it if you supported our small museum by purchasing from our cafe - prices start from only 50p! Cash and cards accepted.

Parking is available at Coate Water, but if you are lucky you'll be able to get some free parking along the marked bays on Day House Lane. The vintage machinery will be set up in the museum car park.

Considering Swindon is a commuter town of Greater London, could it be financially possible for TFL suburban services to reach our town?

I believe such commuter services can be less costly with rail as opposed to intercity services.

If the Elizabeth Line can expand beyond Reading, calling at all 5 stations between Reading and Swindon (via Tilehurst, Pangbourne, Goring, and Cholsey)

Or if any other TFL brand can serve us.

What do you think?

Adult only gyms ?

As the title suggests are there any gyms in the Swindon/ surrounding area which are adult only. Tired of finishing work and going to gyms which are swarmed with teenagers. Have already tried David Lloyd , PureGym Stratton , Nuffield health , pure gym mannington , JD gym and the gym group greenbridge. Any other alternatives would be very welcome

Halloween Photos

Hey all! Just wondering if anyone would like some portraits taken. I’ve been thinking of Halloween/Witchy themed captures, possibly at Coate Water or in other local parks.

I’m guessing this might be too niche but I can also do just regular portraits 😁 I’m trying to rebuild my side hustle, I’ve done engagement photos, weddings, maternity photos and etc before.

I’m offering free 1 hour sessions, hopefully you can help me get back out there 🥹

If you DM me I can send some sample photos 📸
Thank you 😁

Looking for good mechanic in Swindon area

Hi all! My partner and I are on a van tour of Europe. Regular servicing of the car (oil change etc) is about due and we figure we'll be around Swindon in around a week's time. Does anyone have a good decently priced mechanic to recommend?

Where to rent walking distance to train station?

My partner has been offered a job in Swindon so we are looking to move. We want to be near the train station, particularly if I end up getting a job that requires a daily commute out of town. We have viewed a couple terraced houses and walked around town and were really unhappy with what we saw, it has really knocked our confidence (got yelled at from cars while we were walking along the pavement twice within half an hour--probably not common but wtf?).

Where would you recommend for somewhere nice and near the station? The answers in previous threads I have read through seem to suggest the nice parts are further away.

Update: Ghost Returned Home

For those that wanted an update to my prior plea of help to return a lost ghost to my youngling: The ghost finished the journey home.
The youngling was in the dark, as the mission was kept under wraps in case of failure.
Therefore, they were quite surprised, and extremely happy upon reuniting with the lost ghost.
I wish everyone a lovely Spooky Season. Thank you all again for your kindness, generosity, and willingness to help a stranger.
Also, please enjoy the cat tax photos. The fluffy cat is called Starfire, and her brother is called Cyborg.

Wired Inn Swindon

Really random question, but does anyone know who owns the building that used to house the old Laser Quest and Wired Inn internet cafe. I am looking to enquire if they will let me acquire the wired inn sign that is still above the door to the building.

If anyone isnt sure what building im talking about, its the one thats near Sir Dans and Ambience dental practice. Spent a lot of time there as a kid and a friend of mine recently mentioned about how cool that sign would look on a wall in his house. I have searched and the company Wiredinn.co.uk is no longer a thing so unsure who to speak with.
