help wanted Trying to install from USB onto my PC's SSD

I've followed the instructions to install Steam OS onto a PC, but all it does is run from the usb pen drive rather than install onto the SSD.

Any ideas appreciated because I'm stumped.

I literally just stick the pen drive in and turn on the pc. It loads Steam OS, but it's running directly off the pen drive. There's never anything that pops up and says "what drive would you like to install the OS on?"

I've disabled secure boot in the bios, and I can see the ssd in steam os and in the boot menu.

I expected some kind of option menu or something. This is my first time with anything Linux based.

Is loads to desktop. I'll get a photo tomorrow - I'm away today.

It's an i5 with 32gb ram. Using the on board graphics at the moment. The SSD is 500gb

I tried the "wipe and new install" option, but nothing happens.

Thanks for your patience, I'm normally on the other side of this conversation with windows.

Edit: going to get a second-hand gpu once everything else is sorted. Will definitely get AMD.

Spell what out? Like I said before, I've been away and will get back this evening - then I can give more detailed spec info.

What kind of SSD? SteamOS only supports NVME drives.

You can edit a file to allow ssds. I did that but it hasn't made a difference.
